What’s your favorite source of carbs?

Now sometimes throwing shitty potatoes in the air fryer and nuking minute rice is all you can do, and it works! What is your favorite though?

Bonus points for recipes and outside the box ideas!

Jacket potatoes, wheetabix? Trump wants to change the name of the language to "american" instead of "english". Yiu guys hear that new one? The deviled egg potato salad sounds good though. I can eat sweet potatoes all day though.

Gannen60's picture

Aahhh well… I forgot about sweet tatties! They’re fitting into 2nd place only because they aren’t an instant munch Blum 3
I mean the gulf of “America”

Sweet potato and brown rice

Rice is definitely my favorite, my girl makes some amazing lemon rice that I can’t get enough of.

Second would be potatoes, too many ways to cook them and they’re all great. Boil em, mash em, stick em in a stew!

Couscous, Very flexible. It’s ready in 3 minutes, and depending on whether you’re bulking or cutting, you can add more or less water so you feel more or less full. It also has a low glycemic index.

Tried it but could never get into it. Mostly a texture thing I think.

I’m going to be honest here. I have a little debbie cake of some sort about once a week. That’s my favorite. I’ve lost ~65 pounds in the last 18 months, went from a fatty to a slightly less fatty, and every once in awhile I have to feed that sweet tooth. Is it trash? 100%. I’m a 46 year old single dad of 2 teenagers, sometimes I need that Lil Deb, I’m convinced it keeps me from taking up smoking again.

My daily “healthy” carb is potatoes. I like golds or sweet but if someone else is making them I’m non-discriminatory

Brother, honestly… after losing 65lbs and changing your life around, you absolutely earned your Little Debbie moment

And what you said is actually the important part:
your daily habits are potatoes, structured eating, consistency, better choices overall.

That’s what creates the outcome long term.

People get too obsessed with the occasional cheat meal and ignore the fact that it’s the repeated habits that shape the physique and health … not one damn snack cake once a week

You were consistent with habits that made you overweight before, then became consistent with habits that improved your physique and quality of life. That’s the real difference.

And honestly, I’d much rather see someone strategically enjoy a planned treat once in awhile than eventually snap and lose control completely.

Plus… sometimes mental sanity and serotonin matter too LMAO

100%. Cheat meals are essential for me. If I go too hard and get repetitive I’m way more likely to break. Like wake up at 3am and raid the fridge type cravings lol. With something that I truly truly enjoy and don’t have to weigh precisely one a week or so it helps keep my sanity. I normally time this around social events and such so I can enjoy with the crowd. Though I am guilty of trying to make even my cheat meals fit in my macros for the day.

Mental health and physical health go hand and hand imo. My worst period of depression was also the worst shape I’d ever been in.

Sometimes the weekends end up being a shit show for me man. Esp Sundays. You're not the only one...

In any event, no matter how clean I eat, surplus, deficit, whatever - I ALWAYS wake up feeling great about myself and go to bed feeling like a piece of shit. Ive heard a lot of other guys say the same thing as well.

Turtleheadjoe's picture

I agree with that sentiment, by the end of the day I’ve had enough of my own bullshit, but I wake up feeling good. I live in an entertainment district, there are 2 concert venues and 3 breweries along with a ton of other shit within walking distance. If one of the buddies wants a beer on a Saturday I’ll go and drink 4 with him, I’m no bitch, I’m not competing with anyone but myself, but answering to myself can suck

I got a chopper from Amazon and just use 350g potato each day on my current cut. I sit them in cold water once cut for 20 mins then dry them with a towel before adding spray olive oil and seasonings then throwing in the air fryer. Come to think of it, my diet doesn't consist of much processed food:

350g potato
250g 5% mince
150g chicken breast
7 rice cakes
spicy chilli con carne sauce with kidney beans
2 scoops whey
300g skyr yogurt
100g cottage cheese
100g frozen blueberries
50g oats
3 eggs

I eat those foods every training day and cut carbs right down of off days. Lost 55lbs since starting my cut in October on basically 125mg test and .5mg reta up until starting a mini blast of 300mg test p and 50mg anavar near the end of March. I need to drop another 20lbs so adding Masteron in on Monday and dropping the var. Recently started Cardarine at 20mg and Proviron at 50mg too.

I dunno if you’ve ever tried it, but throw the potatoes in a rolling boil to parboil them before baking/frying.

You have the be careful as the outer layer will be super soft, but this creates an ultra crunchy outer layer and keeps the inside fluffy. Sometimes I want a more uniform texture, but for wedges and diced I use this method quite a bit!

My easiest diet ever was all because of sweet potatoes. Zero cravings for random junk, but was always craving chicken and sweet potatoes. Hell I still crave them post diet

mcclovin's picture

Dude, it's such a game changer. For the larger ones I'll do 260° for four hours in the air fryer so for the conventional oven it's going to be closer to 275 or 300°

mcclovin's picture

Do it! I buy a 40lb box at a time from H mart lol. But give yourself plenty of extra time to cook the sweet potato, if you see the skin browning cover it with foil and turn the oven down to the lowest temp
