end of an era

ad

So as of this past Friday the 30th day of October in the year 2015 a staple gym and my home for the past 10 years has closed the doors for the final time. It was as old school as it gets cinder block and tin walls, lots of homemade equipment all free weights and the few machines we had were plate loaded.

It was in business since 1984 and has produced 4 pros one currently competing and took 5th in bikini in this year's olympia. Countless npc competitors and guys who were just big for no damn reason at all..lol. It had a stigma with it always called the juice gym, steroid central and lots of other lame names but most who slandered it's name were scared to walk through the doors.

This place and the people in it I've met throughout the years have become some of my best buds (men and women) and it's gonna be weird without our meeting place. Learned tons from great people including some guys like "car wash dave" who is 63 and still rocking it and would pour his heart out to help anyone. I remember when I 1st walked in there at the age of 20 and I asked the owner "how do I get big" and he's reply was " see that over there, it's a squat rack go chain yourself to it".

It's being closed because the landlord sold the building from under the ttenants feet to Wal mart and gave a 30 day notice so the gym has no building and the owner who I've become pretty close to over the years told me sometimes things just have to end. Guess the only reason I'm upset is because it's the only gym in town where you can scream, drop weights, use chalk, eat your food and train like an animal with nothing said. Only other options are snap or anytime fitness so looks like I'll be traveling a bit to train from here on out. Oh well it was fun while it lasted and I will miss it no doubt bit things happen.

I had an old local gym that was basically just steel iron equipment.
GREAT gym that was around for many years but unfortunately it
went out of business too. SAD to see that happen.

Yeah those places are becoming few and far between, kinda sucks. A buddy and I went train at the local chain gym today and needless to say people thought we were neanderthals....lol....old beat up work shirts with holes cut off sweat pants straps and a leather belt with chucks on our feet. Had a blast..lol

Look at the money spent. Get a little set up in house. Can't beat it its there at all times. And get some speakers. I truly love working out at home with a good radio

That's a 90% probability on the route I'm gonna take, been pricing equipment and cost of a building in back.

Its sad when that happens :(, its a whole different mindset, you dont feel like youre at home but everything happens for a reason. I hope you get used to things at a new gym and get into the right mind set and happy and pumped to step in there.

Funny thing is that I went and got a 30 day free pass to snap fitness and soon as a i walked in I realized very quickly this wasn't an establishment for me. Had people askin me if I was a power lifter and all kinds of shit..the dumbells only go to 100 lbs and they only have 10 45lb plates total.....needless to say I was slinging shit around ...lol

If its your place help the man in charge to relocate if he's interested. I know if my place close I'd do anything to help get it set back up. I don't think I could handle snap or anytime. I'd probably snap. At any rate sorry to hear about this. Big box store closing up little businesses is bs

Man we all have been actively searching, all the regulars I mean. They have another gym 45 minutes away just gonna have to take a drive now

Good ol' gyms. Can't find many of them anymore.
I'm sorry to hear that you lost your second home, hope you find a new one.

I'll survive man, supposedly opening a power house a few blocks over but that's been in the works for over 3 years so who knows. Thinking of setting up something small behind my house maybe 1000 square feet
