Seriously guys, what is this world coming to when texting is the prefered way to communicate ?

ad

Im sorry you can just call me a dinosaur or old fashioned, but to me if I have something important to say, I want to call (on a good quality land line), see the person eye to eye, or write a propper letter.

I understand quick communication via text is great , but Im hearing people say they break up with a BF/GF via text, they quit a job via text, or reach out to someone who is mad at them via text.

It just seems shallow ,empty and cowardly and the truth is I am disgusted by it.

Please , if it is something of even mild importance isnt it worth more than a text ?

I hate that!! Also... People that wait to call someone after they get in the car with you.. Wtf? I don't want to hear your convo!!

I'm pretty antisocial so I love texting but I do agree that the important shit deserves face to face time or a phone call

I don't date because I'm married but I hear this all the time about how people will go on dates and not put their phone down. When I take my wife out I don't pull my phone out because I try to focus all my attention on her. You would think that would be priority on the first few dates.... Right!

I agree I think it is rude to be with some one and spend the entire time texting etc .... I just think if you are spending time with someone the focus shouldn't be on other people

I have personally broken up with a man via text. I sent him a text that said "Hey this really isn't working out" He said "Ummm really, OK" it was great. Shallow? Coward? No I wouldn't say so..I thought it was the nicest way to do it.. and I didn't want to crush his soul by having to tell him he sucked in bed.. I call into work via text and I update my boss weekly on my progress via email. I've only personally seen him twice in six months, I am happy with that. As for friends, they know to text I don't have time to talk on the phone. I have work, kids, gym, house, cooking and cleaning to get done. Have you ever tried to talk on the phone with a 6 month old gabbing, 11 year old saying mom watch this, boyfriend saying what's for dinner and the cat asking for food at your feet? It's impossiable. If I didn't have text some people I would never get to communitcate with.

Nothing to be sorry for sir.. It's a great life to live.. It's busy.. but I still sit down for dinner every night. My child doesn't eat fast food everyday. I'm just saying, I don't really have time to hold a convo with someone. Now if it's something that would be sensitive (death, birth, divorce) I make sure I respect the other person and call. I wouldn't trade my crazy beautiful life for anything!

I agree I thought that was why we got cell phones and shit canned the pagers

Oh definitely, once I hitched a lift to campus with acquaintance who was texting and driving, he almost killed a little girl. We alerted him literally in the nick of time, the car even bumped her softly! Very traumatic

It's easier. Most ppl I have no desire to speak to on the phone. Ppl don't even bother calling anymore. They know I don't answer so they text instead.

I'm just anti social. :-)

you put on such a tough guy act ...lol.. call me

IM sexting can improve your yield 150%, you can't chat up more than 1 girl over the landline

I prefer to communicate with my ex via text regarding the visitation scheduling for my kids... I will discuss important issues via phone and face to face when necessary but I don't want to talk to him anymore than he wants to talk to me and so texting is a wonderful thing ...

anything of importance should be done the old fashioned way. face to face. maybe a phone call. I personally love text cuz I hate talking on the phone.

He never checks those damn things...he hates texting!!

Every time I see someone text I envision Samuel Morse muttering to himself, "If only I could get this to work by talking".

Followed by Alexander Graham Bell wistfully musing with Watson over a glass of sherry, "Well Tom, we did it, no one will ever need or want to text again."

Agree 100%. Texting is so impersonal, you cannot identify the tone of the message or sarcasm or anything to that extent, texting is also causing our youth to not be able to converse face to face, its actually quite sad.

Last year me and my gf both still bad blackberries, we ended up deleting each other off bbm as we caught ourselves communicating through that wayyyyy too much, we rarely ever text anymore either and its a hell of a lot better. We also got rid of facebook a few years back, but that BS is a whole other topic......,

I only text people I can't stand to talk to LOL!!.. or if i'm short on time.. Pretty pathetic to dump someone or quit a job through text.. no backbone there

I text maybe 5-10 messages a day tops, but yes important things merit voice-voice.
But yes this young generation who cant so much as look up from their stupid smart phone for 3 seconds to make decent human eye contact when you pass them in the hallway is just pathetic.
If you want to see where technology is taking us than view the movie "Idiocracy".
Its alarming how much more people are like the characters in that movie now than compared to when it came out.

I do text message but if i ever have a important issue it is solved face to face or like you said over the phone and your right people use texts as a escape for having to face a problem. I just use them for ease
