Servicemen/ Firefighters/ Cpat training

ad

K guys so Im looking into becoming a fireman as there is a course coming up in October. I live in the USA and have been doing a little research. I guess the first step is to pass a physical test(Cpat) before coming eligible to enlist in the class or academy. I'm sure we gotta a couple firefighters on here and it would be a huge help if someone could help me with what is involved and what kind of training I could do to prepare myself for the Cpat test. I am going to be in this current Ebc( recomp or cutting). The ebc will be over like 2 or 3 weeks prior to the program starts so I would likely be cruising on test during this period. Another question I have is are firemen tested for PED's??I would assume not by looking at some of the ones around here. Thanks for any inside information you guys can get to help me out. Aso, I'm 205 lbs 5'9 1/2" probably 12% bf right now but will be much lower bf come October if this helps with advise/ suggestions. Thanks is advance and hope this is in the correct forum...

Pank and rookie medic are on point. Core strength and cardio. None of the firefighters I know have been tested for AAS and some of these guys live on it. Shit, one of the firefighters at my gym looks like he could compete year round.

Anyway, back to training....CrossFit is a really good way to prepare yourself and help with the type of endurance and core strength you will need. Good luck to you!

Core and legs. or Cross fit and HIIT
The cpat isin't really the hardest test( there are a few variations of the test, but most are basically the same) if the testing facility adds in a Vo2 max component or a swimming component , then the test is alot harder than you think, and being 5'9, 205, you are going to use a fair amount of air, so cardio/ endurance training is going to be key.

Most males (160-200LBS) can muscle their way through the course with ease, its the fatigue and cardio factors that hurt recruits.

Thanks for the help bud. I'm going to be hitting a lot of cardio over the next 10 weeks so endurance should not be a problem hopefully. Im planning on getting a weighted vest and working out lots of core!

Core training will be essential and I a mean a lot of it. It is what will carry the rest of the body when the limbs grow fatigued. I don't know if yours is s state test and all the requirements at there are different course to negotiate. But I can't imagine one that will not need a huge emphasis on core strength.
