Boxing Cold War finally over?
If you're over 30 you probably remember the days of Don King and Mike Tyson. It was an awesome time in the fight game. The UFC was nothing more than a tournament style no holds barred street fight and all the best boxers fought the best boxers. There was no rif raf or politics holding back the good fights. If you were number 1, you fought number 2. PERIOD!
Well somewhere along the way that all changed. It became all segregation. The WBC not recognizing the IBF. The WBO not acknowledging either etc. so you had a cluster fuck of shit fighters with an occasional jem in the mix. But the real problem is you had 5 champs in each weight class. That isn't how it is supposed to go. Aside from this , the two major network juggernauts couldn't agree so they divorced and started signing fighters for their network. So we have grown up watching HBO one weekend and Showtime another.
Then there was the promoters. Bob Arum at Top Rank and Golden Boy refused to work together. It was ridiculous.
Well,...it looks like it's about to bust wide open. When I saw Jim Lampley of HBO sitting with Al Bernstein of showtime , and Michael Buffer (let's get ready to rumble guy) next to Jimmy Lennon Jr, I swear I had a tear in my eye. Pauly Malinagi sitting with Roy Jones. So my purpose of this post is, we have been robbed as fans of the best fighting the best because of this Cold War. Well I think Mayweather v PacMan may have opened the flood gates. Not to mention network prime time TV is carrying big fights again too. Remember when fights were free on NBC? Shits changed. Hopefully this is just the beginning.
I don't like the UFC comparisons. It's a totally different sport and not a competitor. They have their fan base (I'm one) but the sweet science is the sweet science. Cut that shit out.

True story... the guy next to me, turned into "The Rock"... stood up on the table and yelled "IF YA SMELL.... LA LA LA LA LAAA" Lmaooooo... that was back when wresting was fun, that lasted about 20 minutes until we were politely asked to leave... We weren't leaving!!!!!! Then the manager said he was gonna call the law... So we said... "See ya next time".... HA!!!!
Guy from my home town now holds one of the heavyweight belts. He fights for showtime. Klitschko fights for HBO. Would be nice to see Deontay Wilder get a shot at unification, but politics probably won't allow it.
I don't think wilder is ready for klitschko he should take more time to develop his technique. Nitti is right all these champions been fighting lower level guys I also want to see high level competition. For instance I really want to see gennady golovkin vs cotto
Before Kitschko's last fight, I would have agreed with you. He looked old when he fought 2 weeks ago. I think Wilder would challenge him now and possibly win.
I agree klitschko is no longer in his prime I think wilder should fight one more time then call out the champ. The reality that klitschko has been cruising in the heavy weight division as there is no true competition for him. Regardless I'm glad this bullshit is over between showtime & hbo it's time for the best to fight the best no more ducking & dodging opponents. I would like to see fighters take more hands on instead of letting these fucking promoters choose these boring matches. I give it up to mayweather cuz manny was no match for him.
StevebBoxing should do what the UFC does when it comes to pay. The winner should get paid more. Otherwise why even try, why not just get paid even more to take a dive like boxers have done many times.
