Who do you guys think is the best band,song or singer of any type of music so far.Be it beethoven to oasis ryt dwn to britney spears or even tupac and right said fred lol anything goes love to know what everyone thinks ?

For chilling a bit of Pink floyd or Bob dylan and for working out or training to in general its got to be heavy be it such as "And justice for all" favourite Metallica album or some pantera..." Fucking hostile" comes to mind or sometimes I mix it up with some Gangsta Rap like some Big L (RIP) or some Biggie (RIP) violent music works for me during workouts.
Wu tang no 1 for me tho if its heavy and hard Wu Tang it is, All of course IMO.
Most influencial band has got to be the beatles in pop or black sabbath for rock, best front man has to have been freddie mercury and Queen were awesome add to that freddies stage presence and voice untouchable.
My favourite songs "severe punishment" by Wu Tang or "All Black" by Big L(rap), wish you were here pink floyd (prog rock) and the Bomb by the Bucketheads funky ass 90's tune lol a wide spectrum of taste for sure

The beatles are great i got my first album when i was about 13 it was the sgt peppers album they become a big part of my stoner days it was like the sound track to my life that and the pink floyd song echoes realy chilled music.That being said i do think Tupac is great and love his music i love rap,grime,and jungle mcing not because i think i am a bad man G or owt lol.Just each song has a story to tell written by dat artist without it being fukt about with when its more about the music and less about the money dnt get me wrong i know tupac loved the money and a lot of rappers do it just for the money you cnt blame them a lot of them have came from nothing when you get people like Big L and the uk grime artist Temps or cronik you here the truth and if you come from a shit area or poor background your gna like that more than some pop star singing songs wrote for them and half the shit they say dnt make any sence lol some of the songs piss me off so much when everyones saying its great yet when you ask what there on about in the song know one even knows.I like ray charles to hes just great and a bit of the rat pack i love the story of them just thinking about the people they mixed with intrests me and artists with a bit of story behind them.oasis are great to shame they split.Av started this topic...now when i think about it i dnt even know myself whos the best artist or what song is the best lol i dnt think you can just single one out.
For me....RUSH. I had nearly their whole collection before it got lost in house fire :(

Yeah..as a collector of OLD SCHOOL vinyl..RUSH was one of those bands that I really enjoyed reading the inner sleeve of their albums. The visuals ALONG with the lyrical composition was second to none! The only band I can think of right now that is comparable would be TOOL. However, I am impartial to TOOL as they are one of the handful of ARTISTS who are arguably the best musicians at what they do! To see them live really emphasizes the complete musicians they are!
Tool...not fully fan only because i wanna hear more than the few i have but their arrangements, vocals and drumming is phenominal!! I just have handfull of Tool on iPod and do want more. Will be downloading all their tunes very soon
CleyonDream Theater, Tool, and Primus are "musician's" bands. People who play love their stuff, but they never get much mainstream recognition outside of that set. Rush is one of the few bands that is insanely good technically, and was still able to break out of that mold.
I can't tell you how much I love them (of course as a drummer loving Neil is pretty much a given). Seeing Geddy Lee play the bass, keyboard, and bass-pedels at the same time is really impressive, as is Alex's shredding (yet unobtrusive) guitar work.
Yeah, PRIMUS was a band that I thought would've broke through..unfortunately, I guess their style wasn't appreciated by non musicians!
I met Les circa '91 when they toured with Fishbone supporting the 'Seas of Cheese'. The man is one of the nicest, down to earth human beings on the planet! A little odd, but, no such arrogance that you'd find with many artists! He is probably one of the greatest bass innovators of our time! Totally underrated and unappreciated!
BTW I haven't missed a Rush tour in the northeast since I started following them around '84. I'll be there again to catch a few shows later this year in October. If your going, hit me up, we can meet and shoot the shit!
CleyonLes is a REALLY cool guy, I've gotten to hang out with him a couple of times, and he's never been rude or dismissive to anyone that I've seen. As far as bass innovators? Yeah, he's up there with Jaco, Bootsie, and the rest of the greats.
I'm in Texas, so probably won't be going to the NE for a Rush show any time soon! LOL!
Being lucky enough to see em three times Live....amazing! Back in the Presto era. Damn work messed up snakes tour. But yes...agree that true musicians with their own "play for love of music" is a bonus.
Yeah, The BEATLES are arguably THE MOST INFLUENCIAL band in music history. Being in the industry, this argumement comes up almost weekly at events. If you brake it down to through thit decades it could be said that the BEATLES ruled the 60's. LED ZEPPELIN became the most influential throughout the 70's(both musically AND promotionally). Then VAN HALEN became the influential act that led to the hair/glam rock genre that still permeates today. METALLICA was king of the 90's...finally getting the mainstream radio stations to play 'heavier' music...since then no ONE BAND can be said to be the most influential. There have been so many off shoots of several genres that although it's broadened the musical landscape, at the same time it has watered it down. Especially with the advent of digital recording that allows ANYONE with a couple of hundred bucks to produce a high quality recording in their basement. I can't remember the last time I listened to mainstream radio and heard a GUITAR SOLO! It's become a lost art!
If you take into account that a band like RUSH has been around longer(''69-present) without ever breaking up and has had the SAME LINE UP since '74.. It has been said BY MANY within the industry(artists & producers) that they are the MOST influential band. They're right behind the BEATLES and The ROLLING STONES for MOST consecutive GOLD & PLATINUM albums. They've also spanned EVERY musical genre from blues/rock to SKA thru progressive/metal. That's kind of hard to do AND still be relevant!
CleyonEXACTLY RIGHT! I was a working musician for 10yrs. I miss the guitar solo! The last song that got any airplay with one was "According To You" by Orianthi. I had hope that it was starting to turn around... and then came this "Call Me Maybe" crap.
When you get into genres it's a cluster. Especially if you try to track lineage of the Blues.
OK, now I have to release the Kraken! (You brought this on yourself) 90% of the music being fed to us by the music industry SUCKS! The song writing sucks, the singing sucks, the musicianship sucks. No Travis Barker is NOT a great drummer, Ke$ha cannot sing, and Lady Gaga isn't an amazing artist.
If you don't write your own music, then you aren't an artist, if you can't play anything besides bar chords you aren't a guitar player. That's why I have no respect for Celine Dion, even though my wife thinks she's an amazing singer. She's singing something written by someone else.
Cleyon, I hope you don't think I agree with the current crap being fed over the airwaves??... I'm old school...just like you said..If you don't write your own stuff or perform your own stuff then your not an artist...your an entertainer! Travis is an AVERAGE drummer...Ke$ha is an entertainer.. But, LADY GAGA...whether you like her or not is an artist..both musically and visually. She does write MOST of her stuff(however it is HEAVILY PRODUCED) once in the studio. As far as Celine Dion, I never understood the fascination with her..I've never thought much of her voice OR performances.
I was VERY HOPEFUL during the 90's with artists like Smashing Pumpkins(B. Corrigan), Pearl Jam(E. Vedder) and Soundgarden(C.
Cornell) that musicianship was going to 'comeback'..unfortunately, as I said earlier, with the advent of digital recording ANY & ALL sorts of
pseudo-musicians were able to create HEAVILY produced material cheaply...and with the industry losing hundreds of millions of dollars to the likes of Napster they found it to be MORE PROFITABLE to sign these no talent artist for pennies on the dollar and flood the airwaves with uninspiring music! Its the same for television...EVERY OTHER SHOW is a reality show..that's because it's soo cheap to produce with almost no overhead!!!
I miss the days of ANALOG where you had to KNOW HAD TO PLAY PROFICIENTLY!!! If you fucked up during recording you had to do it over again until you got it right!!! Unlike today where you have bands like Kings Of Leon where these guys BARELY know how to play their instrument, but, because of digital recording they can go back into the track and BEND it here..or FIX it there..WTF?
MUSICIANS of the ANALOG AGE were so proficient at their given art because they put in YEARS of Blood,Sweat & Tears BOTH in studio & on stage?...
CleyonI remember when ProTools shipped Jimmy Eat World song "The Middle" with the 001. It was amazing to look at it and see how chopped to hell it was. I'd be embarassed if I was them. Hey sometimes you need minor corrections, and I'm OK with that, but if you CAN'T play the song live almost identically to what is on the CD, then you are crap.
I told a band that once, because I was hired to play the drums for the spoiled little kid that couldn't actually PLAY the songs. I told them straight up, fire him and find someone else.
I worked with a band called Marcy Playground in '95-'96. Their original drummer Jarred, was AWFUL to say the least! The band had been signed by Capitol records due to the songwriting of Wozniak(circa 95). Because they were signed they had to form a complete band so they could tour. I remember the embarrassing moments both on stage and in studio because of the incompetency of the drummer. Thankfully this was the dawn of the digital age and things were tweaked in studio, but, they couldn't get through a live set without MULTIPLE fuck-ups because their drummer couldn't play.
Btw I still have my little blue original ProTools 001LE packed away safely...it must've been one of the first produced because there was no 'Jimmy Eat World' included? I figure when my son grows up I can give it to him as an 'antique' from the dawn of the digital age. LOL
CleyonLOL That's too funny! I never bought a ProTools setup, I had a yamaha 01V channeled out to an EMU 1212 running Cubase.... That's right I was a PIMP! It always was a hassle recording with my bands, because we were all perfectionists. We'd spend three hours doing sound checks, and then maybe get two hours of recording in.
Sounds VERY FAMILIAR!! I've worked with acts that have wasted valuable studio time getting there late, being unprepared(either physically or musically/arrangements) and then bitch and moan when there session has timed out! We'd hear shit like 'The tracks sound like shit cause management wouldn't let us finish! WTF? The studio is for RECORDING...NOT REHEARSAL!! You should've been prepared weeks ago with a COMPLETE PLAN as to what you're going to do... ...unless you're a major act(like Rush) who can book a studio for up to a year and go in and write IN STUDIO... Some other acts we worked with were SUCH PERFECTIONISTS that we'd do the same track DOZENS of times.. The last take would sound EXACTLY like the first??? We'd have to explain that in this business 'TIME IS TRUELY MONEY'!
Most of the greatest recordings were done ONCE and captured on tape!! It was that RAW EMOTION that was captured..fresh...
Btw you mentioned drumming...have you played the Roland TD30kv's?? Its the first electronic kit where when I close my eyes and just listen, I can't differentiate between them and a true acoustic kit! UNBELIEVABLE response and nuance! unfortunately they're styled like most electric drums and aren't very appealing to the eye..I wish Roland would create shells and cymbals that resemble a real kit.
CleyonSome of the Roland kits are nice, but I still can't feel the love on electric kits. I'm a Yamaha guy my favorite being the Absolute Beech Custom. I've got 4 kits :-D

When you talk about influence, you are typically talking genre. This limits things, maybe we should be talking about Leo Fender for inventing the electric guitar, or Ross Snyder for inventing Miltitrack Recording. To many to mention really. However if we are talking about which band/group/artist spawned the most musical greatness from its influence, it's the Beatles.
