Getting a job with a record

ad

I've been searching and searching and going to interviews only to be told that they later chose somebody else to fill in the position. This is after a court case involving possession. Nothing major because it was my first offense so they just made me do a DNA sample and drug diversion then poof it's off my record but that won't happen till December. Have any of you found luck getting employed with a record? It sucks shit man I feel fucked over..

THANK YOU
THANK YOU
THANK YOU

For pointing out the fact that we are creating a MASSIVE population of disenfrachised people with NO hope of any kind of affluent life....and for the people who say "fuckem"... just remember, those same desperate people WILL be coming for your shit.. by force or otherwise, and they are quickly going to outnumber you.
No amount of prisons (which we cant fund) or gun control (meaningless) will stop them.
We are ruining people lives over a weed that's legal in several states now (just as an example).

My point is, there are so many people now who commit a minor offense and then cannot get a job.
I'll do almost anything before I satrve to death or let my children go hungry, anf that includes taking by FORCE the shit of the yuppies who contributed to this bullshit.

The only luck brother I ever had was lying and saying I never been convicted of anything and hope they bluff on the background check. Most of the time they do!

I have a record long as all hell state and fed. Violent career criminal, gang affiliated ,I turned my life around. I make over 20 dollars an hour my checks are over a thousand a week and I was high school drop out. Point being anything is possible bro a minor possession charge is nothing. People can tell if you want to better your life and put in the work. You have one chance to make a first impression and only one. Preferably I like to talk to them on the phone first as I'm pretty smooth and smart so then when they see me they don't just blow me off. Good luck and keep your head held high. You are your worst enemy in this.

Time and material I bump up material. Some jobs I charge more for. Some side jobs I make more as I'm licensed also. Just can't count on good help for long. Majority is tax free.

fully agree, i walk around with a tank top on with tattoos i get shunned by main stream society, wear a suit and tie its a different world, when i go to court i wear a suit and reading glasses, i believe it gives me a better chance honestly.

also op, dont be afraid to do a weeks work free- work your arse off and make sure your friendly with everyone, sucking up is a good thing- alot of times if you show your a good worker, do your job and are responsible, they dont care about your past, rock up 15 minutes early each day and stay back as long as needed, you should be fine- always use eye contact, smile and shake hands when greeting.

good luck

I agree. It shows respect to the perspective employer and it show that you have respect in yourself as well.
I had a guy who showed up to an interview with me, in a t-shirt and shorts! Shorts!!!

yeah, lying is your best friend, dont disclose that you have a record, if they insist on a clearance then a scanner is your best friend, simply upload it onto your computer and back space your convictions, thats what i do.

I feel you on this one as I was in a much more dire situation legally 10 years ago.
My advice is to find a small company where you can work your way up into higher positions.
Get in on the ground floor (shipping/recieving/ order picking) bust your ass everyday, work the OT, and be courteous to EVERYONE you come across at work. (I know that's probably the hardest part.) I promise you if you put in the effort people will notice you and consider you for entry level management, sales roles, or operations roles that may come up. It's worked for me twice, and it can work for you too! Just buy my book!! J/K

Good luck, put your head down and start grinding son.

Try a union apprenticeship. Lots to choose from..iron workers..etc

treadgold's picture

Iron workers make a decent wage an hour as a journeyman. Iron workers in my area make 30+ an hour...but..there are other union trades to choose from as well..some make more.

Hard labor, tree sevices, construction, no big corp is going to give you the go bro. Stay clean an sell yourself that your a hard worker and will prove yourself

Don't disclose your issue. Lie. If they actually do run your background claim that it was supposed to be taken off already. You will already have the job and then explain to your employer that your attorney is on it and said he will have it cleared up by December.

I agree with @damnwhodat. I have a record as well and I've still been able to find jobs but it's always been word of mouth...a reference from a friend. Let's be honest, just about every damn person who has gotten any kind of significant job has done so by knowing someone who put a word in for them

The state that I live in when you're convicted of a felony they take a DNA sample and run you through the system. You ever watch Forensic Files that's how a lot of idiots nowadays are getting caught up for the shit they've done in the past.

BlackSam's picture

Off subject a little...They're gettin nasty now and a lot of countries are starting to incorporate a system where you passport links to their systems so your record will even show when you go to countries half way around the world...so check your shit before you fly fellas!

Without being indiscreet, it would actually be a big help to know how serious this record is. I had drug felonies for slingin shit about 15 years ago and I managed to get around it when looking for a job mostly by being upfront with them. If you hide it and they find it...fucked. But if your offense is not much worse than mine, and depending on how old it is, then you should still have options

It took 7yrs

Yeah it's super hard. Just be honest. Hit all the job boards, Craigslist, even just go to a temp agency for anything. Good luck
