Special Supps You Take
ad
Just wanted to get an Idea on what kind of supps that the members on this board take. Now I don't mean the regular multi, fish oil or other omega supplement, liver health stuff, protein powder. I mean is there any supplement that is not really talked about or most people who are enhanced don't bother with that you take and you feel it has worked good for you.
Please list the supplement or supplements and what you feel your results were. It can be for performance, recovery, health whatever but don't say liv 52 or something very commonly used by people who are involved in this lifestyle. We are looking for the odd or overlooked supplement that may end up helping another member.

I stick with the basics:
Fish oil
Zinc
Magnesium
Vitamin D3/ disgestive enzymes (D3 mostly in the winter months)
I tend to avoid Protein powder nowadays, Doesnt really need it with a proper diet.
Digestive enzymes is something very overlooked today, it was more popular as a bodybuilding suppement back in the 60s/70s. A good digestive system should be the number 1 priority of any bodybuilder.
I personally have given up on supps except for glucosamine, creatine and every once in a while a pwo not even protein any more
multi vitamin
vitamin e
vitamin c
milk thistle
calcium/ vitamin d
saw palmetto
bcaas
thats my daily year round supp list.
thats on top of a proper nutritious diet full of meats, veggies, fruits, dairy etc etc.
the supplement market is a circus trying to sell you shit you dont need
buy protein in bulk if anything
RustyhookerI remember long ago the biggest suppliment was your daily vitamin. Piled on calories with yams, taters and rice. Piles of greens and cruciferous veggies for vitamins and absorption. Meat, eggs and fish every two hours with the above. Milk by the gallon. Liver care, joint care, essential fatty acids.
Now its a virtual vitamin shop. Every "professional" or dr proctor getting back door endorsements. All marketing to sucker you away from real foods. Jar of super shiney for 65 bucks. While I'm eating 6 pounds of just chicken a week for 12 bucks.
Remember beta excedysterone? Folks bought that shit up fir 30 per bottle. Find out later it moth moltings. So there's moth wings crushed into a capsule guaranteed by rich gaspari to enhance testosterone 300% !!
Funny I buy 3 lb bags of breasts for 5.99. They are super good....in the blender....with oatmeal.
Rustyhooker3 pounders yep. Haven't tried blending them yet, might look into it. Chicken wont go bad so I carry bunch around in cool can. Quick snacks. lol
Right now due to dieting I have 3 or 4 meals of 8 oz chicken breast and cup of oatmel blended. Slam it in 20-30 seconds, rather then choke it down for 20-30 minutes lol. No seasoning no cinnamon, although cinnamon might actually be a good addition lol.
Raw or cooked
Also as a side note if you are doing fats instead of carbs for a meal, or just increasing fats I find that almond butter actually compliments the chicken. Im a blender food scientist. I even blend eggs and shit in the morning lol, cook them up throw them in with liquid egg whites and whatever other shit hits my macros and boom down the hatch.
That's going too far.......
hahahaah he must love the smell of fresh feacies in the morning hahahahah
2000 nice catalyst .....
Cooked of course lol. Basically I go shopping buy a shit load of chicken from 6-12 lbs and just bake it all up for the week. Then I blend away. I want to try sweet potatoes in the blender but not sure how that will work, probably ok. For awhile when I was just putting the pounds on I would blend and drink a whole pound with broccoli for my very last meal. I have eaten so many chicken breasts if I never have to eat another one again, no sweat off my back. I would much rather just drink it. Doesn't bother me, but gross's everybody out. The only thing, if you do oatmeal and chicken in like a shaker cup and take it with you and let it sit, it will thicken and you may need to add more water and transfer half to another shaker etc.
I do have to say though, when its time to eat my ground beef and brown rice meal before I train. I am pumped as fuck lmfao. That's how you know your dieting.
Wasnt sure you seen that japanese bodybuilder on youtube he would blend raw frozen chicken breasts with water and down them ..dude was hardcore so much so it killed him
I know exactly who you are talking about. From what I heard salmonella is not as prevalent in japan like it is over here so they actually will consume stuff raw. Don't know if that's true but what I heard. As far as his death, I believe he died by fucking up on his use of diuretics before his show. But yeah he was hardcore, impressive video of him getting lean though.
Yes again that is true. Pretty much ever since the FDA has changed there policy on drugs and supplements and made it legal for anyone to put out anything and post outrageous claims and only after proven harmful is removed from the shelf it has been a circus. Simultaneously having people like Dr. Oz promote many of these products also doesn't help. However, that still has nothing to do with the question asked. Your statement while true, and while the majority of my own supplement budget is spent on "Girly Powder" as Viking calls it, still does not mean there are no beneficial supplements, that is ridiculous.
I recommend taking a look at guys like John Meadows and Dr. Eric Serrano who he closely works with. Both of them support an array of supplements with detailed science and real life use. There is a reason so many bodybuilders are going to these people now for guidance and there expertise. I mean IFBB Pro Phil Hernon and his use of LBA's (Liquid Beef Aminos) pretty interesting.
So yes we can all agree that the supplement market is a joke. But this thread is for contributing knowledge of a useful nature, not stating what every moderately serious physique enthusiasts already knows. Not trying to be a dick.
Thank you for contributing something though.
.
There are no magic pills or secret supplements that people take to become their best. It's all hard work, serious food and dedication... Actually, that's a rare stack for most people, so there you go.
Yes I totally agree with you, but.....that has nothing to do with the topic. Anybody who has built a moderately decent physique can attest to that truth. The question pertains to the odd supplement in which someone has found benefitted them that others may not know about or have overlooked.
For example someone could say something like, I find that combining alpha lipoic acid or ALA and chromium taken with my post workout shake consisting of protein and fast digesting carbs such as dextrose, karbolyn, cyclic dextrin or whatever helps my recovery and research shows those supplements regulate blood glucose and help shuttle them into the muscle cell more efficiently and also seems to minimize fat gain which helps with dieting.
Something like that, no magic pill.
It has everything to do with the topic. My point was that in all my years (I'm quite a bit older than you), I've NEVER found any supplement or combination of supplements that really do much. Lots of the right foods, rest and serious lifting do 100 times more than ANY supplement or combinations of supplements.
I still use a few supplements (whey, casein, fish oil, multi-vit's, liver supps, etc.), but I sure don't see much from them, as far as visible gains, etc. Can supplements help a little, sure, but it's a small percentage.
I have nothing against you asking the question and I'd love to hear more, but I think my experience is pretty universal.
Totally agree. I was more just seeing if someone would mention some odd supplement that maybe I have never heard of or never thought to use for there particular reason for using it. I understand what you are saying and definitely agree that a supplement is just that, a supplement to an on point diet and consistent purpose fueled workout routine. But I am hoping to learn something new if I can, and thought this might be an interesting topic. That is the reason I made this thread, to hopefully learn something that I didn't know.
I would love to find something new and exciting as well. I am an optimist by heart, but I'm also a realist.
Here's to finding something new.
Agreed
