fighters, cycling, and training
so i have an MMA fight in the beginning of the year. its amateur so im not worried about being tested. everyone I know who fights has never been hit for a random test at amateur unless you looked physically obvious to be on something. ive been busting ass to cut weight. when i started i was at 212-220 pounds somewhere in that area. im still on my cycle for another 8 weeks. which will give me about 8 weeks before the fight with nothing in me. i have dropped to a really great 183 pounds morning weight after morning pee and poo. the cut off is 171 for welter weight and its same day weigh in. i want to be with in five to eight pounds of weigh in weight. i must say its been the biggest challenge being on this cycle and cutting size and keeping the strength and endurance. im running deca, mast, test e, and anavar. im doing two a day training sessions, up to 5 hours a day or more. ive never focused this hard on diet before. ive completely revamped all my exercises. im doing complex intervals, and i got to say they are probably the most difficult routines i have ever done. i dont run, so this is how i get my cardio, endurance and strength.
I know we got a other fighters lurking around here. what have you guys done as far as cycles, diet, training, and what advice can you give me.
my cardio right now is amazing, im doing heavy sparring 10 minute rounds up to 5 rounds which can consist of submission wrestling, mui thia, boxing, wrestling or straight mma, 1 minute break between rounds, and i feel great. this is after all the other stuff i do as far as, mitt work, drills, ground work, bag work and intervals.
so fill me in fighters. lets hear your experiences.
i wasnt sure where the best place for this topic was since its so broad a topic.

So there are definitely things you should steer clear of as they will totally kill your endurance. You also have to be careful about adding too much weight too fast. You have things like foot work , flexibility and hand speed to try and maintain. Packing on a bunch of muscle is going to tire you out very quickly in a fight if it isn't done gradually. If you're accustomed to a particular pace in a fight and you train to maintain that pace, then you gain 25lbs of muscle over the corse of a cycle, you will have major endurance issues. Your opponent won't have to go for the KO. You might lay down on your own by the end of round 1. Another thing is your training. You will have to ramp up your training. All the drills we used to run for strength and conditioning are. So much different than chillin out on a flat bench and lifting a bunch of weight then chillin again. We go hard non stop to try and mimic fight speed/intensity well I was taught that way anyway. We actually trained at a higher rate so the fight itself as a breeze compared to training. Anyway, I'm getting off track here. My point is you will have to consider all these factors during your cycle and monitor every minuet detail. Make note of changes and work on them. Footwork will change drastically when you're used to your body being capable of doing certain things at a particular speed. You will feel heavy and off balance if you don't adapt with your body. Hand speed and full range of motion in your punches (kicks too I guess). If you really pack on muscle you'll be losing flexibility along with mobility. The biggest deal IMO is your wind. God damn that shit changes when you gain weight. You need your endurance to stay at a high level. Some AAS will flat out kill it! If you can't breathe, you can't fight. I don't care how much talent and skill you have. So these things among others) will be major factors in your cycle. If you're doing this to perform better in training for a fight, then you won't need to be running cycles like a bodybuilder. If you want to be a bodybuilder , hang the gloves up. You can't be both! You caloric intake is going to be a major factor. I assume you already know what you need to do in the food dept and have a routine in your diet with carb loads and recovery meals. As far as compounds go, like I said , short esters are the way to go. Or at least the secondary compound. I believe that one big flaw we had when I started using aas was not using testosterone as a base. We didn't consider shutting down the htpa or anything along those lines. We ran specific compounds , usually alone or with an oral like Halo, Cheques or Var. Testosterone will cause weight gain (which is why most of us stayed away) unlike some of the other compounds. But mow i know more about it thanks to my bodybuilder friends at eroids. I think it can be used in low doses safely with minimal weight gain if done correctly. I see you sent me a pm and ill reply ASAP. But yes, there are some things I'm sure I could help out with and cycle ideas I can give you. There are also other PED's that aren't related to AAS that help a lot. Some are probably not a great idea like stimulants and others may be a big help to you. We'll chat a little later today.
im training complex intervals, which is super high intensity. they are compound exercises. things like clean presses. shoulder press dumbell lunge, and so on. each thing involves at least more than one muscle group. they arent done at heavy weights. typically low to medium weight. i will do timed sets of at least 6-8 compounds. with one minute break than start all over. or i do it 12+ reps. its all done at the highest intensity possible. i hate to run and to be honest this routine has done more for my fight cardio than anything else ive ever done. its amazing. plus my strength is still there. i am more explosive now too. i really think these add to speed over all. we do at least an hour of just foot work drills a day. than mitt work and such. youre right to, since ive cut the extra muscle my endurance and cardio have quadrupled. when i started and i was well over 200 pounds it was a struggle to last 5 minutes sparring. now i can spar for 50 minutes and do bag work and speed drills. im only hoping to get better and improve.
I would substitute Deca in the future with Bold acetate. Make sure your potassium, magnesium, and zinc, is well balanced to prevent severe cramping which can lead immediately to tears. I agree with with Nitti shorter esters are better for control and adjustments as well as when you turn pro you want to start getting to know how long it will take to clean up for the blood tests. That is something if being pro is your goal is a must know. I never juiced when I wrestled and did pro thai boxing but now I obviously do and I train with some well known pros. But I don't have to worry about testing so I use all types. I have found with heavy PT for the being in the military and MMA that having my vitamins and electrolytes well balanced is essential while on cycle. Because that will give the above problems that I stated, I learned this the hard way a while back. I did not need to be so diligent before the steroids. But they definitely play into those deficiencies in a big way.
the culture of use is amazing with in the fight community. i too myself train with some well known fighters. for obvious reasons i cant and you cant say who they are. seems either everyone is using something or wants to use something or was using something. i see more use in combat sports than i do in the weight room. thanks for the advice on well balanced vitamins and electrolytes too.
I'll say this bro, short esters are the way to go. They are perfect for you actually. The pinning can be a pain in the balls but you get used to it. Boldenone is a great compound for training. But the undecyclate ester is crazy long. Luckily Boldenone acetate is readily available now. Test prop or suspension as your base with short ester change ups every 4 weeks worked perfectly for me. I love it still and can't stay away from it which is why I still look like I'm weighing in on fight night. You've heard the old stories of halo and cheque drops I'm sure. There are really limitless possibilities because ultimately it depends on the individual and how they react to training, diet and compounds. None of is are the same. You could run a typical bodybuilder cycle and get fantastic results and stay in fighting shape. The thing I'm confused about is why are you running Deca if you're cutting weight? Not that you can't cut on it, but its traditionally a bulker and notorious for bloat and even moon face! Moon face to my understanding is when you balloon up with water so badly that your fucking head looks like a full moon! Lol. Hit me up ,I see that were already friends
i wasnt planning on taking a fight till later next year in june or so. I was going to do a bulk again. than in march start my cut. the rest of my team mates got on me to get more serious about taking a fight sooner. i was mid cycle already with the deca so just stayed with it. i would agree with you completely on it not being the best choice for cutting. im actually running 400mg a week to and the cut is going really well to my surprise. i think i owe it more to the mast and var. i havent experienced any bloat at all. i dont mind pinning daily either. i did a 12 week tren cycle with mast p and test p and pinned daily on that. so i think if i decided to say on i will switch to props either way.
valhallas besti dont get running cycles while training for mma whatever, you cant put on muscle u gotta drop weight it seems always.. the life of a fight truthfully sounds so shitty.. i have so much respect for u guys though...good luck homie
try taking a cheque drop before ur fight, i hear you get pretty damn violent, its said that miketyson was on those when he bit evanders ear.. wish i was alive to be in that moment
to be honest with in the combat sports community, using AAS to some degree is more common than in the typical weight room. im not talking about BB just with in the weight room. this is at least my experience and exposure. out of all the fighters i hang with which is a lot. i only know of one that doesnt or hasnt used anything. this doesnt mean there isnt lots out there that dont but what i see and hear is a different story
Yeah if he knows he's not getting tested. Amatuer or not the state athletic commission is still overseeing It all. Cheques are typically used to intensify training the weeks closing in on the fight when you're really stepping it up sparring.
valhallas bestoh my bad i had no idea... they didnt used to test for those back in like the tyson days n shit?
Ohh you're not wrong. They use them during fights too. And Tyson was using them when he got hungry that one night. Lol. But I'm saying what they are supposed to be used for. Actually they are Supposed to be used to stop female dogs from going into heat. But we used them to ramp up sparring intensity.
valhallas bestYeah lmfao he was eating them like a bowl of lucky charms!! that made me laugh...were u a fighter?
but u could use those things before a fight to makeyou more of an animal and not show up on a test? lmfao female dogs in heat i wonder who the first guy to try that was, whatta pioneer, like hmmm these are used to for female dogs in heat, but fuck it lets take it and see what happens... so lucky im not like one the first people to ever try and learn to use steroids doing all the grunt workk,
You're cycling what? Deca? You know it's detectable for 18 months? And I wouldn't touch it if I were training unless I was moving up a weight class or 3 lol. Yeah I have some tricks. But usually my advice is so unorthodox in these forums (there are bodybuilders around here apparently ,ssshhh! I don't want them to hear this) since bodybuilders think their way is the only way to run aas! Ok, that's not fair, usually it's a bodybuilding forum that a fighter is forced to go to when discussion or learning about aas so we have to endure getting trashed in the forums for our cycles. But this isn't a bodybuilding site! Send me a request and we'll chat in private!
RustyhookerDamn! Hope ya crush em!! Full tilt bustin ass....high five!
