+ 12 No levels/No Points A thoughtful approach to a new point system
Firstly, I am extremely proud to be a member of this site and will never be able fully repay BFG and all the members before me, however, I will always try to make this community better.
This post is concerning our karma system and members points. I believe karma is a great bonus and helps to get members involved, dont we all want to reach expert level (I sure do). However, after seeing how karma can be abused and manipulated, I believe its time for a different approach. Also keep in mind, no system will be bulletproof, people who want to abuse the system will always find a way to do so.
(Disclaimer) I am proud to be a level 3 member but I'm even prouder to celebrate my 3rd year on Eroids this fall. I am sure 95% of the members do not abuse their karma or its benefits.
My approach: No more points and levels as it currently exists. Instead under each avi will be 3 numbers which represent years as a member, reviews written and pics uploaded. So if a member is brand new under his/her avi would read
0 0 0
However in the case of a member who has been here for 4 years and has written 15 reviews and submitted 50 pics, the numbers under that avi would read
4 15 50
Good idea? Maybe or Maybe not. I came to this approach for a few reasons.
Years as a member (First point shown under avi). I believe time is a crucial element in being a member here. We need to be invested in order to understand the community. Years as a member is a number you cannot fake. The number is a accurate representation of your time as a member here on Eroids.
Reviews written (Second point value shown under an avi). Honestly, I believe this to be the most important of all the numbers. We can all purchase gear and get in on promos but how many of us know how to write a review that is concise, thoughtful and informative. Does the number(shown) of reviews written differentiate between a good and bad review? No. However, it is a number that shows a member took time to wrote a review of the products he/she has used.
Pics uploaded (Third number shown under avi). This number is a representation of the pics a member has uploaded. Again, this shows an investment within the community.
Would up voting still exist? Yes but you would earn no points for a thumbs up. Conversely, you would lose no points for a thumbs down.
How would we find trolls? MODS would tag trolls as they currently do.
I have a concern that a few people come here and within a few months (usually 8-12 months) these members have become level 3 or advanced members in a fairly short amount of time. My system of points would eliminate that problem. Upvoting would no longer be allowed to change a members' status level. Instead, members would be encouraged to write reviews and add pics. My approach would also eliminate the circles which occur at times, where members get together and upvote each others posts/comments/pics in order to achieve a higher karma point total.
Does my system has flaws? Probably, and feel free to contribute your thoughts/suggestions/opinions.
Is this system bulletproof against fraud? Not at all, but I think its a strong system.
I am no means attempting to say what were doing currently as far as points is wrong and/or bad. I just think like all things in life we need to tweak our system sightly.
Thanks for reading

Who was the asshole that neged this post????? Really
AnonNo worries brother. Whoever it was, I would of appreciated a debate vs a neg vote. But we all are free to do as we choose.
BFG: Suggestion maybe the person who created the post (and only that person) should be able to run their cursor over the "thumbs down" image and see what member(s) downvoted.
i agree with that it would be a good thought. it just pisses me off that people will negg you and not show there face and tell you why they negged you at least. chicken shit if you ask me..your a good dude and i apreciate your post buddha
The concept is interesting but I think the karma system is working just fine. Yeah there are some people abusing the system but no matter what system is in place some people will try to take advantage of it. Thankfully the mods do a good job and the karma whores are weeded out and dealt with accordingly. When considering advice from someone their karma level draws me in at first. Then I see what other info they have posted and what compounds etc they are familiar with. Just trying to get an overall picture of their background and experience. Here is a thought, what about adding those numbers you suggested under the Karma. It kind of would be just another piece of intel to get more info at a glance on a member.
I think the combination of details would make sorting through information when researching much easier
AnonI like that idea. Never even thought about it +1
I think it's fine the way it is really. I've seen a few people who had their karma shooting up real high real fast and then I see them a few days later and they have 50, 100 or sometimes ALL of their karma gone. The mods catch on to the people who are karma whoring and take care of it with either a dock in karma or a ban. So don't worry about when you see someone's karma going up way high way fast because if you notice it then so will a mod and it will be taken care of.
AnonKarma shooting up is not the main theme or something I'm too worried about. Look at Panheaded investigation on sources, he was able to penetrate those sources because of his karma level. All karma is not bad and 95% of us handle karma like adults. Thanks for your response though bro. Thank you
Give them a vote if you find it helpful.PermalinkThere will be people that will always find a way to manipulate the system no matter what it is but usually those people do not last long IMO. They usally find a way of getting banned. +1 i think it's good to have debates and different views
AnonI agree homie.
Where would this leave the likes of people like me after all the blood, sweat and tears i have put into the board?
AnonMuch agreed bro
AnonYour title could be "The Biggest Baddest Motherfucking MOD" lol. I actually would insist that MODS keep titles and points they earned.
Furthermore, my idea was to start this system for future members, not convert existing members.
I understand your thinking bro i think its a good post.............. comments should bring the answers you desire i think. +3 for thinking about how to help eroids and end the BS that we are all accustomed to lately.
AnonJust was thinking outside the box. Thank you for seeing that big homie.
Give them a vote if you find it helpful.Permalinknoob941budda you are an asset to the community and i see you all over the place very much involved and helping others ....but the year system i think is not so good because there are guys who join with knowledge beyond their time on eroids.....i had a guy help with my bloods a couple weeks back and he was very new to the site so at first i glanced at the long ass message he left and went on about my business looking for a vet's imput...only to discover that this guy is in the medical field and could decode my bloods down to the moncytes and dlms and what have you....alot of people in the know...have no idea eroids exists and when they find us have volumes and decades of knowledge as soon as they join
AnonThank you and I have seen you on threads and your an asset as well to Eroids. The year system simply establishes a membership date and isnt predicated on the knowledge a person possess. We need to shift our paradigm from assuming that "newer" members are clueless (I'm not accusing you of this). But I've been high ranking members give questionable advice and I've been surprised by the level of intellect a newer member may have.
Give them a vote if you find it helpful.Permalinknoob941i am/was guilty of the new=dumb mindset but i am truly trying to look beyond the no avitar 3 karma thing and really base my opinions by the info the op gives....great post brother.....it is for sure bringing to light the way i view other members...thanks
the user named WhyNot is a prime example, We joined about the same time, but the guy has just shot up in the rankings, It's not from pics either. He just posts tons of useful info. I think he works at a TRT clinic or something.
AnonAlthough I respectively disagree I dont think you someone shiukd have neg you. Especially with out saying why. So ill shoot you a thumbs up
AnonAppreciate that brother. I didnt understand that negative vote either lol but no hard feelings whomever that person may be.
current system seems to work pretty good. Karma whores face the wrath, and guys that post great info shoot up quickly.
But you still get a plus one for the thought you've put into this.
of course............ +3 lol
AnonAppreciate your opinion. I like our current system. Also your right BFG and the MODS do a great job at spotting the karma whoring.
You have good points but one could find a weakness in each of your three new ratings number method.
1st number: there have been numerous random posts lately by people(2011, 2012 members) asking where certain sources are in opem forum; not calling them out just saying we shouldnt seek wisdom from some that cant read and follow simple rules...im also not saying that members from 2011,2012 dont have more knowledge or exp then most just talking about the few lazy ones that started a membership three years ago and only come on once and a while that would be promoted in your new system.
2: reviews: great idea no way to measure its accuracy. How do we know who is using what and when they are using it and how accurate are the results???...at least in the current system you can search a few pages through a sources reviews and see 20 post from noobs or transcient buyers that say its "fire!"..to say a buddhabody who is a lvl 3 and you can look at his pics and see he is ripoed and pictures of shit he buys to differentiate between what reviews are shills, just bs, and honest all on your own.
3: pictures. This can be the most abused increase there is. One could add a pic daily of each of his bottles to improve..not saying that someone showing daily improvement pics is not an investment in the community, because it is and should be incouraged, but and there is always a but people abuse the system.
Just saying these are some issues i came up with.
I like our current system its easy for me to tell who i want to listen to upon what they write: for example if a lvl 3 is giving bad advice to a noob the mods punish or let them know its wrong...so this really solves the whole guy been here for 3 months and is a lvl 2 or lvl 3 and cant be looked up too...God bless him for putting in the dillegence with his workouts and here at our site that made them a lvl2/3...i have been here since july'13 and i love it whatever system we use or not im still gonna be here everyday just like the gym and just like my diet ; the show goes on.
Just my opinion
RustyhookerThise sudden 2011's popping up are part of those banned or disappeared for getying dirty dirty and effing up this site. That's how th hey announce their return to their clique so they can further eff up things.
AnonLol
AnonThank you for your response to address a couple of points you made.
Addressing lazy members in our new system would be easy to identify. Just go to their profile and see how many comments that have made. If it reads 355, I would say that member is involved.
When it comes to reviews, there is no way of knowing that good ones from bad ones. However I doubt someone would not get flagged for an bad review as they are flagged now.
Posting pics just shows your involvement in the community. Our members here call out people all the time who karma whore with pics and would do so, under my proposed system.
You make valid points and presented a good argument. Thank you
Give them a vote if you find it helpful.PermalinkLike i said im here to the end no matter what system we use.:) ...+1 for you taking the time to put some thing together to better our community whether they take it and run with it or not.
SilverbackdMy 2 cents is leave it how it is...if it aint broke dnt try to fix it...ppl just gonna find a way to take advantage of tht....
AnonI dont believe it to be broke either but it does have some concerning cracks in it. Thanks for your opinion.
Give them a vote if you find it helpful.PermalinkSilverbackdI agree...im just saying why go thru all the hassle to get it change when somebody at home with alot of time on their hands to sit and figure out how to manipulate the new system...its a good idea tho
AnonJust because others might conspire to fraud our community doesnt mean we shouldnt put forth efforts to stregthen our system of karma.
