Hydrating with IV's
ad
Past few months I have been strict with my H2O intake and drinking the right amount thought out the day. A buddy of mine made a joke to me and said " damm you drink a lot of water why don't you just hook yourself up to an IV so you don't have to drink so much?"
Although it was a joke I thought to my self, that might not be an bad idea. Assuming you have all the proper equipment and training to administer an IV ( or know someone who can help) what is everyone's position on hooking up to an IV, say at night before bed when reading a book or watching TV? Would this be an overkill?

the question is where to get these nutrient bags for iv. and if they are cost effective. i am very interested cause the heat wave has been affecting my workout. and i neeed more water, but im so bloated drinking my preworkout shake already.
Vehemently ask you to not do this at all!
It's dangerous and just drink as much water as you need!
AnonI have had a lot of IV bags dripped in to me, of varying substances. I love it but dont think Id ever do it at home, but I have no medical background. If you are comfortable with finding a vein and not infiltrating then go for it, why not drip nutrients in too though. Thats one of the things I get dripped in.
I do it when I am deployed in a humid and extremely hot environment. Also to prevent electrolyte flushing when training hard. It is a great way to hydrate bypassing the stomach it leaves more room for calories not having that full feeling from water intake.
waltrit's really not hard to drink a gallon and a half or so of water everyday without an IV...
I don't disagree, I am just ignorant about IV's and wanted to see what people with experience had to say
If you are hydrated your body won't intake it that fast, you will be sitting there for a long ass time waiting for the bag to empty.. Now if you are dehydrated then you body will kill that iv in 30 or so minutes, possibly faster depending on how much water you need
This is wrong unless you or the arm you are infusing is anasarcic (severely swollen). You'll just start pissing like mad getting fluids if you are hydrated unless you dont have kidneys. There is no reason for fluid infusion if you are awake and can swallow unless you are hurling and/ or too sick to catch up your fluids. All you will risk is an infection at/from the needle site. I will say though if you are sick and given chilled bag of saline run wide open its a very pleasant sensation.
