Bodybuilding Criteria?

ad

What guidelines do judges go off of in bodybuilding competitions? How are individuals being graded? I wish I had more to ask but i'm ignorant on this topic and unsure what else I could ask.

Solomon the wise! Lol seems appropriate. After the competition are you told what you need to work on? And what's the standard? If I'm 6' how could I ever beat someone that's 6'4!? Line up category... How is this determined?

If you so desire you can talk to a judge at the end of the night and he/she can give you feed back as to what would improve your physique. As far as your height goes, in bodybuilding the taller you are the harder it is to win your category.

For example if you are in the light heavy (cut off 198lb) at 6 foot the shorter guys in that category will have an advantage cause they are more compact and pack on more muscle since they are shorter and weigh the same. So a 6'4 guy would have to be in the super heavies if he wants to do some damage in a descent show. On average guys between 5'6 - 6 feet are the ones winning most of the shows.

From my experience the most rewarded feature is by far conditioning, how lean you are in comparison to your line up/category.

After the conditioning is there I would say size, muscularity, shape and then proportions and symmetry.

Shape is genetics, as in shape of the muscle and the muscle bellies, symmetry is half genetics and half working out properly. Proportions is also important, a missing body part stands out like a sore thumb. You don't want to walk on stage with no legs or a weak back.

Size, well all things being equal between 2 competitors the bigger of the 2 will win.

Also keep in mind proper tan and oil is also important as it will display your physique better.
