Shoulder issues

I know a lot of you have had your share of injuries and joint problems. Now I'm having my own and looking for advice.

I first noticed a pain in my shoulder a couple years ago doing shoulder presses on a smith. Kind of felt like a pop/grinding and a lot of very temporary pain. So I stopped doing that exercise with heavy weight and tried to to be careful for a while with the shoulders. Last June I was doing dumbell benching and felt it again but was so into the workout I ignored the pain, then was out of commission for upper body for a couple of months. After a lot of swimming and rest I judged it to be ok with painless pull ups. I've just been trying to take it easy since. Unfortunately the problem seems to be getting worse. I haven't lifted in a month and about to start pct next weeks, so test is currently crashing.

Over the past couple of months and especially the last month or so I've noticed that if I put my hands up with elbows and armpits at 90 degrees, then swivel them down like doing hand signals; I can feel grinding and popping in the shoulders. It is painful when I feel the grinding as well. This scares me and I'm worried there might be some degenerative defect going on. I need to get back to lifting asap but I don't want to cause further serious damage. Depression, alcoholism and now this shoulder issue contributed to me failing in this cycle, well sort of, I'm thinking I may be keeping 6 pounds of lean muscle, so not a total loss but I know it could have been sooooo much better.

I'd like to hear some experiences. I'm going to call my doctor in the next couple of days and have her take a look but we all know they aren't as smart as they'd like us to think. I'm considering TB500 as well. I'd love to get some pharma hgh but I can't afford that shit.

Update

Went to the doc last week. Regular doctor was on vacation so some dude I've never seen before who seemed really lazy, smelled like butts and had a fat fuckin gut was there to check me out. After a very brief check, he said 'i don't think we need xrays, doubt it's bone related. probably will need an mri. but here, take naproxen and go to physical therapy. if that doesn't make it better then we'll get an mri.''

alright man. so I went to the pt today. The dude there spent a good amount of time looking at it. He thinks I should have just gotten the mri, just like I had thought, why try to fix something when you don't know what the problem is... He believes the issue is a tear in the cartilage that the head of the humerus sits in. But anywho, I'm gonna keep going to pt, then probably end up getting the MRI.

Do a couple of pt sessions then just say it's causing you severe pain. Should expedite the MRI process.

From the reading it sounds very similar to what I dealt with for several years prior to having surgery last fall. Slap tear of the labrum is what mine was and your symptoms sound like you have the same. I had adjusted exercises and weights to keep training but it kept getting worse. Final straw was going to the rifle range to site in a new deer rifle. Kick seemed a little more than what I typically felt but being a hard head I kept going. Couldn't sleep that night due to pain, and it started locking whenever I would try and reach overhead. MRI only showed 1 tear, but when my surgeon got in there to fix it he found 5! Go see a ortho soon would be my advice.

Thank you for all the replies. I have a dr appt tomorrow. I'm going to see what they have to say before adding supplements and peptides. I'm assuming there going to be little help, but this is what health insurance is for.

Your absolutely right on the smith, the number of guys I know that have destroyed rotator cuffs on smith machines. It's not a natural groove to push in. I was never a big user of them anyway, but I can't press on them in any way since shoulder surgery.

Had it I both shoulders, the left being the worst. The only steps I took was to avoid heavy weight, never use a smithmachine for shoulder press or bench press. It sounds simple put like that buts it's finding alternative exercises, for shoulder press id do it stood up with palms facing in, it seemed to take the stress out of the joint this way. I'd drop barbell bench, flat n incline for dumbell presses, and drop dumbell flyes for cable crossovers but dont cross over that'll stress elbows more aswell.
I still feel it in my left rear delt, even thought it's ok now, I could wake up tomorrow after sleeping in an awkward position and itd be fukd for a few weeks.

Ininjuries are a bitch, dint even get me started on my lower back lol. Hope things work out for you bro, the better your in tune with your body the better things will be towards recovery.

I am getting up there in age and after 25+ years of lifting weights my joints finally started screaming at me. My elbows and knees were the worst. I have had to adjust my lifting to routine to using lighter weights and increasing the time under tension and using strict controlled form for the whole range of motion. No more heavy weights for me. I feel like a new man now. No tendonitis in my elbows and I can kneel down without everything popping and cracking. Even though I am lifting much lighter weights now, I am still packing on muscle. So this may be something you might want to consider in the future after you get your shoulder checked out. Popping and grinding in the shoulder does not sound good. Best to get it checked out and corrected sooner rather than later. Best of luck.

Oh, yeah! 8 time Mr. O, Lee Haney famously used lighter weights and did ok with it. Now he's over 50 and no real joint probs.
