Any fishermen in the house?!

ad

It's Mackerel season over here in Ireland. If you use daylights or feathers you pull 3/4 fish fairly regularly, no sport but lots of eating. I usually switch to single lure after a couple of casts like that, try get some sport and I aim for Pollack, so its a bit tougher..

You guys enjoying any fishing like that at the moment?

Southern state side, we love fishing. Red drum, bass, catfish, and speckled trout mostly. Bait em in with some minnows, night crawlers, top water jigs, shrimp, chopped up mullets. I don't get to fish as much as I like to, but whenever I can, itll be in a boat freshwater fishing. Talk about some peace and relaxation! Lately I find myself begging my fishing buddies for their fresh catch... smh!

Fishing is in our blood where I’m from. We do all kinds of different fishing. We like to go out on a boat at the lake & throw lures for bass & crappie all day. We also like to camp out all night on a creek bank with minnows, nightcrawlers & chicken liver & catch catfish & turtles. Every now then we travel a little further down south & go deep sea fishing & it always make for an awesome time!! It’s always fun catching them & even better eating them!!

I love catching them but I hate eating them it sucks cause fish is the magic food for the body

Bearded_muscle's picture

It really is. Ever see an out of shape fisherman? They got that old man strength.

JARHEAD2's picture

Aw bro that stinks! My wife hates to eat them if they have a fishy smell or fishy taste haha, but the way we season them & cook them it will make your mouth water!

Bill G's picture

Shes a smart girl. i wont eat it if it has a fishy smell either.

JARHEAD2's picture

Yeah especially Salmon! She likes it, but it has to be cooked right cause it usually has that strong smell & taste otherwise!!

giardap's picture

She might like Irish smoked Salmon. It's absolutely amazing when cured, amazing. Low is smell, all taste. Throw some on some Irish soda bread with butter. Life will never be the same again.

I live in Eastern Europe.
It's all about waiting here.
No matter where you go, no matter how good your lures, gear, equipment is.
You will be spending hours and hours just to lure that fish in.
And ou I remember my visit to uk. To Irish sea, fishing for macrel. Mmmmm

Just got back camping and pulled some really tasty trout out of the river we were at. Tinfoil and butter on the grill. Dinner served.

giardap's picture

What sorta bait do you use? I haven't managed to get a single bloody salmon in the line this year.
That sad, I amn't using fly's and I guess you gotta give them what they are eating.

Fangsharp's picture

Man I used Roostertail perch color spinnerbait, fat rap tiny Rapala and Nightcrawler 18" off bottom with 3/4 oz weight.

giardap's picture

Rooster tails Fang, are they feathers at the end of a spinner?
Am I right in saying that?

Bearded_muscle's picture

Roped about 40 kilo of mackerel a month back and about 15 kilo of pollack off the west coast. Can’t talk locations but it was in front of the Cliffs and we could’nt carry any Moher fish.

giardap's picture

Puntastic!!

Bill G's picture

I love running a small spinner bait like a roostertail in shallow creek beds. Ill pull every bass, perch and crappie out of it in minutes

Bill G's picture

Chartreuse is the color in these parts. Took me a while to figure out what the hell is neon green in nature. Where i grew up the color was black and silver or red and silver. Here, not catching any thing with those colors its got to be chartreuse. And i found the bug that is that color. Catalpa worms! Creepy little bastards. And they are seasonal. I catch a bunch and freeze them in corn meal.

jrod91384's picture

Crappie and bass are the best. I hear ya

giardap's picture

Lovely, I love spinners. The right ones can really wake the fish up and get them feeding.
I spent a chunk of time this summer on the local river which went really shallow with the heat. For some reason, Id run the spinners right by the trouts nose and they wouldnt bite, the odd one would chase a swim off.. Wrong time, bait, I dunno. Throw a fly in though and they are jumping right out of the water.

Bill G's picture

Some times when there being cantankerous. I'll use night crawler worms. Run them on a 10 or 12 inch lead from the weight. And jack em up with 2cc of air. Makes them float and just thrash around. Really gets the fish's attention

giardap's picture

You inflate the worms?!?!?! Seriously? How dya do that?

I have memories of the old man getting us to pour water into patches of the garden to get them to come up, for fishing trout.

Bill G's picture

With a syringe... got any of those laying around? Haha! We used to do the water trick but I'd put copper rods about 2 feet long and 2 to 3 feet apart in the soil. Hook a battery charger on to the rods. Turn it on 2 amp trickle. Those worms couldn't wait to get out of the ground.

Drock_357's picture

I have a spring fed pond so during the dry summer season and the water is low, I’ll go out in a small John boat with some dry dog food n my bow.... chum them channel cats and load up on fish... I doubt fish n game dept would approve but wtf it’s my property lol

giardap's picture

Delish!
I hear the catfish can really get huge with time??

I fish every st Patrick's morning. Also in Ireland.

More into river or lake fishing as much of the seas near me are overfished.

Love fishing for trout and salmon to eat and pike for the fun of it. when I go on holidays up north or to Clare I love to fish for perch, very tasty fish.

Ah lovely! Clare is beautiful. I spent many summers there.
Pike are fun, real fighters!

fusebox's picture

Trying to get the elusive walleye or crappie to bite my line but I've been mostly unsuccessful. It's to damn hot

jrod91384's picture

They never like to bite in the heat. It kinda sucks. Get out there inbetween 5 and 6 in the morning and there hitting

giardap's picture

into the deeper waters they go!

fusebox's picture

Yeah. But soon the lake will turn and they will be back shallow.

giardap's picture
