Early workouts

ad

My mornings normally consist of a proteins/ground oats shake immediately when I wake up, then scrambled egg whites toast and maybe a potato for breakfast.
Tomorrow I change my routine, because of work, and I will be going to the gym at 5 AM. What should I eat before I work out? Oats and protein shake alone, or the shake and the eggs?
I planned on pounding the shake right when I woke up and then waiting till after I work out To eat my egg breakfast.

Just finished a sick back routine ( considering my right hand is in a cast from elbow to fingers)
I did shake & banana - gym - cold eggs & toast in Tupperware while driving to work. Working well so far.
Geeze I bring a lot of food to work with me... 2 wal mart bags full of Tupperware, full sandwich bags, bottles and a spork! Lol

I'm a 5 am lifter. I'll take a pre-workout drink or just something caffeinated. That's about it for me. However.. I do, most nights around 1:30-2:00 am eat a chicken breast or two. I usually have a bunch of chicken breasts pre-cooked in a zip lock bag in my refrigerator.

nothing like a half asleep cold chicken breast, or even better cold salmon.

Lol, I prefer salmon to chicken except when cold. I can't do salmon cold and half asleep.. I've got no problem choking down a cold chicken breast but salmon.... Yuck can't to it.

Your plan is what works for me. I shake it up, a.m. Lifts then get home and and turn the stove on. Lately I have been craving red meat earily and the fish, eggs, and chix in the mid-day and evening. Almost forgot caffeine,And A LOT I take just enough to make me sick the back it off a hair. Man I'm a grouch with out coffee.

When I hit it early I take my oats 1/2 cup let them sit in fridge over night with cinnamon. I cook my eggs the night before too 10 egg whites to be exact. Upon waking I pop it in the micro wave for a min and a half then eat it like a rabid dog...lol.....and drink 20oz black coffee on the way to the gym with a protein shake and banana after

I work out early some days due to work as well. My first meal doesn't change. Eggs, oats, and coffee!

I would definitely try and get some carbs in your system before you hit the gym. Maybe some fruit like a banana and an apple as well as a protein shake. I have carb powder that mix with my shakes that is 50% dextrose and 50% maltodextrin. So depending on how your stomach is you might want to do something like that. Im not a morning person so I don't think I could stomach it in the morning and I would feel sluggish at the gym so I would probably eat a banana with a scoop of protein powder and a coffee. But were all different so try some different things and find what makes you feel best. I would eat a nice meal after I got back.

In a perfect world I would try to eat a nice breakfast with eggs and oats an hour before the gym and have my shake after but that would mean you would have to be up at like 330 to cook and eat by 4 and I doubt you want to be doing that.

Drink a fast acting whey protein isolate shake before you lift and then have some solid food for your post-workout meal.
