So I have been at my current employment for 10 years. I make a 6 figure income with overtime. Its shift work. Has ok benefits with a retirement. But I fing hate it. More and more i dread going in. The environment has become soul suckingly negative and very toxic over the past two years and has no signs of getting better. Cant trust anyone. Upper management firing people at every whim. New hires just stop coming after just a few weeks. Dont even give a notice or call.....just straight up stop coming in. Salary is no different. Several new Supervisors literally walked out during their shift over the past year. BUT it has afforded me and my family a pretty good life. Im sure there are worse places to work. The struggle to convince myself to stay has been extremely hard. I'm forcing myself at this point. I'll be 40 this year and I just can't see myself staying till retirement. Thanks for letting me vent lol

learn hard if you want to achieve something!
All i know is all the kids in high school contemplating careers need to pay real close attention to what jobs are considered "essential jobs" right now and are still getting 40+ hr paychecks.
This is why I always worked in food processing plants. Particularly ones with filler machines. I learned in a milk bottling plant and I now work I know a place that puts food in cans, pouches and jars. Everything from soups to spaghetti sauce. But during this corona virus we have been working just under 80 hours a week just to keep up. Every time we fill the stores up it al gets bought up. It’s now just starting to slow down. Thank god. I worked 31 days straight and finally have a day off tomorrow. It’s 5 am now and I’m about to go in. Also if you don’t have a mask you can’t leave your house. Problem was there wasn’t any masks. My company somehow got 2,000 of them so I am thankful because it is a 1,000 fine and I need my money right now with four kids and the wife out of work. Short lesson is. Food facilities don’t lay off. No matter how broke people are they will have to eat.
Yes i am glad you are one of the few still working. I remind myself to be grateful when im envying the guy next door getting his unemployment plus $600 from Federal check lol
Having a job w/ good benefits & 401k is a great thing. Usually you have to play politics on those jobs. I'm in the same boat, but my 401K made 20% interest in 2019 alone. Soo... I'd be foolish to quit out of common company BS. Think about your moves carefully..you can look back & regret it if you made wrong move out of emotion or frustration.
If you've got skills, work for yourself, or, at least look for a new job. The best time to look for a job is when you already have one.
Are you working to live, or living to work? Don't waste 10 more years.

Thanks for the advice Greg. I have been applying here and there over the past few months. Payed a nice gentleman who was a retired underwriter to revamp my resume last year as well. Few interviews but not many. The thought of working for myself lights a fire in me like nothing else tho. I'll keep grinding it out and throwing stuff against the wall till something sticks.
Sounds like a job I had once at a Paper meal , It was the only Paper meal in the region with an unlimited virgin tree permit. You could basically wright your own paycheck , work as much as you want inside of 16 hour days 7 days a week, rotating 1st ,2nd , 3rd shift it was true shift work .
Started out making 60+ , after a few years six figures was a real possibility if you were willing to spend your life working with basically no free time.
If I had to describe the place , I would say it was a dangerous blistering hot life sucking abyss , and any one who worked there aged at a pace of 4 to 1.
but I dunno maybe you need a vacation.
Most people would be going through knee pads weekly for a 6 figure income. Suck it up butter cup. Go in fuck everyone do what you have to and go home.
Well if I may quote Ricky you have "responsibles". Now if you think you can make a go of it in your side gig and still take care of your family then go for it. But if you cannot and your family depends on you I would suggest holding off on walking away from a 6 figure income.

Just because they’ve given up on their dreams and settled for their lives doesn’t mean you have to. If you’re driven and ambitious enough, the sky is the limit. You just need to find the right avenue that works for you. A job that requires you to work that many hours is nothing but a trap to keep you from reaching your true potential.
If you're not advancing or being promoted every 3 years your wasting your life. Move on and better yourself, or let every day be exactly the same for the rest of your life.
I'm just following up on your post Ace as I completely agree. If you're not happy at your job you move on. If you wake up in the morning and dread going to work, there's your sign.

That's what I'm talking about fuck that job it sounds just like mine I want to do the same thing and do my own business the thing about my work is not many people know how to do it and I can venture out and start my own company and make crazy amount of money but I'm not sure if I want to keep doing what I'm doing even though a guy my age started the same kind of company 2 years ago and he now has employees to do the work he just sits back at home or shows up on the job randomly to see how work is going
Starting and running a business takes a very dedicated person and understanding family. I just started one recently. You don't just clock out from your own business. It's all on you and your family must understand from the get go. You get no vacation or paid holidays.
It can be very rewarding but is still stressful as all fuck. And don't get me started on waiting for someone to pay you your money you've earned. Currently I'm Waiting on a 5k check from October.
Last but not least don't forget about Uncle Sam. He still wants his money too. Good luck
I have been self employed for all but my first couple years. If anyone thinks being your own boss isn't stressful... lol, you have a rude awakening in store. And I really do not care the discipline you have to be in charge of you and everyone else. It has its pro's but certainly plenty of cons as well.
Exactly. I have no employees and not sure I'll ever have any because I'm stressed enough about making my shit work. And yeah it has its pros too. Maybe in a few years I'll look back and laugh but for now back to work.

I work any where from 48 to 84 hours a week.....day shift, night shift, weekends, birthdays and holidays you name it. But I knew that going in and that's not what bothers me the most.
Yard and grounds maintenance so to speak. I have roughly 100k wrapped up in it and have not decided yet if I'm going to grow, stay the same level or go back to it being a side hustle.

I make ok money but I feel I’m always working, the company acts like I’m married to the damn job. I need something with less hours soon, been doing this for 17 yrs and haven’t enjoyed life like I should since . It’s sucking the soul outta me too brother. Wish you the best

Thanks for all the feedback, support and advice everyone. Warms my little heart for real. I'm not quitting today or even next week or month. I just know Internally the negative impact has started to outweigh the pay. And I love hearing inspiring stories from those that have gone out on their own.
I will be taking some vacation time in the late spring and then throughout the year.
I do have a 401k but stocks have been way down for our market and its not doing all that great at the moment
I do have some investment money and have been researching alot.of different things that appeal to me and my family
Molinin302Sam had great advice with a vacation, all jobs wear on you after time, BUT, it beats the alternative. No job, no pay, lose everything you've worked for. You'll be ok man, you need a breather.
Think it through man- your making good money and im not sure if your job has retirement package or insurance..
Ive seen people start at my job and leave and when i see them out they tell me to STAY at the job im at....
The new guys, plus the bosses all suck there right when there wrong. Ive been shacking this shit off for over 20 years yup at the same place. They can trying screwing with me all day that im on the time clock. But once its that time aday i hit the time clock and burn rubber out of that parking lot. To HOME where my life really starts. They can screw with me all day , everyday and threaten to write me upfor nothing. But at the end of the day im STILL TAKING THERE BIG MONEY... and believe me its a good chunk of change with retirement and benefits at the end of it all. I can’t do assembly line work even for 30$ an hour man, I work fast food and fix houses ... steady check from fast food for probation and gobs of money from fixing houses ... works well....
Mine is slowly evolving in to full time work... I kind of like it.

Unless you’ve got a degree or special training your not going to replace a 100k job.
