+ 11 Boys - Check your nuts
This one is directed purely at the boys, but ladies feel free to chime in.
Before I continue, please be 100% clear I don't want sympathy etc, I've never been lick my wounds and feel sorry for myself. What I do want it to draw attention to something that I think most of us guys don't bother doing. Not something I particularly want to tell others about if I'm honest, but I think it's important that others learn from my mistake.
So a couple of months ago in the shower I noticed a lump in one of my testicles. No idea how long it had been there, I don't check to be honest. Sorry for the graphic details! Have to admit I've been fatigued a lot recently, but I've taken on a new role at work and have been spending too many hours there so I put it down to that. Did what I usually would do, ignored it, it will go away etc. Well it didn't, it still hasn't. Went to the doctor about three weeks ago, referred to specialist etc. Yesterday I was informed I have testicular cancer.
Quite a surreal experience yesterday to put it mildly. Defined currently as stage 2 so the prognosis is pretty good. Surgeon, (cross your legs lads), is sharpening his scalpel to remove Mr Left Testicle in the very near future, at this stage there is no sign of any spread elsewhere in the usual secondary areas. I'll obviously need chemo after the surgery, but should make a decent recovery. Statistically the numbers are pretty good.
Again - No sympathy. I'm uncomfortable typing this. If I'm truthful I've typed it and deleted it a couple of times as I'm not really one for sharing stuff like this. What I do want is simple. Guys - Check! Over here in the UK the women are lectured about breast cancer constantly, testicular cancer nowhere near as much.
Please please please CHECK. (Just don't pm me about your nuts ok)

I was just thinking about this the other day in the shower and the Lance Armstrong deal. Glad you caught it early Cat, you already got this beat brother.
Plenty of people way worse off mate. I'm fine to be honest. Wife is a bit upset and neurotic about it so I think it's probably harder on her!
I hope everything goes good for u and your family. Good luck sir
Wow brother that's tough! I hate that it I happening to you but I'm glad you caught it so early.
Here's to a speedy recovery brother!
Good luck with everything cat I'm sure it's gotta be a little scary, but you seem like the kind of guy that rolls with the punches and will come out on top ,again I wish you the best of luck .
All the luck and strength I have coming to you... Nothing but small hill for a mountain climber like you brother
Surgery next Friday, 12th June just confirmed.
Good luck brother. Prayers to you and the family.
Good luck man. Take it one step at a time and deal with what you know. Appreciate you sharing your story. You're right, there isn't enough awareness for men's cancers.
Damn brother I'm sad to ear that!!! You have already reacted like you got it, good!!! Being in this sport all these years as sculpt you in a warrior a fighter, we never let go, we keep pushing till you we can't do it no fuking more, ok so testicular cancer as a 95 % survival rate, you caught at stage 2, wich is very good, cause the real problem is at stage 4 the metastasis were the cancerous cells travel to lymph nodes and organs were it attaches to receptors to kill everything, also do you know if after surgery are you going to be doing chemotherapy or radiations? Cat brother I would be in warrior mode, any type of cancer is an eye opener that's just how it is, also wanted to remind everybody that testis cancer equals exactly to female breast cancer, my wife goes always once a year for a scan of here boobies, shes been doing since we've been together, for men we wouldn't neven think about going to an andrologist and getting you're junk checked, well cat I think you opened my eyes also, you know I think im going to make an appointment next week, to get checked, just in case, my wife is a nurse I just told and is happy, she will actually book my appt., CAT brother again you will power trogh and I'm sure you will be good, I got you in prares, keep us updated on what's up, remember power the fuck up, you got it brother!!!!!!
I'll be fine mate, just a flesh wound.....
Good time to benign work for scare, shit hitting the fan everywhere. Someone else can worry about it now for a change ;)
Ok good, nuts is nothing to mess with
Like you mentioned, it was tough to post this up. Much respect from me that you did post it up and created awareness.
We're here to help get you trough this especially when your on chemo and need some cheer. You got this bro, keep your head up!
Thanks mate - I'm sure all will be fine. Not looking firward to watching weight fall off me during chemo, but not a lot I can do about it so no point whining. I have a friend that went through it about 10 years ago, an ex professional football (soccer IF you must call it that) player. He's fine now, no reoccurrence, recovered pretty quickly. Ended his career early at only 31, but he's a top level coach now and has a great standard of health and fitness.
I get lucky and the wife handles my balls on a weekly basis, if she notices anything besides the occassional new grey hair she lets me know, cancer is no joke so have them do a full test on you as you might have some somewhere.else.
All done mate, appears only localised at present thankfully. I've got first class private health care with my job so stopped all the waiting for test / appointment / biopsy etc with the crap system we call the NHS.
Right on, stay healthy and fondle your balls as much as possible, you have the best excuse if you get caught!
That's not the best news but I'm sure you'll make a speedy recovery if it stays localised.
Ive actually been checking my balls on a regular basis. I'd heard of a friends friend who got testicular cancer and it got me thinking on, if your going to get it at least try find it early and have it dealt with.
At least you've a decent excuse for trt lol. Seriously tho, wishing you the best with this, just another battle for you to conquer big fella.
The TRT thing is very true. I get all my prescriptions for free as I'm on medication for life, so free test sounds like a bonus. Not like at my age any more kids were on the cards anyway
FUCK cancer!
PERIOD!
Thank you for having the balls(no pun intended) to address a serious issue with us. You always give out great advice and speak deep truths. Shows character to be able to discuss personal issues like this in open arena. Especially one on this platform where we are stereotyped as Neanderthals and crazed sweaty mutants with no regard for most sensitive issues.
Good advice and I wish you a speedy recovery.
I had two lumps removed many years ago that ended being nothing. One was a large calcium deposit and the other was a benign cyst. Needless to say I get my balls a sonogram once a year. They actually found two more calcium deposits last time around but I'm not having them removed this time because they are harmless. Good luck brother, at least they caught it early enough before something spread. Be well and good luck again
Thanks for sharing some very important and lifesaving advice brother C! I'm assuming most men do not check regularly, I know I don't! They advise women to do a self check examination once a month and men should follow the same protocol!
To reiterate, thanks for sharing some very solid advice!
Wishing you a most speedy recovery brother!
You know the funny thing? First question I asked, "is this going to mess with my competition in August?"
opticxHave them take both, the bulge distracts from the physique on stage anyways lol. I only kid
That was my first thought also, but we both know there is more to life than just competing now. Take care of yourself first and hoping all goes well for you.
You're a real trooper brother C! A great ambassador to our beloved sport! An upstanding man of integrity who possesses an indomitable spirit!
Their will be many competitions in your future!
rocketballzStage 2 is good as far as cancer goes...it means it hasn't metastasized. As long as it stays localized you should be fine; they will cut out the old one and likely put in a fake one. Do you think it has anything to do with running gear? You're a big tough burly mofo...you got this!
That's spot on. If it stays localised, then even if it reoccurs, which it often does, the stats are still good. It's when it spreads the problems start. For me the word "cancer" was quite intimidating, but it is only a name.
Good advice. Thanks for sharing. Who knows... you may even save someone's life. It's crazy how guys are all embarrassed to talk about this stuff while women go every year to the GYN and get prodded and violated in far worse ways then giving the nuts a squeeze and forget about what they go through during pregnancy and birth. As I always say, if men had to have babies the human race would cease to exist.
Of course wishing you the best!
opticxHow did you well errm know?
I always do the role around method once a month. Hope all turns out good for you bro!
