Trick the body with the Mind
For years in the gym I've heard that genetics play the most important role in growing, building muscle, and developing a certain physique and that "you may never be able to look that way if you don't have the genetics". I to a point believe this to be true. The next most important thing, I would hear, is diet, which I def know to be true. Here lately I'm thinking that a very important, if not more important than the afore mentioned elements, part of bodybuilding is MENTAL. That's right it's the power of the mind to trick the body into doing things that the body believes it can't or isn't designed to do; " mental masturbation" so to speak. Here are some examples: how many times have you reached failure, you think, and preparing to do some forced reps and just the fact that your spotter is standing behind that bench or merely places a couple of fingers under the bar gets you a couple of more reps? It's a mental thing even though the spotter might not do shit your body thinks you can't do it without them there. Another example is the sheer power of music. Throw on some head banging in your face music and you feel like you can lift the freaking gym!!! Same as when you crank it up in the car and you want to drive 100mph!!! It's a mind game. Think about it. Your mind is much more powerful than your body and can convince the body to do some pretty amazing shit!!!
I say all that to say this. I believe that mental preparation and focus are just as important if not more important than some other miracle regimens that dudes will try in the gym. Lock in, focus, crank it up, and lift some heavy shit!! It feels good to your brain!

Good post and so, so true! That mental trickery goes even further. You can do a lot to your body through mental manipulation. And not just subconsciously. Visualization works well for me as well as looking for a feeling in my work outs. Some people waste their time by being "rep counters". They go into the gym knowing what exercises theyre going to do and for how many sets and reps. Im not saying I go in without a plan, but its all very flexible. And I visualize my target muscles contracting and stretching and have had a pretty good result full natty. Now its time to educate and fuel the machine and see those results too!
RustycanDo it brother!!
the mind controls the body, prefect point you made I look around and 95% of the people are just lifting weight not squeezing the targeted muscle. these same people look the same month after month, year after year. genetics play a role in how your muscles are shaped, how easy your able to build that muscle, however never count out hard, hard work and proper nutrition.
+1 very true people go in and do there route no concentration and then they don't take the gym home with them as they should. I dream of this stuff baby lol
Genetics in the BB game are for sure paramount. You can see a guy with perfect calves without even training them and then you see another guy juicing hitting those calves like crazy and even using that synthol stuff still not even coming close.
That being said I am a proponent of 100% mind over the physical. I time and time again see in my field determination winning over strength of body. In BB the real power of the mind is the ability to overcome the pain of tearing down the muscle more than the guy who can't handle the pain. Because obviously you will build it back bigger and stronger if you can overcome the pain which is all mental. Another aspect of BB where the mind rules is when it comes to eating, you often here people say I can't eat more or zI am going to puke. Well then you have others who get that exact way too but they will the food down and keep it down despite the loathing to do so. More mind over matter.
I am a more of a fighter than a bodybuilder, I really enjoy seeing a guy with superior genetics rule over everything he surveys. What I enjoy even more is guy who has inferior genetics but over comes by sheer heart and will. again the use of mind over body inferiority. If one man or women posses both forget about it.
+2
RustycanLol! I'm the guy doing all that and still not having much of any calves. Agree on some people being genetically gifted more than others and much prish the plus 2!
Lol! Case in point this bastard doesn't train his calves!!!

BuckyDentureTut tut tut , I never quite said that . But it is mostly luck though, you got me.
Thats a whole lot of times up some long steep hills on ma bike towing my children with a rope.
He's probably 4ft 6" tall so walks around on tip toes all day.
BuckyDentureHey thats 4'6" and a half !!! I figure with a new set of insoles I can even call it 4'7 "
Lmao! I have calve envy!!
Lmao.
I also think it's what you focus on. The weight or the muscle. I think Kai Greene said it best. "Do you focus on the hammer or the nail?" "You better focus on what you are trying to hit. Not the tool you are using."
