+ 1 Strength or Physique

ad

I'm curious what others goals are? Are you more strength orientated or are you going for that perfect physique?

Personally, my goals are for strength. I would actually like to be smaller, denser, but freakishly strong. In my mind, it would be awesome, throwing 405 on the bar, and others looking at me like "watch this scrub thinking he's gonna bench that shit, he looks like a pussy". Then busting out 8 or so reps and blowing their fucking minds, lol. Still have a long way to go until I get to that point. But that's my own little personal fantasy, as weird as it may seem. My next cycle and training routine will be geared towards this sort of thing in mind, I'll post both when I get going here in a few weeks.

What about YOU?

I've always had the mentality that I needed to train heavy and train often. That's what was the thought process of college strength and conditioning coaches, who was I to judge them The older I get, the more I realize that it isn't about throwing as much weight on as possible. Yes, I want to be as strong as possible, but that is going to be a byproduct of hitting the gym consistently. I am not trying to lean this body out, put on/keep as much muscle possible. So my long answer is to train for physique. There has been times I've almost been embarrassed to take my shirt off, not any more!

Strength and endurance. Im in the same boat as Nitti, Explosive and strong but my endurance is suffering because of it.
Power is useless without endurance.( IMO)

i want it all. i want to be big and lift heavy weights.

Stength and endurance! The physique is less important to me. I've been training for strength since I started this. But It's had it's downside. All this extra mass and the way I train has created all fast twitch muscle. Explosive on the spot power! But I fatigue too quickly. Not wind tired, muscle tired. Heavy burning feeling in the muscles when I train for endurance. I'm trying to do mostly high rep light weight slow twitch muscle workouts now. I've maxed out my bench at 325lbs. I don't need to be any stronger than that at 190lbs.

Come on nitti you know you want 500. I hit 455 last year at 190. I'll hit 500 this year for sure. Well nothing is for sure but when I hit it you'll know cause I'm gonna post video after video lol

Oh and just to let you know if don't know already. Once you start throwing up 405 you'll b looking to get 500 and so on and so on you'll never want to stop seeing how much weight u can move. That's the way I am anyway:-)

My goal is a better physique. Even with that being the focus, most guys training for physique are stronger than your average Joe., So even though its not powerlifter strength, im happy with that. As my body gets older I am definitely moving away from ultra heavy weights and training that aggravates injuries or could cause new ones. Strength is difficult to quantify(except through personal bests). Lean mass, decreasing body-fat %, increasing vascularity, these things show and can be measured. For me these changes are the prize, but each of us has our own goals and motivations that drive us. I personally respect any one putting in the work to improve their lives whether they bodybuild, powerlifting, cross fit, or jog. I just hate seeing how the general population is so sedentary and gluttonous. I can't stand seeing parents fattening up their toddlers and imposing a life sentence of diabetes on them before they're old enough to decide on their own if they want to be unhealthy.
I know that got a little off track.
Short answer: physique for me.
Btw: hope you hit your goal!

Man I do a Lil of both. Love being strong but don't want to look like a power lifter. I switch my workout up from heavy low reps to light high reps. My next cycle is gonna b for size so heavy heavy heavy for me. Like withdrawal said tho to each his own.

x2, i dont see why it has to be one or the other! i go through phases where i get obsessive about my strength going up and train heavy, but for the most part incorporate both light weight high rep lifts AND heavy weight low reps into almost every training day. i really like pyramiding my weight both up and down in almost every exercise and rarely stick with the same weight through all 4 sets.

i try to hit both fast and slow twitch fibers every day im in the gym, constantly mixing things up. one week i'll use nothing but free weights on a given body part, then the next week i'll train that same body part on its given day and use the machines and cables instead of free weights. constant muscle confusion, plus it keeps my routines and lifting in general from getting monotonous and almost boring ... ive only been lifting for about 3 /12 years but already if i dont almost constantly switch it up i dont enjoy going to the gym as much - it almost becomes a chore.

overall though, if i had to pick which is more imprtnt to me, its definitly physique - its what i see in the mirror that brings me back to the gym more than anything else, making it better and keeping what ive accomplished.

I'm going for that perfect physique. Yea the strength is nice and it's going to come with it. But bottom line is I do this shit to look good naked and hopefully live longer with a banging fucking body.
