For optimum results, just how lean do we need to stay while bulking.
It seems to me that a lot of us in this community really care about "lean bulking" and avoiding fat and water while on cycle. Is this because most don't compete in bodybuilding contest and r cycling to look good while on? I would really like to hear some opinions from some of the competitive bodybuilders and just really big guys about lean bulking versus traditional bulking. I understand the importance of keeping estrogen somewhat in check, but I also know that the more water we hold while on cycle, the more biomechanical advantage we have which means we can lift heavier weights. I don't think there is a pro that i haven't seen get moon faced, bloated, and just big as f$ck while bulking. I don't care about how I look while I am on my bulking cycle, I only care about how I will look while on stage next spring. I personally feel that there is so much more muscle to be built if I don't care so much about how I look while on cycle.

Your right bro.. Get as big as you can during off season. Then diet and cut it off later.. You will gain much much more mass and size that way. That's why pros do it. Off season is off season for a season. Lift big get big.. Who cares what you look like thru the winter months
As a competitor i would use the british method of bulking which means getting absolutely massive off season eating everything in sight purely for massive size and strength gain,in my thirties bulking hard off season gave me strech marks on upper pecs and delt areas also got some on outer quads through getting big really fast through mega cals and heavy compounds... cutting would be a 16/18 week affair with the complete opposite tactics i.e drastic diet and carb drop using a multiple of cutting compounds tren/mast/halo etc mainly androgens with a real low test base just to keep the libido ticking over, most british BBs i know still run this way bro... i think all this talk about clean all year is just for the beach boys and models lol... give me the old school tactics everytime THEY WORK FOR ME lol..lol
i second that! but i have those stretch marks too now which kinda suck :/
If you're dirty mass all out bulk you will add fat and bloat to a ceryain point. I got great gains going from cut to soft belly. Lean bulk is what i'm doing for this ebc because i should have been lean when i began. I dirty bulk Hella fast. Yes most stage bound guys hit higher bf//water off season. Food control helps tons obviously for end results and how much fat you end up with.
Edit: most of my advice and the advice of others we push for lower bodyfat. In these forums everyday is the "magic pill" crowd. Not working out or just started. Poor diet. Obese. Or the tall beanpoles who need caloroes to grow. So it's a disservice to the public IMO to post competitive advice to newbs.
Increases in BF% and water retention increase the chances of sides. So in order to minimise sides we consistently analysing water levels, BF% and as a bonus, if you like, we look lean throughout our cycle.
I agree, the water retention and the extra fat does provide us with an advantage in the gym with the increase in weight, however, the correlation between high BF% and water retention, thus performance in the gym VS. sides is a no brainer
I understand keeping sides in check brother, it is possible to keep sides in check and stil let the waist go a bit and bloat up. I am only concerned with putting on as much muscle as possible during my bulk so I can look good in 6 months rather than the the quick gratification of looking good today.
