Leg Press Calf Strain / 2 session Leg work
Ok people so today was leg day- I always start out with 5-10 min of cardio to warm up-
I started with leg press 7plates ea side-
By time I completed 13ea side as I stood my right lower calf felt very tight-
Not a cramp and not the Achilles -
The pain was not severe but was a nuisance the rest of my workout and I continued with my leg press, hackand curls- (I split legs into two different groups the last 3-4 wks)
I feel it now as I walk around -
The tenderness is in the middle lower of calf-
Any thoughts on what I did and what I should do?
Has anyone actually injured a calf on leg press-?
I think it may of happened as I adjusted my stance under load but am not exactly sure-
Also- does any of you also split legs into two sessions?
Like I have started a regimen of :
Session1 legs- squats leg press, hack and extensions/curls
Session 2- hamstrings and calfs x 2 per wk
The only reason I've switched to this format is because I don't have to tear up entire leg and cripple me for 1-2 days-
I find the pain and disruption to my normal daily activities is less of problem if I don't work over entire leg-
Thoughts?

I am a runner and get calf strains sometimes. The best tool I use is a foam roller. There are several videos on youtube on how to use it. You may want to try it out and see if it helps. you can also try a tennis ball but I like the roller better. Also you may try KT tape to stabilize it while you workout.
Thx bro
How long to heal?
It seems better this am from last night
as far as getting back to running it took about two weeks. I am not sure about weightlifting movements. hope you have a speedy recovery.
It already feels improved
Thx
although I have ben injury free for several months, rolling is a part of my warm up and cool down before every run. good to hear your getting better
I had this happen to me as well like maybe 2 months ago. I can still tell it is a little tight sometimes. I think what caused it for me as I had a decent amount of weight on leg press and my calves where relaxed before I pushed off and the sudden strain on the calf was too much I guess. Was kind of a shitty leg press. Live and learn lol. I'd ice and elevate then after a few days or week add ice and heat. Also foam roll helps.
Ubet and thx
The damn TNE got me lifting crazy with high reps
I am doing 15-20 reps with 13-14 plates each side perfect form but ur right I think my calfs are the weak link in the system
lol I took tne before my workout as well
Pain in your calfs after doing leg presses? Improper form or too much weight and overcompensating by using your calves. How are you positioning your feet? I place my feet straight and slightly 6-9 inches apart and keep them perfectly straight. After3 or 4 if I notice my form start to suck I fix it. The only pain I get is in my hams and glutes as well as my Quads.
I hear you-
Don't have pain in calfs while doing movement but when completed 4 set with 13 plates ea side when I stood up to get drink rt calf was very tight-
I have worked hard on proper form -
I bury my ass in seat- arch back , I place feet further apart than you and slightly pointing outward-
I guess and I adjusted my feet slightly I must have overloaded and stress calf-
It's sore
its your form, your feet should be completely straight and shoulder width apart or closer together, the closer the better if you are working your quads, inner quads farther apart. Also how high up the press you go will also affect your muscles. the lower your feet are on the machine, the more the quads will work.
U got it-
But always pointed feet out slightly cuz when I first started that's way I was taught to keep pressure off knees
My foot pointing out is what places too much pressure on inner mid calf as I recreate the form
Already feel improvement
Thx
Awesome, stay safe!
do you feel it when you squat down ?
Not at all-
Cuz she you squat pressure is on heel
- when I walk or pull toes up
If I tried to squat on my toes then yes -
But feel it more when leg is straight and toes come up
