Gyms in the UK

ad

Hi everyone was just wondering on the general thinking before I commit to buying more home equipment at the current extortionate prices.

It looks like the government gonna extend lockdown for another 3 weeks and then maybe start relaxing it due to the economy so do you guys think thats when the gyms may reopen and how would that even work do you think like a limit on numbers inside and a one in one out like the shops?

Just trying gauge the general thinking of the community.

Stay safe

I'm going to hold on from buying gym equipment for now as prices are just ridiculous or majority of places are out of stock. Once the gym's reopen and stock levels return I will purchase some equipment and train at home till COVID comes down.

I think there will be people selling their equipment once the gyms reopen.

As much as I love the gym, even if they open next week I’ll probably avoid them until things calm down to a more reasonable level and we have better resources to deal with this pandemic. I come in contact with plenty of over 75 and vulnerable people in my day and it would be extremely easy to pass it over to them if I wasn’t careful.

Buy some home gym gear, potentially save lives and feel sorry for the bros who don’t have a a woman at home ha.

Very true mate, my wife is pregnant so I would also need to be very careful.

At least Mcdonalds and Kfc are closed or I would be making all kinds of the wrong gains haha.

I would kill a KFC!

Good luck with your wife, I would have more luck negotiating with ISIS than my missus when she was pregnant.

Tell me about it. I mentioned donuts once in the morning when my woman was pregnant with our son. I came back with muffins and she wasn’t having it. I had to drive back to the bakery and get donuts. She nagged next until I left. She told me you can’t talk about all these delicious donuts to a pregnant woman then come back with muffins.

Hope you got the right doughnuts! I remember driving around 4/5 stores at around midnight looking for a unusual fizzy drink that she was craving. Didn’t dare not come back with it

Get six 20kg's, some 10's and 5's and a barbell. The staple of everything then a power rack, bench/utility bench - You cannot go wrong with any of that stuff and you'll get so much fun and use out of it over time you'll never ever regret it :-)

I definitely plan to invest in some, weighted dips and pull ups get old once you have done days and days of them, I would love to feel some DOMS in my legs again. Weights are going for around £2 per kg which is crazy as I was seeing a decent set of 100kg for under £100 before this started.

It's gonna take more than that with the situation in the UK, so buy it as much as you can. I wish I can buy in my country but almost everyone ran out of stock

You can NEVER go wrong with having equipment at home in my eye's - None of us know how long this will ultimately go on for and its not like food or anything else that has an expiry on it, you can use it Forever!! Just keep on adding to it over time .....

Think of all those occasions where you've thought I really can't be arsed to go to the gym tonight, driving, parking & getting ready etc. That's when you just train at home in your own space without getting distracted by others in the gym wanting to chat :-)

Yeah I agree but the prices people are charging at the moment is stupidly high and at the same time I am trying to spend less incase I get any issues with work/money.

Its a crazy time for sure.

My theory is if you can make do with as little as possible hold off on getting anything new for now. Give it 6 months after things start opening again and there will be a surplus of cheap second hand stuff up for grabs. It's like new years resolutioners ten fold because all these people now have time and realise how little exercise they did. Some will keep at it but I imagine once people go back to work weights will begin to gather dust before inevitably going up for sale

I think nobody knows how it will be, I heard that gyms reopen end of May!

Who knows.. getting stuff for home can’t hurt. You never know if there is going to be a second surge of this crap later on down the road.
