Real life

ad

The last 40 days has been a roller coaster. Had a job that allowed me to train pretty much when I needed then I go into work and BOOM your not needed any longer, took a couple weeks landed a great job not as much as I was making before but it was more than enough. But reality of it sank in working 5 days a week from 7am to 8 pm has played hell on my gym time trying to figure out how I will manage getting enough time in the gym and balancing rest

Good shit man. Where there's a will there's always a way.

What kind of equipment do you have in the home gym? I live in a condo so that certainly muddies things a bit, even though I guess i do technically have the space in the second bedroom/office/den, but would love to know what you find essential in a home gym and how it's all worked out for you.

I may have to look into this as a supplement due to my schedule for the foreseeable future... appreciate it Murph.

Thats a great value! I may throw one of those in my sub basement. Good shit.

Wow all that for 157 bucks. thats a hell of a deal. I got a pretty decent home gym but I want that now to replace some of my older stuff. It's nice having tjr home gym when working long days. I get home at 7pm sometimes and don't feel like goijg back out and going to the gym but I don't mind walking a few steps into my home gym and I can do a good chest/delt/arm/back workout. Only thing I can't do is legs besides extensions

Couldn't agree more about the home gym.

Live up to your name... a junkie would be up a 5am to get his gym fix before work.

Gymjunkie01's picture

That's the problem I get up at 5 am to get to leave to get there on time. Cause my gym closes at 10pm so I'm really thinking about as much as I hate to admit this or even mutter these words go to planet fitness cause there's next door to my work

I've been considering switching to a planet fitness myself as there's one about 10mins by foot from my house, open 24 hours on 4 of the weekdays... I recommend you scope it out and pay them a visit before hand to figure out the do's and don'ts as their target clientele are very sensitive... which would probably not be an issue if you're going in there on nightly hours or the far end of the off peak schedule...

They're dumbbells do not go up past 65lbs from what I understand, so that's probably going to be an issue for you.

Gotta do what you gotta do man! ...doesn't matter what the sign on the door says, a 45 lb plate weighs the same anywhere you go....walk in put your ear buds in and own that shit!

I totally feel ya, brother. I try to tell myself, although things like this suck they are what molds your character and forces you to evolve. in the end, you win. I think there are too many soft people in our culture, not enough exposure to struggle.

Life can be brutal. It'll take time, but you'll adjust. Maybe you had it too easy before, so now your mettle is tested. Good luck to you.

Gymjunkie01's picture

There is no doubt I had it easy lol

Yah that mite be a big time saver for sure!..

Break yourself of it. The limitation is in your mind. If you really wanted to do it, you would find a way. Is it a chore or a passion?

Put pamphlets out in letterboxes, adds in paper and on notice boards and personal train people bro- get paid for what your good at!

Gymjunkie01's picture

Not sure how much u get paid doing it over there ive heard from other americans on here not heaps, i was getting $1.50 a minute in 2014 up untill i broke my legs now im back to tattooing, group boot camps are good what i done was sign up 20 at a time and charge them $250 each up front for ten 1 hour sessions, 2 a week at 6am, thats 5 grand, i know your a strong man/ power lifter so you could incorparate that somehow- the beauty is with the pay up front some dont even turn up so less ppl, i just pay local council for a permit to use the park and that includes liability but i also have 5 million for public liability wich i got 3 years included when i done my diploma in fitness.

From what i've researched it really varies widely across the board in terms of pay. There are some pretty successful people who have established themselves easily bringing in north of 100k per year. I have a relative who works as a fitness trainer for celebrities in the area and makes somewhere around there, but it has taken him close to a decade to get there.

GJ being the fucking beast he is could definitely hone in on the strongman/PL market as you said, and it being a niche market would certainly allow a slight premium over other trainers. I do like the pay structure you set up where it's an upfront fee, as it forces people to commit to the sessions, allowing them to gain more out of the actual training and once they go through the sessions and start seeing results start becoming repeat costumers.

05cummins's picture

there are so companies around me where there insurance is significantly lowered because they provide proof they exercise and are willing to take physicals every few months to prove good health and habits it might help you since you would be a trainer and make insurance way easily affordable for you! Some insurances even pay for gym memberships and towards nutritional supplements. Might be a long shot worth a look for you maybe?

I know I'm younger and haven't put the years in like most here but I definitely know what you mean I work 5am to 5pm if I skip lunch I weld for a living so I always feel dehydrated so staying hydrated is a fight itself with the heat. Plus I'm a bigger young guy so I have the poop jobs where I have to lift everything by hand no matter how big I just have to get more guys haha. You will get into it I promise after a while the short nights of sleep aren't so bad and magically you will clear your schedule telling everyone you are busy 4-5 nights a week to sneak to the gym I hope you the best and stay large my friend!
