Gym Etiquette

ad

Alright fellas would like to kick off a convo about the unwritten rules of the gym. Whats the biggest things that drives you crazy that people do at the gym. Mines not putting the dumbbell with the corresponding number.

I hate the guys who try and commadeer 2 or 3 pieces of equipment at once for themselves, you know the guys, they'll be on one set up and when you walk up to another one (they try) to tell you they are using that set up also... uhmm... no you're not

Catalyst's picture

"I'm using that".

"Not anymore you're not".

Simple and effective.

Pale's picture

It helps that I am the big fish in a little pond if you will. They don't ever give me the "but hey I was using that",lol

I have lost my shit a few times at people when they get all annoyed when I ask them to put their weights away (yes I do actually ask them to, and no I don't own a gym). Then they get cranky and tell me how they pay membership fees so they can leave whatever they like wherever they like. That's when I alert them to the fact that they aren't the only ones who pay membership fees and also ask them home they like it when plates/Dumbbells and the like aren't where they are supposed to be when they are looking for them. Shuts them up fairly quickly.

Guys who wear any of the following:

-gloves

-lycra pants/ tights

-toe shoes (I want to drop a fucking plate on your ugly ass shoes)

And always finding the dumbbells in the wrong place, if you can't count by fives, please kill yourself

Seen guy the other day Idk what the fuck was going on but he was just sitting there on a piece of equipment talking to a guy beside him. One get a up and moves other follows and they sit on 2 more pieces of equipment and talk again. After seeing this like 3 times I was just hot as hell and mad the ole tren was kicking. So I said something nice to them so they said they where leaving anyways and going to hardees and would be back. I just about shit my pants. I guess they went to get back up.

Dudes taking selfies in the mirror on the gym floor... Or dudes taking pictures of other dudes... Leaving Dumbbells laying around... Having to walk up stairs to the locker room on leg day... Jonny Bravo upper body and Steve Urkle legs.

I'm full of hate sometimes in the gym. Just the sight of this kid the other day using wrist straps while doing single arm dumbell rows with a 20kg dumbell had me super pissed off. It wasn't the weight, i mean everyone has to start somewhere, it's the fucking wrist straps lol.

I do actually try tell myself not to be bothered by others but it's impossible sometimes. Don't know what's up with me sometimes, nothing else in any other part of life bothers me in the slightest.

An example of a shit personal trainer i watched who was instructing a newb.
He had him doing 70kg squats, which he could barely do, straining and struggling through every rep, way too much weight. But the fucked up part was straight after every squat set he had him doing lunges with the same 70kg, i was like if he can't do squats at that weight with both legs at his disposal htf do you expect him to manage that weight on a single leg, not to mention the balance needed to perform it strictly.

Just an example of another pt kid who doesn't even lift trying to train up others. I'd rather pay a gym vet my cash than most of the pt's I've seen in recent years.

People using equipment for any unintended purpose. It's always folks that look like they don't lift, but trying to impress others with their psychotic routine.
The other day, I saw Two idiots were using the hammer shoulder press machine for shrugs. They were standing on the seat and doing shrugs!?! It got me thinking, Maybe I'm just using all the machines incorrectly and have for years....

Drop-set's picture

The newb doing his set right in front of the weight rack. Get the fuck out of the way.

+1 about f-tards jacking with their phone averaging a set every 15mins!!!..just stay home!!!...using the squat rack for barbell curls and leg press only for calves and sitting on it in between sets f'ing with their phone!!!

ashop's picture

There are so many annoying things I truly don't where to begin. I would say the guy/gal who takes up a piece of equipment and then decides to text or make calls from it. I had a video a few years back of a guy in my gym SLEEPING on the calf raise machine.

JL's picture

Moving the benches around and not putting them back when you're done!

Not wiping your sweat off the equipment!

Chatting with your buddies in the middle of the damn gym and hogging up the equipment while I'm trying to lift. Get the fk out and go socialize some where else.

150 lbs kids asking me what kind of supplements I take. When I tell them to try FOOD and they give me this disgusted look.

Oh man I could keep going and going.

yeahbrah's picture

People talking on the phone. I mean if you have an important call you need to take, by all means, but dont do it at the equipment, blocking others from using it, while you argue with your girl about whatever the fuck it is you argue about

Well since the summer is coming the heat...the two 4 foot circular fans help and so does the vent fan...its free so no complaints on that...

VagBlister9000's picture

when the god damned 20 lb barbell is in the 100 lb brbell spot. the 80 is on the 30, the 30 is on the 50, and I see some stupid blonde put the 90 on the top shelf.

jimmie's picture

Women being there. That's not the muscle I'm trying to work at that moment.

In all seriousness, I know it's incredibly rude to stare at anyone in the gym....but they make that very difficult.

Whitetrash's picture

Cross fitters flopping around like a fish and telling me it's a pull up. That pointless movement is everything a pull up is supposed to be, only with all the effective parts removed.

Pale's picture

The guy totally rocking out while he lifts! Oh, wait, that is me,lol

jimmie's picture

Air drums between sets isn't cool???

Pale's picture

Air drums, guitar, bass and keys bro!

shiva4's picture

when people try to talk to you in the middle.of your set, especially when you don't even know them.

dudebro's picture

A bunch of guys gathering around a piece of equipment for about a half hour, doing a set here and there and just talking. If there's 4 or more guys training together they're never really training.

Mitch77's picture

what I hate the most that some pricks have nerves to start asking questions while I'm training. Just let me finish the set and then ask!

  • Sweating over the equipment and not wiping it down.

  • Doing more stretching than lifting. Applies mostly to skinny fucks that are embarrassed. Stretching doesn't mask how scrawny you are.

  • Circuit training at peak hours. I almost smacked a dude yesterday regarding this. I settled on some choice words.

  • Bros that stink like shit, with matted down oily hair. You didnt have to hold out all week to shower after this gym session.

  • Bros that wear their girlfriends/wife's tanning lotion. Buy some manly smelling stuff.

Ambsoph's picture

Oh I've got a few. For me it is people coming into the weight room and doing weirdo shit like, walking on their hands, hula hooping, jump roping right in front of the dumbbell rack and about hitting everyone. But when you are at a "public" gym this is gonna happen I guess. Smh

cdyrdes's picture

Honestly man I've learned to just block all that shit out these days, for me it's way more productive go in bang out my routine and just roll the hell out. Headphones on music up and slinging weight
