Almost pound ribeye. Half avocado. Cup and half of rice.

One of my favorite bulk meals.

What are some you yours?

I ran 400ish Dhb over summer and I think that was a little much but 300mg is prob the best amount. I found myself sweating at night and super warm throughout the day

I've watched some of those interviews recently but it sounds like they're really talking about people not on gear. On cycle you have the ability to use up more calories to convert than you would natty is what I've always read

Black90tsi's picture

I should probably read that booklet one of these days.

My two cents- they may be 100% correct and the studies may say just that. Over 200-300 or whatever may be a waste and not add any more lean muscle tissue. But those are more than likely natural guys and also a lot of studies are untrained guys. But let’s say they are on gear, maybe they’ve maxed out at that 200 calories an that’s all you need. I’m not gunna risk leaving gains on the table, I’m going for the moon, that’s just how I roll lol. Also I’d be willing to bet if jay cutler, Phil heath and basically any dude on the Olympia stage wouldn’t have got there in a 200 calorie surplus. I work my fucikg ass off in the gym, so I’d like to think that I could probably utilize a few extra calories more than the average lifter in your commercial gym. I’d say most of us on here are exceptional, not average, those studies are for average guys. We’re hardcore, we push shit. Now if the 200 calorie surplus will grow MORE tissue than 500+ then I would try it, but if they’re just saying the 500 is a waste, then that’s fine and I’ll keep wasting lol

Im just going with keep adding food first until its obviously starting to put on more fat than you're comfortable with. At that point either take a small step back and keep going as you were or up the gear you're running and keep going at higher calories. Starting out at a solid 250-300 calories over maintenance is perfectly fine and will give you enough room to grow some. That's a good 10% over maintenance for me. I don't really think I've ever tried to go past 20% over as it clearly makes me fat.

Black90tsi's picture

I don't have an answer for you. We have decades of peoples experiences eating at a surplus of over a couple hundred calories and putting on plenty of lean tissue. Particularly those who are experienced and running gear. Maybe the latest research is showing that it isn't the most efficient way. But i think most, if not all, of those studies are done on people that are natty. I can't see how ethically they could add in gear. And even if they could then you've added another variable to account for.

smallsmoothballsack's picture

I mean usually I try to keep my bulk surplus around 300-500. Slower the bulk, less fat gained while doing it I've found.

That is straight fire. I love foods of different cultures, and learning how to make them. Last week the wife made some tikka masala aka Indian and that over rice was fire. Some favorites of mine are Thai inspired dishes or orange chicken over rice.

With it being cold outside, I’m thinking it might be a turkey chili this week. Anything with sauce and meat that can be put over rice is an A1 bulking meal in my book

Dude I've perfected my chili recipe. I don't use turkey tho. Gotta be ground beef in the chili

Matter of fact I'm going to make a batch.

1/2 lb seasoned ground beef, i like McCormicks hamburger seasoning
3 scrambled eggs with 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup jasmine rice
Mix everything and add hot sauce to taste

I do nearly the same recipe with fajita seasoning and throw it all into low carb tortilla on lazy days. Can swap out beef with whatever meat you want really.

+1

That makes a giant bowl of food for me. Easily 1 lb. Id need at least 3 8" soft tortillas to use. But now I'm wondering if a couple tablespoons of sour cream on top of it all might not be a nice addition. So thanks for the idea.

smallsmoothballsack's picture

Yup...usually during a bulk I'll prep like 5-10 burritos and put then in the fridge or freezer.

Been on a 93/7 ground turkey kick the last few weeks

Very nice. Higher in calories but more on the healthier side. Not just pounding big macs and pizza.

I eat it all the time. Have the beef and rice pre cooked and just make the eggs fresh while you reheat everything else. You can drive the calories up or down with the fat content of the beef and cheese. It can go anywhere from just under 800 calories to 1100 ish. The image is my cut version.

smallsmoothballsack's picture

Dam the 96/4 beef. I see you papi

Black90tsi's picture

I did say it was the cut version. You'll notice it's fat free cheese in there too. Which is actually a lot better than you'd think in eggs. Not so much all by itself though.

If you want to cut another 80-100 calories you can swap in 99/1 ground chicken or turkey. But it's really easy to overcook it so it's just dry and chewy.

Chicken Thighs and Sirloin! A match made in heaven. I've also been rocking with pork chops recently as well. Lean and easy on the pockets.

The king of steaks. People are scared of fat and shy towards the tenderloin/filet mignon, but there’s so much more flavor in a ribeye to me

Yea I eat all the intramuscular fat but the fat cap and excess fat in between the eye and the spinalis gets tossed.

Truly is the king of steaks. I'm also known as the steak master amongst the homies. I've perfected grilled and seared steaks and prime rib.
