+ 3 Planet Fitness.....

ad

well I have been looking for a new gym for a week now since I was notified that my current gym would be closing and getting demolished for a housing complex getting built. so starts my search in the area for a new gym, after several visits to a few local gyms I stopped into a gym beside where I work "planet fitness" I went in and asked a few questions the girl gave me a tour and when I told her I was interested in joining there her manager came out and spoke with me. a rather large woman with a large ass came waddiling out from behind the counter and said and I quote" thank you for stopping out but I hope you don't take offense but we discourage people like you from joing here because we feel it intimidates our members" ??? I was puzzeled... I said how do I intimidate your members? she replied we cater to normal people . I said oh you mean normal people by the ones that our out of shape and never show any type of progress because you have bowels of candy at the desk for them and on Thursdays you give away free pizza? she smiled and said we are a judgment free zone.. I laughed and told here "yeah If I was you I would not judge anyone by the looks of you" I walked out. not everyone has to be MR or MRS fitness but damn if your going to a gym at least make a effort to change your life style and get healthy looks like planet fitness is a joke .. ok im done ive ranted for the day..

Yeah I'm a member there. I'm not in love with it(it's a corporate gym, after all), but it's $10/month and one of my favorite colors is purple. I will say though, that at the location I use, almost all the workers there are fit. You really can't beat that price, but they are definitely lacking in some areas in terms of equipment availability. And yeah, once a month they give out free pizza, which is both mind-blowing and diabolical at the same time.

strongman480's picture

"The judgement free zone" that judges people like us. doesn't that cancel each other out and make them pricks? lol

NoWeakAces's picture

They don't do this at your gym?

sic26's picture

Guess they want there customer to stay fat and come again that's the way I see it

Where do I sign!

I had never heard of the lunk alarm until reading this. Had to watch the you tube videos to believe it. I'm not big by any means but I do grunt a bit when trying to get that last rep or two in. And I have a bit of a short fuse. I would get kicked out with a quickness. That thing is ridiculous

Greg's picture

At my age I grunt just getting off of the couch.

dandog's picture

Bhahahahahahaaha! LMFAO! Funny shit and trust me, I understand.

Love this place! (Sarcastic) Three years ago I was in Austin on business and there was one of these down the street from where I was staying, so I got a month. They have a buzzer they sound if you drop weights or grunt too hard! Needless to say, I didn't make it! Lol

dandog's picture

I just can't stop laughing reading about this buzzer alarm thing. It didn't help I was drinking some milk at the time of laughing. What a mess. LOL

Ya I bypassed them fuckers too.I called them and asked how much it would cost to workout for a little bit. They said 20 dollars!! I told the bitch there is no gym nice enough to charge somebody 20 dollars to workout for a hour and a half. She said we'll apply the 20 to your acct if your join. I told her to get fucked and i hung up. I have to drive by PF to get to my gym and I can never keep myself from giving them the finger.

man this story rustled my jimmies

who does that fat bish think she is? i would take legal action

Greg's picture

What did she mean by, "people like you". Are you of color? A tatted up arian Neo-Nazi? Amish? A civil rights attorney?

I would go back there and tell her in no uncertain terms that you'll become the Rosa Parks of muscle bound meatheads everywhere if she does not give you a membership.

Then, become the ambassador of muscle bound meatheads by not being that stereotype.

Oh, and my 2 bits... A gym is what you make of it.

I'm a bit weary of all these elitist comments dissing one franchise gym or another. If it gets people out of the house and on the path to wellness than that's a good thing in my book. Everyone is not looking to be like you. They might have very modest goals. And if you're so bent out of shape over the damn pizza, don't f@ckin' eat it!

dandog's picture

Exactly! I've never seen a dental office that gives out candies.

Greg's picture

I'm sure you weren't, and it's unfortunate that they judged you.

And to clarify, my 2 bits were not directed at you entirely.

We are an example and they should want ud there.

Ya you are right, people should get motivated by seeing fit people.

Catalyst's picture

So to clarify this is a large chain of gyms that doesn't allow people in good shape to join as it puts their porky members off the pizza they serve? That's a really interesting piece of branding for a fitness business!

What a shame we don't have them in the uk.....

You may be onto something...My barber has beer and wine available while you wait.
The best combo (when I was in college) was the local gym that had a laundromat attached.

i go to a local planet fitness once in a while in the evenings. i dont mind it, seems after dark its a completely different crowd of younger more fit and in shape ppl. although me and my buddy i lift with definitely stand out its not bad, but in the early morning till about 6pm its old fat ppl eating bagels, pizza, tootsie rolls and breathing like they are going to die after 9 minute brisk cardio routine. i stay away when the sun is shining lol

bigjrock's picture

Man I love golden corrale.

I could go on and on about this place. There is one about a mile from my house, and right next to my office, so I joined primarily out of convenience. Stayed the one year that I was contracted and HAD to leave. (And the price was good if you are looking for no amenities.)

Where do I start?
- They tend to be really small gyms, with local franchises. So your mileage may vary. But imagine a gym with one toilet in the mens locker room and two showers.
- They also have limited equipment, and dumbells that only go to 80 pounds. I am not a monster, but this doesn't cut it for me.
- I work out with a trainer at his facility on Saturday and he preps workouts for me for the week. I cannot tell you how many times I walked into the place at 7am, and realized quickly that I was not going to get the intended workout done. The main reason for this (in addition to the lack of equipment) is that their members tend to work out in groups. Of three, four or more. And hog the equipment, You ask if you can work in and they look at you like you are breaking up their party.
-The clientele seems not to know what they are doing. It hurt my eyes to watch these people lifting. The trainer is your friend folks. They were totally clueless. There were two women, both morbidly obese who 'worked out' every morning. Spending prob 30 minutes on ab machines. Then would hit the bagel table...eat one, and take two to go.

I bolted and haven't looked back.

Doss's picture

Luckily they don't act stupid like that here. They catch me on the right day and I'm apt to make a scene for real

Doss's picture

Hopped on the tren train recently, and let me tell you: I am a-whole-nother caliber of asshole! I thought NPP made me irritable, tren makes me a straight dick with a short fuse.

I'm actually about to head to PF shortly. Maybe I'll try to set off the "lunk alarm".

GRIMEY's picture

well I dont think we have Planet Fitness in Canada and Im glad, I guess al stories I have heard and the infamous "lunk alarm" are actually true.

You would think the larger people that are new at the gym would be inspired and driven by being around the more fit and in shape people at gyms, I know I sure as hell was.

Sounds like that place is just another example of the pussification of society like have no winners or losers and no such thing as a "wrong" answer in school and whatnot. Its getting pathetic really.

GRIMEY's picture

Exactly, pussy footing and sugar coating doesnt get anyone anywhere. For instance when children are clearly obese yet their parents insist on blowing smoke up their asses and telling them they arent fat. They arent doing any help, Im not saying to tell the kid he is a lard ass, but encourage fitness, change the foot he eats, be active WITH the damn kid ffs!!!!

Pale's picture

You know, isn't it discriminatory to tell us that we are not welcome there?

bigjrock's picture

Ya planet fitness sucks ass. They have that stupid alarm and you cant bring a gallon of water in there either. And you are right its a gym to cater to fat people. They are trying to make a comfortable atmosphere for obese people. Its not a place for you or I.

dandog's picture

Alarm? I saw the comment above about grunting too loud and the alarm would go off but thought it was a joke. Is that true?

bigjrock's picture

It is true. If you drop the weights they sound the alarm on you. And not throwing them im just saying letting them go from a little bit off the ground. Last week I went in there because my friend wanted a ride to the gym so I went with him. I was doing deadlifts on the smith machine have. I put 5 plates on each side and an employee comes over and is sitting there staring at me. He says I have exceeded the weight limit. I thought you goto the gym to make progress. Not lift 20 pounds for the rest of my life

dandog's picture

Holy Hell! That seriously boggles the mind.
