I love me some epic/ vocal trance for lifting and cardio. I started with progressive during as Flacidego mentioned during the heyday of, "real raves." In the 90's. My favorite thing about this genre of music is I am always downloading new mixes and shows. It never gets stale or old... You might hear a new version of a slamming track mixed in a way that, in that moment just makes me rewind and say how in the fuck did I just hear that.

I grew up listening to underground dance music, not this soul-less pop drivel that falls under the umbrella of EDM. I've also been a dj and producer since 1996 and remember the heyday of real raves. EDM has no soul, no funk, and isn't challenging its listeners and dancers at all. There you have my 2 cents brotha.

Hardstyle is genre of Electronic music.
EDM is mash up of pop and dance usually played about dozen higher bpms than original.
Shit maybe where you're from that's how it is but in my county EDM is the genre
and hardstyle among many others such ad trance dubstep house etc are sub genres of EDM.
