Maui - Sheridan on Kaanapali Beach is 1st class. If your going to go through all the gymnastics of planning, lining out your backup, clearing off your desk, etc. then I suggest two-weeks. Ten-days does not quite cut it when factoring in travel time. The BVI's (St. John for example) are a terrific set of islands also if you are looking to avoid people. I would suggest hiring a sail boat and captain within the first two-days to totally decompress. Bottom line: get out of the office and chill - some day never comes.

Sandals in bahamas is great. Relaxing. Never have to worry about having your money. Great views. Damn now I want to go again lol. Its pricey but you havent had a vacation in a long time....a splurge is in order.

sa-wadee-cah.......fly to thailand stay for a week in phuket(poo-ket) they love well english spoken ppl lol~~~> i am part thai so i know...hint family is muy thai trained ... but go in april why? thats the new years for cambodia and thailand its about a week long, nothing but eating ,swimming, hiking up ruins 1000 yr old temples and the small island surrounding the beach reminds me of avator the movie kid you not.

and if you want more go to maui right after and hike the road to hana with a fantastic waterfall
(your under it) and black sand beach only 2 in the world exist in the world, while in maui go snorkel by charter boat in a sunken vulcan (molokini)

I'm a big fan of Atlantis on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. I've been there a bunch of times and it's always a great time. The last time there I stayed at the The Cove at Atlantis, whish is their luxury upgrade towers and facilities and it was great. It's not too costly and there are plenty of activities to keep you busy all day.

Thailand! I've been 3 times in the last few years. Such a blast. The beaches are great and everything is dirt cheap. Not sure about the weather in the summer though. May be a bit rainy.

I have traveled all over the world and this is one of my favorite places. For a fairly inexpensive but great vacation I would recommend Cozumel. It is awsome. If you are the type of person that likes to dive it has one of the most beautiful underwater landscapes I have found. There are several very nice all inclusive resorts there.

Im not much of a traveller. But I've heard a lot of good things about travel agents. I thought they would have extinguished with the creation of internet and travel websites. But I've heard nothing but good things. This probably isn't the response that you were looking for, but it doesn't hurt to look into a good travel agent and see what they can do for you. I'm sure not taking a vacation in over a decade you really want this next vacation to be perfect. Hope you don't get to the point of stressing out because you plan the vacation....defeats the purpose. The travel agent will do all the work for you!

Dubai !

Look into Palau! Its a island paradise! It's also a shark sanctuary. On the downside it's about 5000 miles away. My girl and I have been saving for about 6 months to go and still have a long time until we can afford it. I know what your thinking shark sanctuary.... Yikes! They have plenty of guarded swimming areas and unbelievable resorts. All else fails Vegas is always fun; )

1. If you want an "active-type" vacation I recommend Puerto Rico. Its US property so you dont need a passport (assuming your US), its easy and cheap to get to, and its "american" enough to be comfortable but has its own culture. Its got beachy resort stuff in San Juan if you need that. The mountain villages and southern coast are really cool they have jungles and lots of caves to explore. Reasonably affordable and people there are overall pretty nice. Most educated are bilingual.

2. If you want a "chill do nothing" vacation I check out the Carib island of Saba. Its like 5 square miles but it goes straight up so the views all around are unbelieveable. Places you stay look like this:

Its small with not so much to do and since its so rocky it and lacks open beaches its never crowded-kind of a hidden gem-not overrun with beached-whale obnoxious obese tourists. Snorkling is the best in the world.

DR bro! Cant beat the women, beaches, food, drinks and overall all the activites. Go to a resort all inclusive shit is sick. I must have a few kids around there now after last time i was there.

On a real note, Jamaica. All inclusive mansion with personal waitstaff and all. Need a towel? Butler. Need a drink? Bartender. Need a fresh rolled J from local greenery?? Just ask the butler!! Here you are sir... Lmao and diving and just the local atmosphere. I went last July. Had no problems whatsoever. I think it was $3500 or so but we shared the mansion with friends. If you're looking for just you and your wife, throw another G or 2 in the mix and I'd say git er dun!!

stop being cheap, you only live once and you owe it to your wife. caribbean island of saint barts or south of france saint tropez. beautiful island, beautiful people and zero crime.

West coast of costs rica! Check out culebra bay, awesome place, good people, affordable and nice beaches. Flights are pretty affordable and easily accessible. i hear the night life is decent a shoet cab ride south if there but i wouldbt know since i was there with my wife...most resorts have a shuttle service as well. Also good fishing here too if that's your thing, it's a bit outside of bill fishing season but I'm sure something is still running. I like the east coast too)Caribbean side ) but its more of a layed back rasta place. Plus from the west coast you can hit another part like the volcanoes or Monteverde if you are into rain forests

What area are you looking to fly out of? I like to pick spots with direct flights, for us that is Cancun, Punta Cana, etc. Most of the all-inclusives are decent and if you want beach Punta Cana has one of the best.

Lisbon, Portugal; Cóte d'Azure, France; Monaco, Principality of Monaco.

All three of the above are fantastic relaxing vacations which will be filled with Mediterranean heat and a sea-breeze. The food is great in all locations and since they're all sea-fronted countries/states the sea food is spectacular, especially the lobster, which is great in Portugal specifically. Along the sea front of the Cóte d'Azure in France there is a number of Michelin star restaurants, which provide great fine dining, ideal for a relaxing vacation. Depending on the time of year you go to Monaco, you could catch the F1 race - i went a month before and it was great to get a tour of the track, following all the chicanes and hair-pins.

My best vacation was a cruise to Bermuda. Bermuda is a very nice, SAFE island with some of the most beautiful beaches in the world! They have more money than we do. The cruise Im speaking of leaves out of NJ, goes to one side of Bermuda for 2-3 days then picks up and goes to the other side of the island for 2-3 days. You rent a scooter and you have all week at the island. You come and go to/from the cruise ship as you please. If you want to come back for Dinner great if you want to get on your scooter and try a restaurant on the island thats great too. It was just a perfect mix.
