+ 2 Closed Experiment: Lab Rats and Testosterone
Recently, I started a new lab course at school. Although this course is simply to help one acquire the proper skills for a more advanced course, I had the privilege to work with lab rats. At my table there are three fellow students, each of us cycle from here to there, but none of us really have any medical issues to really benefit from testosterone in more ways than just bulking.
Our designated rat suffered from arthritis as well as an abnormally large heart (this condition worsened during treatment). We were given small amounts of drugs to use, but the one that caught the eye of all the occupants at my table was the holy grail; testosterone. After the excitement left our faces, some taking longer than others, we chose to base our experiment on the effects of testosterone in rats with arthritis. This was a very difficult task, but the results were outstanding compared to fellow classmates.
I am going to cut to the chase as my paper is due for this experiment and I need to ensure that I write it properly. The rat, which we named Mini Arnie was a success story. At the start of the experiment, our rat showed signs of pain during daily exercise, was unable to jump to the secondary level of his portioned cage, and showed signs of fatigue shortly after his nap. The final results were that Mini Arnie was capable of jumping to the secondary level of his cage, ran on his wheel quite often without signs of fatigue or pain, and the swelling in his spine decreased significantly.
I know this isn't really a post for humans, but it does go to show that testosterone can have positive effects on much more than just our aesthetic figures.
Also, I really wish we were allowed to run labs on his values, but due to me being on academic probation for on campus alcohol consumption, I am not allowed to use school facilities outside of my own course requirements. Hope everyone enjoys this post.

That's pretty cool. How did you measure the hypertrophy to his heart tho? And how much worse did it get ?
We used imaging to measure the ventricles, septum, and chamber of the heart. The heart, in most key areas, increased by 10% to 20% approximately.
Every experiment has a control. What was yours?
While determing dosage did you you research, or did you use body weight and a math formula?
I would love be able to conduct science, i use it for my life. Using research and sound ratios to perfect my craft
We administered .01 ml IM during the experiment thrice weekly. The solution was 100 mg/ml no ester. We based our calculations on 1mg/lb of body weight for each injection. As no other rats displayed symptoms of arthritis, we had no options for a control, but this was simply to reinforce a more detailed experiment conducted by the senior grad students at our school. I do love science, and I love learning new things about science.
Honestly, I felt bad about injecting the little guy because of his squeaks, but his results were phenomenal.
