Equipment Brand Question

ad

Hi Guys. Im looking at adding a cable crossover to my home gym. NOT a functional trainer. I want a real crossover so I get full stretch and max resistance at peak contraction. ( with functional trainers, because of the narrow weight stacks and pulleys, you have to take a step forward when doing flys. This means when your arms are in front of you and you should be getting a hard squeeze on the pecs, the cables are angled back at the stacks at nearly the same angle, so...reduced resistance.)

With that out of the way, these machines can be pretty big. Im limited by a 92 inch ceiling, so that doesnt allow the York. Im debating on the Clubline Pro from Body Solid; just narrowing the cross member a little to narrow the width, or going with a used King Fitness. Im not familiar with the brand at all. I think its Chinese.

Please share opinions on it. Thanks

Hey Guys...I wound up getting the King Fitness model from ebay. Old unit, companies been out of busineess since 2007, no warranties, but the size was really important. Kind of a bitch getting it off the truck and into mine, then getting it into my basement, but its up and running.I like it a lot. I scored a leg curl and a leg extension from the local college too. They were updating all their stuff, so right place, right time. They said anything you want, $50 bucks a piece. Reupholstered, new cables and some lube and theyre just like new.

Looking forward to getting home for tonights lift.

It's always a good time when lube is involved... "anything you want, 50 dolla" ...Sounds like you met Rusty.

Not the question asked but Wanna throw this out there to warn anyone.. I just bought a Weider Olympic curl bar for my kids from Walmart for like 35 bucks and the damn thing is such a piece of junk that the whole end fell off the first time one of em used it... hope Weider is rolling over in his grave for them using his name not only for years of low quality junk but now it’s useless junk-

And of course Walmart sells crap usually but one would think it would last for a while with kids using light weight...

Hammer Strength or Cybex would be my choice, price will be slightly higher but you get what you pay for

Yea my man I’m with 333 and Robman040 , save tons of money, space, and effort by doing dumbbell flies. Arnold on dumbbell flies- “go down get duh stretch, go up get duh flex” lol gotta read it in his voice

Go to a few high end gyms and check theirs out to get some ideas.
I'm a big HAMMER STRENGTH guy myself.

Hammer strength is my favorite brand equip ment. Plate loaded machines are best!

I've been able to pickup several excellent pieces off gov deals dirt cheap. With your space issues you may have to cut and weld. Its doable..
The body solid does work well. I have a friend who has one. He greases the rods with a gun cleaner rag from Walmart. Its smooth and surprisingly sturdy for the money.

Why not save lots of room and do flys on a bench with dumbells

just Bob's picture

I do, and you get a good stretch. But just like with a functional trainer setup, when the dumbells are directly over you, you should be at peak contraction...but theres almost no resistance.

Don't be so much concerned with getting peak contraction when the dumbbells are above you, I never bring the dumbbells together. By the time my palms are about a foot apart im bringing my hands back for my next rep, I go for keeping continuous tension on the muscles doing this exercise.

The best exercise for peak contraction for chest is the pecdeck imo, if used with the weight light enough it's easy to squeeze the handles together for a few seconds before starting the next rep.

Great advice robb............

Incline D/B flyes under constant tension build the best pecs (for bodybuilders),,,,,,,, i love em and still drag the biggest dustiest ones out that everyone leaves in the corner to rust lol

p.s............. i find really heavy tricep pressdowns on a cable machine tense the pecs up really good for me, using a V shaped bar it hits the inner pec hard and really brings out the striations when shredding.

Heavy one handed pec dec with a 5 second count on full contraction is a thing ive used a lot in the past too with good results to drag out the detail and get the veins popping through the whole pec area.

+3 brother.

shit............. i forgot i cant give karma in off topic lol....lol

Hey big fella, it's been a while. Hope all's well with you and yours.

I'll have to give the one armed pec dec technique of yours a blast. Ain't seen a guru tag offering up tips for a long time;)

Thats you are supposed to squeeze the shit out of your pecs

Go around to different gyms in your area and look and see what they have see if some have smaller ones something that would work for you then just write the name down and Google how much they would be

Thanks. Ive searched this out as far as I can stand it. Im stuck on the King Fitness thing though. I cant find a dang thing about them on the internet, other than a couple places that have some of their used stuff for sale. I realize its all pretty low tech and if needed I could source parts else where. When I zoom in on a pic though, welds look pretty crappy. Thats not a huge deal, but makes me wonder if things are built square and level.

I'm sure for a home gym it would be fine it's not like at a gym that it's being used multiple time a day all day
