The evolution of street fighting

ad

I think for the most part street fights and bar fight have evolved for the better. I think with the popularity of the UFC and other cage fighting venues people have schooled themselves somewhat in the art of street fighting. I’m not saying that watching UFC makes a mana better fight, I’m just saying people are somewhat aware of techniques that work possibly a little better than the did back in the day.
I would even submit that your average Joe fights a little better than the average Joe did 30 years ago.

What does everyone think about that?

I’m not saying everyone can now fight because they watched Jon Jones tapes. He’ll no. I do think there is an evolution.

One tool though that I think is getting lost in the mix and I don’t think that I’ve seen it used in a street fight in a while is the head butt.
I think a good head butt is an absolutely Brutal tool. We don’t see it in the UFC any more or in Pride fighting, I think because it is so effective....

Just random thoughts. What does everyone think about that?

All my love no homo

I use my head... and have managed to avoid fights.

You must have your boat in a slip. The launches are always prime for some action lol

Engineereddisaster's picture

Lol. I love boat dock drama.

Only second to the headbutt but also brutal is the elbow/forearm smash. But yes I agree. Which is why I at least keep training on mostly the speed bags and a little heavy. Most of these dudes haven't even thrown a punch in years or sometimes ever in a fight. But like said below cauliflower ears are a sign of impending doom lol. I also have a crooked nose so that is also a sign lol

First rule of fight club Ed

Engineereddisaster's picture

Lol. I am only schooled in the rules of no homo. Therefore can freely speak of fightclub. Smile

fusebox's picture

What about no homo fight club.

You are Definitely right about a good headbutt being absolutely brutal if done properly pal lol

About 10 years ago I was stood talking to one of my pals at the local car meet with my GF in tow, my pal who was a well built 230's ish guy had been gobby online with this skinny kid. Rumour had it the skinny kid was gonna do him over which everyone laughed about! Next thing this car rolls up and out stomps this 150lb kid who ya just though was gonna do F'all - storms right up to my mate head goes full tilt back and Booooomm! F**k me I have never seen anything like it, everyone froze in shock and just stood there. Including my pal laid out on the floor unable to see with streaming eyes and half his nose splattered across his face. He literally took about 5 minutes to see and come round, was panicking and everything - the sheer crack and crunch from it will stay with me as long as I live. The most cringe worthy thing I have ever seen. People respected the little guy quite a bit more after that Lmao .....

Engineereddisaster's picture

Nothing surprises like a well placed headbut lol.

Sometimes in a bar fight you are better off dropping a bomb and jogging home. Smile

Posturing has definitely evolved! There are more peacocks out there these days than the old days!

Engineereddisaster's picture

Lol definitely peacocks and not eagles

felony's picture

Curious if peacocks warrants a no homo? Don't want to be caught off guard. No homo.

As far as street fights nothing like punching a guy in the throat and then fish hooking the shit outa him while hes choking and gasping for air at the same time.

Engineereddisaster's picture

Lol. Nothing like a good fishhook to finish the job

Peacock is borderline. But still in the safe zone.

Engineereddisaster's picture

Damn. I’ve never heard it called a peacock.
Middle eastern wrestlers try that shit all the time. Try and find a match on YouTube where someone is wrestling An Iranian and the Iranian starts losing.

addicted.to.pain's picture

I would have to agree that the fighting on tv/internet has at least on a subliminal level affected the way people fight.

for the most part though your average Joe still has no clue how tiring and painful a real fight is nor how to fight , i.e wild sloppy punches for the most part.

your right though head butts are fkn brutal , me personally though I like a good smash to the throat that will put anyone down.

Engineereddisaster's picture

Watch an old western fight scene. That shit is hilarious.

Bearded_muscle's picture

Head butts and elbows, not usually seen in a basic scuffle but if they are they usually end it lol.

Engineereddisaster's picture

True dat

GreatSpear's picture

Most people still fight like absolute garbage. Wild hooks, no blocking, and comes down to luck/brute strength. I will say inmates fight better than your average joe in a tap out shirt, but that’s more from years of experience and necessity. I did get to see a great head butt in the gang unit, skinny hells angel guy head butted the shit out of a crip, rollin 60s I think. Broke the crips nose and split his lip.

Engineereddisaster's picture

I think a lot of people really get surprised when they square off against a wrestler, or a boxer or a kickboxer etc. that’s when they realize that the tap out shirt that they bought didn’t do them any good.

GreatSpear's picture

Fighting 101 right there, gotta read your opponent and feel out what he’s working with. I’m no expert, but it’s easy enough to read the signs, is he crouching low looking like he’s gonna shoot for the legs, bouncing on his toes bout to kick your head off, squared up with thumbs on his cheekbones, or just your average dude who watched the latest UFC fight on PPV and thinks his arms are lethal weapons now.

Engineereddisaster's picture

Always look at the ears. If the ears are balled up and looking shitty...you might be better off buying that guy a beer. Lol.

GreatSpear's picture

Very true! Also, “never fight an ugly man, they have nothing to lose”.

wanted's picture

Being in my 40’s. Street fights are noooo where near bar fights. Ive seen pool sticks, cue balls, beer bottles, nose biting, stools all being used. So a bar fight is nowhere near a street fight where im from..
you will see a young street punk with maybe some fighting skills but he has noooo idea what he is in for in a bar/ biker fight

Engineereddisaster's picture

This is good point. Smile

Engineereddisaster's picture

Lol. It’s probably good practice to keep the fight 1 on 1.

Engineereddisaster's picture

Lol. It’s funny though, maybe kids aren’t as good as when I was young. Kids don’t really fight at school like we did. My kid doesn’t have near the fights that I had as a kid. Granted, I grew up poor so that makes a little difference. Lol
