Sleep aid

ad

Anybody know a good sleep aid. Something non habit forming. I work third shift and it’s very hard to sleep when I get home.

Drexyl's picture

I don’t sleep well, I’ve tried just about everything OTC, but nothing is great. I’m a person with a lot on his mind though. Next stop, Thorazine I guess.

eighty7's picture

You're probably have a magnesium deficiency

Drexyl's picture

Just looked into this, definitely has my interest. Would explain some anxiety issues I have as well. Thanks 87, solid!

eighty7's picture

Go to Sprouts and buy their brand of "Anxiety Soother" https://www.nhc.com/anxiety-soother-holy-basil-by-herb-pharm?quantity=1&...

Get a magnesium blend https://a.co/d/0W3oX0s

Magnesium L-Threonate is good for your brain but it's the most expensive one and harder to find

Thanks, I’ll have to get it checked. It’s really bad at times. Hard time falling asleep, then after I do I’ll wake up every couple of hours. It’s pretty terrible to be honest. I’ve always chalked it up to life stress.

Bill1976's picture

Same here I wake up every couple of hours. Found that a sleep mask works a little bit

Best not to assume and go get a sleep study if it's that bad. Magnesium won't help if it's a more serious issue.

eighty7's picture

Magnesium is something that almost everyone is lacking and it will help a lot with more than just sleep.

Makwa's picture

Every body builder should always keep optimum Mg levels. Definitely does impact a lot more than just sleep.

https://www.eroids.com/forums/training-nutrition-diet/supplements/magnes...

DeeMan's picture

Of course. It's involved in many enzymes though out the body. One reason lacking is because folks sweat it out like they do other electrolytes etc..

Drexyl's picture

Been there, apnea but not severe. Have the cpap but honestly hate the thing and rarely use it. It doesn’t make a noticeable difference except for making it even harder to fall asleep.

DeeMan's picture

O ok. So you know exactly what I'm talking about. Yeah man sleep issues are serious. Everything starts with sleep as you know. Wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy seriously.

DeeMan's picture

Yeah bro look into magnesium. Now all magnesium isn't same level of bioavailability. Whatever ya do don't mess with magnesium oxide

eighty7's picture

He can buy a magnesium complex that has 6 different forms of it

DeeMan's picture

Yeah I've seen that one before. Yea there are some good forms of magnesium out there definitely

Citrate

eighty7's picture

That one just makes you shit

Drexyl's picture

I wanted to get it today, after reading up on it, the glycinate (aside from a blend) will fit my needs best. It was actually an effort to find, all the drug stores had the oxide formulation. But I put forth the effort like a good trooper lol. Thanks for the advice 87, I mean that.

DeeMan's picture

Good you avoided oxide form. The gycinate amino acid bonding form is good. I've used it in the past.

eighty7's picture

Being on steroids also effects your adrenals so you produce more cortisol. So there is probably more than one reason you have anxiety and can't sleep. Use a magnesium blend, high amounts of B Complex, and anything to support your Adrenals and herbs for Anxiety.

Drexyl's picture

Man I really feel like an asshole. I’m not a young guy, I made a slip in my lifestyle. I definitely fucked up. Thanks 87, another order coming soon. FML, getting older isn’t great, but beats the alternative. Be on the sunny side of the grass lol. Thanks guy, solid source.

DeeMan's picture

Can't forget Vitamin C. Very important to adrenal gland

DeeMan's picture

Yep. This is correct. Sold as a laxative in green glass bottle

DeeMan's picture

Citrate messes up some folks stomach

DeeMan's picture

Citrate is sour cause it is from citric acid background. So a big percentage of magnesium citrate is the citrate bonding. Still is good though. Citric acid is acid in fruits, nothing bad.

Zee's picture

Glycine, magnesium glycinate and I sometimes add L-theanine if feeling stressed.

I would definitely recommend Glycine before bed for anyone that workout as it improves your deep sleep and number of sleep cycles so really good for muscle recovery as well as joint/ligament support. I find if I wake up at middle of the night I fall asleep again really quickly. Combined with GH it is even better.

PhillyMelvin_Smelvin's picture

Holy basil and liquid magnesium

Greg's picture

no, no, no, it's... Holy basil and Liquid magnesium Batman!

JakeKO's picture

TrainElite's picture

Good quality HGH will give you the best sleep and regulate your sleep patterns like no other. Side effect: You might get swole and shredded. Few dollars a day. Do it

Stephenalt's picture

Seroquel. Hard to get in rx'd in 25mg tabs, but it works like nothing else. Better than Ambien - and you don't have any crazy side effects like Ambien, and it isn't habit forming (I mean anything can be, but Ambien def causes dependency).

Benadryl works pretty good as well, for OTC.

These aren't ideal, I imagine most people are going to recommend natural stuff - but I know what shift work is like. At a certain point you turn into a zombie if you can't get your rhythm adjusted.

Good luck man. Hopefully you can get knocked out good for a week or so and you'll get into a schedule.

scoobydoo's picture

I use Natrol 3mg time release melatonin. The time release works much better for me.

ONESICK's picture

A lot of people don't think of this but watch your caffeine intake as well as B vitamins (blends). You could take that shit early in the day and have a hard time sleeping. Sure it won't give you energy but it'll cause you to become restless.

DeeMan's picture

If you can go the natural route that would be best in my opinion. Gotta get good sleep. That's were recovery really starts.

JohnJuice's picture

I've attempted various approaches, including melatonin, CBD, and magnesium, among others. However, the truth remains that any substance you consume can create a reliance, as it trains your brain to associate it with a good night's sleep. Consequently, when you don't take it, your sleep is disrupted, leading to a repetitive cycle. Moreover, these substances can cause withdrawal symptoms, with melatonin being particularly noteworthy as it is intended for short-term use, and less is often more effective.

In light of this, I highly recommend exploring cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and seeking professional guidance. Our bodies possess the inherent ability to sleep, so if we are experiencing difficulties in that regard, assuming there are no underlying medical conditions, it is likely related to our mental well-being. Unless we address and treat the root cause, the problem will persist despite other interventions.

Bill1976's picture

Root cause is I started working third shift. Trying to get use to sleeping at 8 AM. Hopefully it’s only temporary

Adjusting to a new sleep routine may take some time and effort, I have been working jobs with night shifts and it took time to get used to it. As much as I would love to take the last sip of coffee an hour before bed (cuz I love the taste) I tend not to, try to avoid all stimulants as possible. I tend to limit exposure to light, especially in the hours leading up to bedtime, I use blue light filters on my electronic devices. Also, a hot shower and cold room right after help me fall asleep faster. And I use earplugs, mainly because my cat likes to play at night, and it disturbs my sleep.

I hope anything here written helps, have a nice sleep.

This works really well for me. Even half a can seems to do the job.

Bill1976's picture

Hey thanks dude. I just ordered a case. 60$ though. That’s for 24 days.

I know it's more expensive than a pill for sure but it works for me.

Fuckn cbd and a blowjob works 60% of the time EVERY time!

I get seroquel from the Dr. Knocks me out in about 15-30 mins and you'll sleep solid for several hours

Ohyo2247's picture

i take that too but he said non habit formimg lol trying going a night without it after extened use and you will feel very weird and shitty not to mention all the food you crave once it kicks in can cause you seriouse blood suger issues like i have now it does work fucking great though total knock out

Badgoat1's picture

I don't have any problem sleeping without it except when using tren. It just helps me not wake up so much from every little noise because I'm a light sleeper. The only issue I have with it is that I wake up feeling dehydrated as hell and the hangover effect for a few hours afterward.

Stephenalt's picture

What is your dosage? I've gone up to 100mg without sides (idk about blood sugar) personally, but I think 25-50mg is plenty for most people.

Badgoat1's picture

100 was way too much for me that was putting me out all weekend. I currently use 25mg on work nights that gives me about 6 hours and is easy to wake up from. I get 50s on the weekend but the Dr wants me taking 50 nightly so she discontinued the 25s
