+ 1 Home blood pressure monitor failure

ad

So I've been monitoring my bp a lot lately and noticed it was creaping up a bit so I decided to get my meds increased as it had climbed to 160/90 at times after being active. My doc suggested I bring my monitor in from home to compare so they could use my readings from home to adjust meds if necessary. The findings were disturbing. My monitor read 160/90 the electronic one in the office read 140/90. So they did it the old fashioned way and it was 135/85. And this isn't a cheap model I have.

So now I need to get another bp monitor is the bad news the good news is my bp is right where it needs to be

So if you are relying on a home monitor take it in to a clinic to get your bp checked. They do it for free and compare. My doc said if it was 10 points or less off they would trust it. Not sure about you but my heart and my life is more important that my cycle

Stay safe and healthy

Bump. Seeing some posts on bp

Bump. Dropped the test after a bp spike. I was running 200 mg test e weekly. Bp suddenly went from 130/80 to 155/90. Going to donate blood soon. Just in case of high hemo. Bloods also coming in a week and a half from my regular doctor so I will have it figured out soon. Keep an eye on that bp fellas as you only have one heart

No doubt. I just got ordered off my BP meds finally. Been running 123/70 2weeks ago and then 117/62 this week. This past week was 9 days without my BP meds. I’m on Test and Deca and those are the best readings I’ve had in a few years.

What did you do to lower it so that you could get off the meds. High BP is genetic for me but any tricks to lower it a bit might help boss

I use Hawthorn Berry extract & it helps me bro & especially on cycle I will double it by taking a normal dose am & again before bed.

fusebox's picture

I've been using that. I'll double the dose and I've also been told ashwagna root or something like that caused someone to have their blood pressure go to low that they almost fainted. But they had normal pressure to start.

I’ve never used that, but I’ve seen it on a list along with celery seed. I’ve never used either of them though. I do also take an adult low dose aspirin every am. Keep us updated bro!

30g of carbs a day for the last 25 days. No sugar at all and 5qts of water a day. My blood pressure was crazy after years of Thinking it wouldn’t happen to me. I’ve been running lots of gear along with being 250+ for the last 8yrs. I loved being huge but it takes a toll on the body.

Water is of key importance along with avoiding excess salt like the plague. And obviously the more gear the higher the number too. Us older guys need to keep it real. I am 240 as well bro so I can totally relate.

I donated yesterday and when she checked my BP before giving it was the best read I have had in quite awhile 122/88. Just on test these days tho 200mg per week

Can't tomorrow. Next week for sure boss. Just checked it for shits n GS and its 145/70 with a 60 for a pulse. MF. Not far off

It's surprising the things that pop up with little to no warning. At least most of us are smart enough to monitor things and not just expect everything to be ok.

It is because you need the extra large cuff. The standard ones are made for a maximum 15" arm.

I used to be a paramedic and can tell you that the home monitors are notorious for being a bit off compared to the old fashioned way.

Dickkhead's picture

You don't mean the sphygmomanometers with the big column of mercury do you? I remember those from my childhood.

BlackSam's picture

It's just fun to say sphygmomanometer ...but nah not the ones they use at the hospital. Just a basic BP cuff and a stethoscope and if you know what you're doing...much more accurate.

kodiakGRRL's picture

I find that trying to do it on myself increases my blood pressure ...

Dickkhead's picture

Dumb question but just want to check. My arms don't fit in a standard cuff. If someone tries to use a standard cuff on me the reading will be sky high. Do you have a big enough cuff on your home monitor?

Lilbear's picture

I have the same problem. The largest cuff they make for my bp monitor is 17. What I do is place it on my fore arm.

I got that idea from a doctors office I went to that my arm did not fit the cuff. They slapped it on my forearm. She said it was good enough as long as it's close to the arteries. Not sure if that helps

fusebox's picture

Now that you mention that the one I have is a 17 inch cuff and the one they used in the clinic was a 20 inch cuff. I'm gonna see if I can buy a larger cuff for mine and see if it changes. Thanks

The nurse at my doc uses the 20" on me as well. I go from freaked out to relieved as soon as she runs it,lol.
