How much protein?
ad
I'm just wondering how much protein. I'm hitting 260lbs and changing to low carbs. and high protein. I have forgotten how much protein per pound of weight to gain more muscle.

I'm going to disagree with some of the comments here about avoiding supplements, but only slightly.
I've found them to be useful in meeting my macros but it's a VERY expensive way to try and push 200+ grams of protein into your system. Chicken/Turkey/Tuna in bulk are far cheaper and actually fill you up. In addition if you are lactose intolerant, you can avoid the gas and shittiness that comes with constantly guzzling milk products. Isolate is an option but its prohibitively expensive.
As for the amount, 1-1.5gram per pound of lean bodyweight.
try hitting a gram per lb of bodyweight minimum. in a caloric excess, protein requirements actually go down. as a matter of fact, kai greene's trainer, george farrah, advocates 1g/lb during bulk, 1.5g/lb during cut.
At least 200 grams to 250 grams of the protein are required for the muscles recovery and weight management. Focus on natural protein rather than processed protein and protein supplements.

As much as you can absorb and utilize. Not exactly the same thing as how much you can eat. Make sure you take in probiotics and digestive enzymes to help your body as much as you can.
Make sure you take in a decent digestive enzyme and/or probiotic so that it will help you utilize the food you do eat to the best degree you can. No sense in eating a lot if you are not going to be able to have your body absorb it most effectively.
It is enough to eat 250 grams of the protein in routine diet to gain your muscles and also to gain muscular weight. Eat natural protein foods rather than protein supplements or protein powders to get more benefits from your protein serving.

Normally I would say for your weight 300 -320 but since you mention low carbs I would go as high as 350. I think the 2 x body weight approach should only apply to hard gainers, people who struggle to gain weight but in your case I would not go past 1.5 times body weight.
1gram per lb of body weight to maintain
1.5-2+ to bulk!
this applies more to people close to 200lbs i think.
The OP is 260lbs. Now unless hes 260 and like 10-15% BF, suggesting 500 grams of protein is probably not the best idea. That's a hell of a lot of stress on the liver and kidneys.
I think at 260 lbs you should be focused less on gaining mass and more on losing fat. I just don't think 500g protein per day is healthy
BigBmajI agree. People tend to recommend crazy amounts of protein. I've seen people do great with 1 gram per pound. I think it has more to do with how many carbohydrates you are eating in a day. If you get adequate carbs and fat, protein around 1 to 1.5 is fine. I can't imagine there are many people that would ever need more than 300 grams a day.
1 to 1-1/2 grams per pound.
Thats around 390 grms of protein/day, split in 10 meals at 40grms/protein per meal, not bad i guess....
