1st cycle after 10 years

ad

Afternoon All,

my last cycle was about 10 years ago and I fancy getting back on the wagon.

I'm 47, 5-11", 19st and have been lifting for 30 years. In the past I've always used 500mg Sust & 200mg Deca per week, guessing that's pretty old school now but worked well for me.

Not really interested in bodybuilding, its always been about strength for me but now as I'm beginning to become more aware of my age I want to lose some of my bulk. I know there is a trade off but I want to do this whilst minimising muscle loss and without using anything too harsh i.e. anadrol or tren, watched a pal of mine go a bit loopy on that.

My concern is that I have been prescribed Atenolol @ 25mg/day following a bout of anxiety attacks, I don't want to interfere with what the blocker does.

Diet alone isn't working due to the Atenolol. I'm not looking for anything too drastic, if I could get to 17-1/2st in 12 months I'd be happy. Most weeks I train as follows: Weights 5 days a week, 30 mins light cardio 5 days/week, 90 mins medium cardio 2 days/week.

Can I ask for some advice on what you advise based upon my age, goal and the medication I'm on.
Thanks!

Hello Sir,

First of all PED's speed up recovery and build muscles. PED's are NOT fat burners. PEDs will help to absorb more food but PEDs will not burn fat.

With training and cardio you described you must be overeating and taking in too many calories. All you need 300-500 calorie deficit to start losing weight. Don't even need any hormones Sir.
All in all it's simple - Calories in VS Calories out

Regards

What does your daily diet look like right now? What type of foods are you getting in, what is the macro breakdown of the foods?

At your age as long as your natural hormones aren’t completely tanked you’re gonna hold a lot more size than you think during your cut. 47 year old muscle doesn’t go away overnight. As for approaches I’d start by just increasing cardio as long as your diet is in check.

Thanks BM, had my bloods done recently with everything (Inc Test) in the average range. With the blocker I'm looking at a prolonged 2,000 calorie diet to get anywhere.

If you can't lose weight by dieting, I am not sure what you are expecting the steroids to do. They really aren't that good for burning fat. Losing weight is all diet. You may have to implement more cardio instead. That will do more to burn off fat than taking steroids would.

Thanks Makwa, first time on the forum so probably not explaining myself too well.
I'm prepared to up my cardio and diet, but want to minimise muscle loss as best I can. my concern is that with the blocker my metabolism is very slow so I'm going to have to diet harder than normal to get anywhere.
I'm looking for advice on a cycle that will aid muscle retention while allowing me to cut the blubber, holy grail I know but some guidance would be welcome.

What is your BF% at now?

Bigbelly's picture

I'd have to say in the 20-25% range, I don't really have an accurate way to measure other than the scales in the gym.

I am not really familiar with that medicine you are on. Is one of the side effects reduced metabolism? If so there may be some other fat loss strategies and supplements I would try before considering running a cycle. I would never advise anyone with 20-25% BF to run a cycle, With BF that high it should be so easy to drop some BF with just a little tweak in diet and cardio. That is where I would start is with adding in some more cardio at least. Shouldn't have to do anything extreme starting with where you are at with body composition. More extreme dieting and cardio etc and the use of fat loss aids becomes more necessary as you are getting closer to single digits and then a cycle is warranted to preserve muscle tissue if going lower.

Unfortunately yes, my resting pulse used to be around 65, now it can drop to 45. Never considered myself to have a high BF% but as I said before, I was never interested in bodybuilding. Interesting that you don't feel I need to worry about muscle loss until my BF approaches single figures, that throws a whole new perspective on my problem, I assumed that I'd lose muscle quickly.

The muscle loss occurs once you have to implement more extreme measures to loose the fat. The body becomes very resistant to losing fat and more prone to losing muscle the lower your bodyfat becomes. The body was programmed that way through evolution. There is nothing extreme you have to do to lose bodyfat with your current body composition so the fat should melt off rapidly to begin with and then become harder to remove the lower you get. You have a long ways to go before that happens.
