I'm a ex opiate addict myself, without bodybuilding I never would have changed my life. There's so many of us here bro it seems like everyday I find out another eroider is former addict.

Yeah I tried to delete my comment before people read it... now you guys know my dark secret.. now I have nothing to hide.. i thought it might make people look down on my again bro... and that enrages me.... I'm happy we are all recovered bro... bodybuilding is a life saving sport IMO, so much good and change in it...

I'm a recovering addict myself, and nobody should be ashamed of it. Its not who we are, its just what we did. I tell people openly that I'm an addict, for them to see what I use to be like to the way I am today it amazes people. I was a junkie, and I'll always be an addict, but today I choose life over the drugs. Like iron said, the gym saved my life, lifting is my addiction now. and I fckn love it

Champion Of The Mind's picture

That's really good to know dude... Alot of people find serenity within the walls of a gym. I've always loved bodybuilding.. I use to have the flex magazines growing up 10 years old.. I always thought man that is awesome, thats what I want to do, and at that same point in time; I was a kid and by time I hit 13 I was in trouble with the law and a drug additive. I ended up spending time in juvenile hall and worked my way up to jail. By time I was 17-18 my life was so fucked, no moral compass, no goals, no nothing... time to get high and rock n roll... that went on for severals years until my grandmother passed away. My mother abandon me and my grandmother raised me, so to me my mother died... and that instant in time, I looked at my life and I look at the person she knew before passing away, and I said to myself; you're a piece of shit and it's time to make something of myself, my first thought went back to that flex magazine and bodybuilding... to me; this was God's way of saying.. let's get to work; it's time you became that guy on the magazine and since then bro I have not looked back... I have something to prove, I have everything to prove.. and I want it worst than ANYBODY. I might get knocked down here and there but damn it.. I come running back.

Yea bro I had a past like yours. I've overdosed on pills before, been to jail so many times I can't count on my hands n toes. Thought i was a badass selling drugs and never thought I had a problem cause I could afford them until I became my best customer. Then i found out what physical withdraw was and life got real miserable. Finally decided I was tired of hurting the people that cared for me. Was sick of having no will to live since I thought God handed me a shit life. Man I couldn't of been more wrong, life is pretty cool without being faded all the time.my body is healthy,my mind is clear, and I got back a lot of people that walked away from me for being the way I was. Now man the gym is my outlet, I hit the iron and get a natural high every time and I feel great the rest of the day. Idk how I would be if I wouldn't of taken up lifting as serious as I have. I go to NA and AA meetings too but the gym keeps me sane from all the dumb shit life throws at ya

There's no greater feeling than going to war and winning. HMU if you need me bro... always happy to help people.

Pale's picture

Yea, I should have been a bit more sympathetic in my post. I just never thought that of him. Dave was a very smart dude, it happens...

Champion Of The Mind's picture

He was really smart, those damn drugs are so evil bro, they sink their damn hooks into you and it becomes a fight for your life... and sadly a lot of us don't make it... I'm happy God stepped into myself and put me on this road.. I have a passion that will never burn out brother... I know where I came from and I know where i'm going.

irongame427's picture

Oh I'm not the least bit offended bro don't sweat it. But part of the reason I don't really tell people is the fact people assum were all the same. Where definitely all addicts but not all of us are junkies.

Pale's picture

I agree man. I have used opiates my entire adult life, for some reason I have never abused them. I have been very fortunate to be able to have sampled many drugs but never got hooked. I am truly blessed. I imagine everyone starts out with just a little curiosity...

irongame427's picture

It's a miserable existence, and that's basically all you do is exist, nothing more. First got hooked when I was 17 back in 2006. It was before it became such a huge epidemic, so I had no idea I was messing with arguably the most addictive substance known to man. It wasn't talked about, we were warned about heroin crack and stuff like tjat and they would just generalize prescription pills into one category. In sure in schools these days they talk specifically about oxycodone, Xanax, but it just wasn't a problem like it is now, I was very young and naive back then. Still no one to blame but myself, but I had no idea how powerful and addictive it was and faster then you can imagine your hooked. Thank god for bodybuilding tho, my life changed when I started lifting weights. Gave me something else to focus my addictive personality on.

Hell yea bro..I hear ya
