ad

Undercover IFBB's picture

Do you mean hyge possibly heal acne!?

vhman's picture

What myths are you referring to? Accutane's side effect have been well known and documented for over 30 years. Accutane is a great drug is used properly and with blood tests, but it should not be the go to drug for aas acne. Accutane is for advanced acne (cystic) and should only be used once every other avenue has been exhausted.

vhman's picture

This is from a dermatologist's site, promoting his wares. There are many medical journals that state the opposite and 99% of dermatologist follow the same protocol. They believe and so do I that Accutane is by far the best option out there for acne, but it needs to be used properly and your enzymes monitored. There is also mounting evidence out there that accutane can contribute to IBS and Crones. They Look, I'm not trying to get in a war with anyone, I just don't think that accutane should be people's first thing to go to when they get acne from aas. It should be a last resort and used with blood test. I just want safe information out there.

Brother, I had the same acne growing up 14-20, boils all over my back, I feel your pain. I couldn't wear white or wear heavy back packs to name a few things. Tried everything the doctor prescribed me, nothing worked. Went onto roacutaine for 6 months and I no longer have to worry about the severe pain. Shoot me a f/r is you need any advise on the drug. There are many things you must do while on roacutaine.

Bottom line and I may get negged for this but roacutaine as a VERY last resort does work, and work well!

vhman's picture

No worries about getting negged for solid info and your responsible use. Accutane is a last resort. It's the best for severe acne and only after everything has been tried. My only problem with it is that too many people start asking about accutane as soon as they have some from their cycle. There are lots of options that should be tried before jumping on this train, because there are some serious sides associated with it. Anyways, I'm glad that you found a solution to your issue and that it was successful.

I completely agree with you, both the physical and metal sides of the drugs are extreme. Without regular blood tests and monitoring you are asking for trouble. Thanks, it was 6 months of hell for both me and my girlfriend but to be able to swim in the sea again with confidence was well worth it.

Cool. Sorry if I took it the wrong way. I've used accutane when I was younger and have many family members who have as well. There is nothing better when acne gets to be a problem, like you mentioned. I'm just advocating safe and reasonable use and I'm glad you are as well. Best of luck!

I took it when I was a teen and during late 20's. I didn't get the depression side effects, however, my fat lipids were a little bit off. The doc had me lay off the fatty food...mind you back then, I was thin and did weights/running. The highest my dosage ever was was 80mg daily. That basically dried out my skin to the point of cracking and I had constant nose bleeds. Later, in my late 20's, I did about 40-60mg, which did the job and sides weren't as severe. Again, no depression. Bottomline is use accutane as last resort..try all OTC, then medicated stuff like Retina A gel before going for the nukes.

Be careful with accutane I took it when 16. I had monthly bloods for liver enzymes which only got a bit high. The worst part were the psychological effects man. It gave me a really bad depression. It also gave me vision problems. It also affected my joints nd muscles. Be careful with this stuff man powerful shit I had to withdrawl accutane due to these sides.

Yeah I decide to not take it. I probably go to doctor once I get my insurance back. Thanks bro.

Well bro I strongly recommend you look at other options first. Sea salt baths and Epsom salt baths help more than what you may think. 10-12 minutes soaking in a bath 3 or 4 times a week will help. Spot treatments help. If you've already exhausted these remedies there are also prescription topicals that can help. You can find them online surely. Minocycline and doxycycline both prescription caps not as harsh as accutane but works similar. The things about the prescription meds it will get worse before it gets better. Two weeks in you will be like damn this shit don't work....it does it just takes months. Things like spot treatments and baths take away redness and will make you less self conscious about acne. I mean hell bro that is the worst for me is when their red and very noticeable. Accutane is very harsh on your system. If you are sold on this route I would start out small of course running it 10-20 mg a day. You need to get bloods done also once a month....you sure you want to jump on this? Anyhow I know how you feel bro and it sucks the best remedy is time off cycle so your body can reject the toxins naturally. Good luck bro keep us updated.

There are some good recent threads about acne here. Use the search button and search acne protocal. Some really good info.
I also like a topical called Ziana, which is a gel mix of retin-a and clindamyacin. It works well.

Okay I appreciate it.

Accutane takes about three months to work and your acne usully gets worse before it gets better. Do not take it if you are on orals. Accutane is very bad for your liver enzymes. Most states won't let your doctor refill your prescription without monthly blood tests. It's easier to get oxycodone refilled than Accutane. If you are determined to jump on this train, go to a dermatologist and get bloods. You only have one liver. I hope you seriously consider alternatives before you jump on Accutane.

vhman's picture

It's both. The ipledge is for both men and women. My brother is a dermatologist and he is not allowed to refill if liver enzymes are not within range. The side effects of Accutane are well known and well documented and have been for over 30 years. It's a great drug if used properly and for the right reasons. I just see too many people jumping to Accutane as soon as they get some acne on their torso. I also see too many people recommending it like there are no serious side effects either.
Also, I was on Accutane when I was a teenager (over 20 years ago) and this was way before ipledge, and I still had to take monthly blood test and I couldn't get my refill unless my numbers were within range.

vhman's picture

Many things will raise your liver enzymes. I'm not sure what you're stating here. Are you saying that anyone should use Accutane as long as they use liver support?
If you read what I said, Accutane is the most effective medicine for advanced acne (cystic). That is not in dispute. What I am saying is that it should be used with caution and only after all other avenues have been excused, not as a first line to fight aas acne. I see too many people advising those with acne to jump on accutane. That is poor advice. It should be only taken with monthly bloods. I'm sure you would advise people get their bloods done with aas use. Then why the problem with bloods with accutane. It's has many more liver sides than traditional aas use. I don't see how this is a problem or being overly cautious. The serious sides are not disputable and people are not being overly cautious with this.

vhman's picture

I hope it works for you and that you are being careful and healthy with it. Let us know how it works for you. Usually it take about 3 months and it can get worse before it clears (you probably know that).

cmo25cent's picture

You nailed it. I posted before I read your comment.
