hypothyroidism med linked to rheumumatoid arthritis
I was so aggravated with Doctors! People act as if they are all knowing. Recently I have had massive swelling in my hands and feet. This just so happened with my increase of synthroid. I tried telling my dr. about it and he said you must have rheumumatoid arthtris. I simply said, It is probally from a increase of the medication,I had slight swelling before and when med was increased swellign increased. I asked him to switch me to Armour from synthrouid after reading all the positive reviews on here about it. He refused and said no we are goign to put oyu on medication for your arthritis. He took a test and found I carry the gene (no shit my mom, dad and grandmother carry it) it doesnt mean I currently have it. When I decrease medication it decareses the swelling and when I increase it it increases welling. He said this is weird, rheumumatoid arthritis ususally only effect the knuckles and ankles not hands and feet.....*ding ding, no shit. Any ideas how to have him get on the same level or have him try to switch me over to armour?

Help me understand a little better, I have AR associated with Lupus. Which test did he do to determine you had RA? Was it an anti-CCP test- which measures levels of antibodies that bind citrulline modified proteins (can be used to predict which patients will get more severe rheumatoid arthritis)
What was your (RF) RA Factor?
Also, you can request other test like a (ERS) Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate-which will give you the degree of inflammation.
Also, are you having any other symptoms? When I was diagnosed with Lupus at 22 the doctor only tested me cause I had a very close relative that was dying from the disease. My point is I would have him test me for other things as well and if all test aren't in support of RA I would tell him to change the meds. I've been doing this for 11 years. I know what my body responds to and what it does not. If the Dr. feels you have educated yourself in the situation they are less likely to give you shit.
AnonNope.. As you already said these people are almighty all knowing and minions such as ourselves dont have the right to correct their mistakes let alone speak on the same level ;p
If i were you id switch doctors and be outright honest about it.. Your new doc would see it as an advantage to take ur side and switch up ur meds as it would probably mean repeat business.. Would u beleive my doctor actually told me steroids dont make your muscles grow or make one stronger lol! And refused to help me with blood tests!
But in all honesty you may be better off with some anti inflammatories than switching up thyroid meds espescially if its working!
Anontraining and eating makes your muscles grow, steroids and sleeping aids in quicker recovery for more growth..in a sence your dr.is rite..but i hear ya..just sayin:)-
