Thoughts on intermittent fasting

ad

So Im at roughly 20% bodyfat 19 by the measurements i took yesterday, Im currently doing everything the advised way down to weighing my meals and counting macros, training by schedule etc... Im considering intermittent fasting and ive been doing some reading, watching you tube videos and ted talks etc... Looks good and scientifically makes sense. Im considering the 16:8 method. My question is has anyone tried this and what advice do you have?

It's a great way to get an eating disorder by starving yourself and bingeing everyday, not a good idea at all IMO.

Good way to lean out. Small breaks from carb meals, replace with all protein.

It works short term, 2-4 weeks. Long term you will lose muscle size and muscle fullness from prolonged periods of fasting.

I’ve made the mistake of confusing scale loss with fat loss and burned up some muscle in the process. If your impulse control is poor and that’s the only way to stick to a diet for you then great, roll with it.

If you have the capacity to do a more traditional 5-6 meal a day moderate carb, high protein, low fat approach then you’ll make better muscle gains from that, and have a higher resting metabolism at the end of your cut. This metabolic increase offsets the inevitable diet rebound somewhat and you’ll look better overall. Up to you.

In theory if you eat before bed you reduce Your bodies ability to produce GH, do you find this to be true? does this only apply to carbs? How many hrs before bed should i not eat if any?

Bearded_muscle's picture

That’s stupid. Eat and grow. I’ve never eaten before bed and then gotten up in the night to check my gh levels and gotten really bummed out because I didn’t produce enough because I ate a big dinner.

The whole natty GH production mumbo jumbo doesn’t matter at all. Only gh that you should pay any attention to is if you’re pinning exogenous gh. That’s a whole different discussion.

Youre probably better off dialing your carbs in per day and doing fasted cardio in morning. Preserve muscle better that way

i typically go to the gym in the middle of the day because of my work schedule, i can do cardio in the morning fasted but would it then be ok to cont my weight training as usual? or should I do both in the am, i have in the past tried to lift in am before eating but ive always felt weaker.

Not sure how far uve experimented with u diet. I see that u are meal prepping, weighing out portions, and attention to macros, which is the foundation for any great diet. If u have gotten comfortable with all that basic, then it's good to experiment with more advanced plans. Just remember, the basic nutrition foundation u have, u will see great improvements and is healthy.. Advanced diets can be taxing, complex, and take a toll on ur workouts. U usually don't get them rite ur first go round, but it's all about learning what works for u. Make sure u have fun at what u do..

well i haven’t experimented much, back im december i decided that i finally had to resolve to do something about my diet if i wanted to push fwd because age and metabolism were no longer my friends. I am enjoying it and im learning alot reading through these posts and talking with you all. Im never going pro but i am in it to see this through for as long as i can and that means being honest with myself, asking for help, and changing the way i fo things. thanks for the help!

I mean intermittent fasting helps mainly with blood sugar and insulin sensitivity, but how about you post your specific macros and meal plan, it’ll give up more insight on how to help if we can

Also is that your picture in the profile? If so delete that shit

200 grams protein 400 grams carbs 44 grams fat roughly on avg (i using a tracking app). The profile pic is of Jack Lalanne hes dead but i font think he’d care, also hes what i desire to look like. Probably should swim more i spose. I eat a lot of tuna, boneless skinless chicken breast, turkey, deer meat (i hunt) unsalted almonds, avocados tomatoes raw spinach brown rice steel cut oats almond butter on menstermaker protein bread stuff like that, i have been breaking it up and eating small portions all day long all the way up to bed, oh and i supplement with isopure protein shakes with creatine about two a day and two or three days a week (because i hate the texture) ive taken casein before bed. i only drink coffee unsweetened tea (i like the uncle lees white tea) and water. In december i weighed 250 im at 228 now. My goal is 200. I deleted it anyways just in case copyright infringement or something

Try it out and see if it works for you. Intermittent fasting is nothing other than just another way to limit your caloric intake. Some people hate it some people love it, the only way to find out is to try it and see for yourself.
