+ 11 Using steroids and keeping your hair!?
Hey everyone.
I've been on finasteride (propecia) since I was about 18 (now mid 30s). I'm confident I would have been completely bald by 21 if I hadn't taken the plunge and started, yet I still have a decent head of hair. I've been thinning slowly (more so in the last few years as I started B/C) so I decided to do some research. Turns out there is a TON of varying information about all this so I wanted to make a post with some basics.
First let me explain one important thing that I thought I knew but I was wrong; there are 2 main types of steroids to worry about as far as I'm concerned:
(DHT and androgen are the bad things for your hair)
-
Ones that convert to DHT via 5-alpha-reductase enzyme (testosterones) - These can generally be countered by taking finasteride (propecia) or dutasteride. Keep in mind the "normal dose" will block most of the 5AR that you produce naturally so you would need to increase your dose as you add outside testosterone to the mix.
-
Steroids that are MADE from DHT derivatives - basically everything else. These steroids will NOT be neutralized by finasteride because the 5AR conversion process is not happening in your body as the steroid is already the "final hair wrecking product" and not the pre converted stuff that finasteride can stop. How to counter this is a little more complicated and will be explained further down.
Which steroids are ok or bad for hair? Basically all of them. Anavar, equipose(boldenone) and Tbol "might" be ok at lower doses - Please keep in mind everyone has their own reaction to these but this is more of a general consensus. This is also for people who are prone to hair loss obviously.
Please keep in mind the above is a very general summary of how all of this works and there are other things involved as well but this should be enough for most people.
Ok, so you want to get on the tren train and snort dbol all day... here are a few things that can potentially help:
-
Minoxidil with azelaic acid topical twice a day. Minoxidil works by opening up the blood vessels and letting more nutrients and potassium in. Azelaic acid works differently by helping prevent the binding of DHT to the hair follicles. There is a LOT of feedback about these working well together. You can buy these combined in 1 bottle.
-
Nizoral shampoo: Use this twice a week to every other day and let it sit in your hair while you shower. It works in a few days: anti inflammatory properties on scalp, lowering sebum secretion which clog up hair follicles, and the main reason, it's an anti-androgen. It stops DHT and androgen from binding to the androgen receptors.
-
Emu oil: This is another AR inhibitor and anti inflammatory. This has pretty great feedback for working in the front of the scalp, more so than most of the other things listed here.
-
Caffeine: This seems to promote hair regrowth when applied topically to the scalp, even in hair exposed to DHT.
-
Topical Spironolactone cream: This works a little different than the rest, in that instead of inhibiting or blocking off the receptors in one way or another, this actually binds to the receptors, so that the DHT cannot. This is available in a pill too but it is NOT meant for men. Topical only.
-- For items 2,3,4 you can easily find all 3 in 1 bottle of shampoo. I am not getting any compensation for this or anything but a very well reviewed one would be "Regenepure DR" at about $20-25 a bottle. Use it to wash the "horseshoe" danger zone and then some other shampoo for the rest if you want to make it last longer.
I know this sounds like a lot of stuff, and it is, but most of it can be found online pretty cheaply, some even on the sites hosted here. Hopefully this is helpful to people!

My finasteride just arrived today. It's my first experience with it. What would be considered a "normal" dose.... I am not currently running anything other then HGH. But I will be running test @ 250mg wk and tren @ 400 mg wk starting in April. What should my dose be uped to then? Can you help me out? Also, I'm interested in azelic acid. Can you guide me where to get that? Thanks bro. Pm me if you want. I appriciate it
Sure, FR sent. I took/take 1mg/day of Finasteride.. You're supposed to raise it as you increase testosterone but I couldn't really find a good ratio anywhere of how much you raise it vs how much test you take.. If I had to guess I'd say 1.5 a day would be ok.. if you have no sides you could experiment with it. Dutasteride is a lot stronger and I've been doing that lately.
Thanks brother. I'll be getting back to you on that on another day. I just got done posting the pic of my shipment of ancillaries. Check it out. Got a shit ton of stuff. Some stuff should last a few cycles.
Thanks for the info! Waiting for the new posts from you.
Hitman187So far, knock on wood, I've had zero problems with hair thinning. I running masteron for the first time this cycle. I was a nervous wreck at first but no problems for me. I feel for everyone who is struggling with hairloss but i think these shampoos and pills seem like alot of work. If it ever gets to that point for me ill probably just shave my head.
The spiri cream is twice a day and so is the rogain. How do you go about this? Rogain first? Wait till the rogain dries? Just your experience so I know how to start going about it.
Edit; spiro kind of smells like shit
Spiro smells skunky but once it on your head a while it smells like shit especially if you sweat. I really got turned off from it. I trying to just divide up my time (if I was home for 4 hours before bed) I'd try to apply the stuff every hour or whatever so each one had a good amount of time to absorb. Ideally though you'd do some in the morning and some at night.
AnonShit over the years of steroid use...yes my hair has thinned some but I had a thick head of hair so that's ok so yea I still got hair but.... The amount of hair that thinned out on top popped up everywhere else on my body fuck... I got hair everywhere I had to get new trimmers I burned up my last pair
Masteron and proviron together are the tough ones with hair loss
No shit, I've even noticed I have to shave under my eyes. Wtf! It's like every hair I loose on my head pops up in a place I don't want it.
I hear you there. Limited flexibility doesn't help either. I'm interested in the laser comb dudebro mentioned, but I think I also need one for my back and shoulders that takes the hair off. The struggle is real. I stopped shaving the chest this year. It's cold out. Lol. And I don't mind that. But I hate it popping up on my back.
I wouldn't waste any time with anything besides minoxidil or fin. My 0.02$.
I'd rank it:
1. finasteride
2. keto/niz shampoo (that regenepure DR I named in the article is great)
3. minoxidil
4. spiro
i agree although id put the laser comb at #1. you should give it a try bro. rogaine to me seems totally worthless and a pain in the ass to use. never used spiro and don't even know what it is but if you have it after rogaine i guess that would make it completely worthless lol.
Does this only affect people who are in a predisposition to loosing hair in short term?
I'm not really sure what you mean. If it's the test or mast or tren etc that's making your hair thin out, this stuff will help. This will help even if your hair is fine when you're not on the juice but then shitty when you're on it.
I have never had a problem with my hair until I used mast. It's definitely thinned my hair.
I ran mast this time and was really worried about mast+tren because I lost hair just on tren last time. Luckily this regiment here kept me in good shape up top.
Thank you for the information my friend.
Thanks for the info.
I just ordered some of this stuff. I'd like to get my dr to prescribed finasteride. Keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best with all of it. This is a good post and thank you for the info.
my doc prescribed it to me, and insurance doesn't cover it. those motherfuckers... so i bought it from a source..
Walmart or costco have propecia for like $10 a month or less with prescription of course!
a laser comb is probably the only thing out there that will actually grow new hair in places that its thinning. if you catch it early enough you might not even need the fina. pm me if you wanna know where to get one. they're fairly cheap.
I'm interested if you've had success with one. They vary so much in price I've been skeptical. Fr sent
sure hit me up bro.
No problem man, best of luck to you. Any dermatologist should recommend it if you're thinning or worried even, if your general doctor wont.
If anyone is having a problem finding the stuff I listed here shoot me a FR and I can let you know where I got it. (not affiliated just found a reliable source)
I have a very simple solution for this! Shave your head bro!
I'm sure one day I'll have to do that, but I have a giant, weird shaped head so I'm going to prolong that day as much as I can
Geez your head is weird
AnonI bet he has a wide range of view
Lol do you have a egg head? Watermelon or cone head?
I only shaved it once and it freaked me out. Wife said it was normal but I think it was lopsided or something. My head slants weird above my forehead, not sure how else to describe it
Good chit. How high do you run the finasteride when you are on? What does your test dose look like in relation to your finasteride dose? I'm thinking about taking the plunge with taxes. Stock up on a years worth of fina, minoxidil, and the regenepure. Hopefully I can get by without the spiro lol. +1
I never actually increased it, although I know the fina is a lot less useful with higher test doses. What I did was take a dutasteride(avodart) pill as well. I got them from the #3 ranked guy on eroids here, not sure if we are supposed to name names or what. Dutasteride is way more efficient so I figured that was enough.

I wanted to update this thread as I ran a full tren/mast/test cycle since I posted. This was my second tren cycle and in my first one I had very noticeable hair loss. In the second one I had what seems to be some hair regrowth, DURING cycle. It was pretty crazy.
Keep in mind besides for the following I am running 1mg/day of Propecia and have been for like 10 years.
Here was my routine: (be warned, its so annoying and the spirolactin smells)
Wake up, shower.. wash hair first with clarifying shampoo then put in nizoral shampoo and let it sit while I wash body. (if my scalp was dry I'd do this every other day or something instead of daily)
Go out work run errands etc.
Once I was home for the day I'd start the routine.. Minoxidil then wait a while then spirolactin then wait a while and Minoxidil again. I tried to spread these applications as far apart as possible from each other so they had time to sink in.
The spirolactin smells like skunk and minoxidil and spiro both leave crusty shit on your scalp. I'm not really sure how worth it it is except that I've got a giant head and I really don't want to be bald. I'm off of the tren now and stopped with the spiro.
Minoxidil takes a long time to start working so I'm thinking whatever helped me was either the spirolactin or the nizoral shampoo. I'm hoping it was the shampoo because I'm over the smelly spiro in my hair all the time.
I'll update this again in a few more months after just running the nizoral to see how it progresses.
It all comes down to genetics. If you have the genes for it, steroids will just accelerate the loss. I would not touch finasteride, way too many bad side effects. Nizoral 2% is a shampoo that blocks DHT receptors in the scalp, thats your best bet.
Read a steroid myth article, I think it was posted on this site, claiming that testosterone's are the real culprits to hair loss and not the dht's/nor's
Been on and off gear for years now, never had an inkling of any hair loss or prostate issues. Now TRT and still nothing to speak of. I think most of it is genetic/hereditary and if it's there then the extra hormones will inevitably increase the risk. Till then, just roll with the(any?) punches ;-)
this may sound crazy but ... recently my hair hairloss as slowed to a crazy low amount ... has my AAS use changed? no. and I've been dealing with MPB for years!
what am I currently running? tren, provi and test
I've been using nizoral cream 2% for years and while it's made a little difference I was still experiencing shed ...
about 2 weeks ago I started taking zyertec d cause I was getting sick of my daily congestion ... and a few days ago I just randomly did a pull test on my hair and noticed zero hairs! I checked my pillow only a couple hairs! which is an insane difference from just 2 weeks ago.
doing some research I read online cetirizine the antihistime in zyertec is a pgd2 inhibitor , which had been recently discovered to be in higher concentrations on the scalp of men who have androgenic alopecia. it appears that zyertec is stopping the inflammation I'm experiencing at the follicle
while prolonged daily use of cetirizine also has it's cons, this for me had made a huge difference in only a short period of time ... I'm going to continue to use zyertec off and on and monitor my hairloss.
also I've never used minox or propecia.
do your own research ... I wish they'd come out with a topical cream of cetirizine , I've seen some guys making their own but Id rather have a lab formulated cream.
jzagGreat info. +1. Thanks for taking the time to post it. I'm going to look into that shampoo.
RustyhookerHair is overrated. Can't beat out genetics. Roids just accelerates em. Hit dht gear and rest of body gets fuzzy as hell. Boooo! Wish it would all fall off. I'd save thousands on razors.
laser comb bro. worth checking out.
I just went to my dermatologist and asked him about this actually. He told me only 2 things work by actual study. Finasteride and Rogaine (ingredient in Rogaine). Although the box says only works in crown area, the Dermatologist says it works in all areas. The study just focused on the crown. So I been trying Rogaine for the past month maybe, my hair still seems the same. Not thinning or falling out like it was, but the color and texture is changing to me.
But I'm gonna take your advice. Just ordered the Nizoral but it's at 1% I think. Thanks bro.
All of this stuff takes time, unfortunately. And, with Rogaine(minoxidil) you might experience a "shed" before it starts working.
A shed? As in my hair may continue to trickle and fall out? This has been the case. I notice most all my hair loss when I do my hair and rub it or when I dry my hair with a towel after showers. Is this "the shed" you mean?
It's hard to say if it's a shed or just continued hairloss until a little time has passed. Hair has a natural life cycle where it grows then falls out and regrows. When you start something like rogain it basically pushes it towards the "fall out" phase right away (shed) so that the newer stronger stuff can regrow. If it comes back then it was a shed, if it continues then it's just falling out.
I've been a firm believer of the nizoral %2 approach. I use it eod as a precautionary measure.
You should consider checking out one of those "all in one" shampoos like the one I mentioned in there. It's the same thing with another few things that are supposed to help.
Thanks so much for this. +2
