+ 11 How I lowered bad cholesterol numbers in 42 days to great numbers.

ad

So I was planning to start my cycle mid March and decided to get some blood work done February to make sure that I am healthy and what have you. Everything in my panel looked good till I got to the lipid section. My cholesterol were very bad to say the least. My doctor wanted to put me on statins saying that my numbers were really bad. I told her that I did not want to take statins and instead told her to give me a few months to lower the numbers myself.

At the time of that blood work I had been keto dieting for almost 3 months. my cholesterol numbers were as followed.

my numbers from 2/21/2017: total cholesterol: 277, triglycerides: 98, HDL: 48, LDL 209

cholesterol ratio: 5.8 (which is hight) range: <or= 5.0

my doctor wanted to put me on statins, I told her to give me a few months to get that number down

42 days later

my numbers from 4/4/2017: total cholesterol: 187, triglycerides: 52, HDL: 55, LDL 122

cholesterol ratio: 3.4 (which is ideal) range: <or= 5.0

you can check out my blood work cholesterol numbers here if you'd like:

my blood work cholesterol results

But pharmabruh, how did you go about lowering your cholesterol numbers?

The first thing I did was to pick up some vital supplements that have studies backing their positive effect on cholesterol.

thess are the supplements I bought for my cholesterol reducing cycle

Niacin flush 500 mgs per tablet. ( DO NOT GET THE "FLUSH FREE" NIACIN!)

Red yeast rice 600 mgs per capsule.

Omega 3 1000 mgs per capsule.

multi-vitamins

Garlic extract 100 mgs per capsule.

Soluble fiber supplement.

But pharmabruh, what were your dosages for these supplements??

The personal dosages I took of each supplement are as followed:

Niacin at 1000 mgs a day
Red Yeast rice at 1200 mgs a day
Omega 3 at 3000 mgs a day
1 multi-vitamin every morning
Garlic extract at 200 mgs a day
soluble fiber at 10 grams a day

So pharmabruh, you're telling me that if I take this without any dietary changes I am still going to lower my cholesterol?

No, I personally decided to make a few changes to my diet to improve the effects of these supplement in a more positive way.

what changes did you make to your diet, phramabruh??

Before, I was eating a diet that was very hight in animal fat. For example, I was eating a lot of ground beef that was 89% lean, I was eating about 10 whole eggs a day, I was not eating healthy fats, I was not consuming enough soluble fiber.
I decided to eat only egg whites, the leanest ground beef i could find, chicken breast, tuna and from time to time salmon. I also started to eat more veggies, 1 ounce of almonds (or other healthy fat nuts) 3 times a day, half an avocado everyday.

also, I try to keep my dietary cholesterol consumption at 250-300 mgs a day.

also, cut out all processed sugars from the diet. :-)

I hope that this has been an interesting read for you guys and hope that it can help some of you guys get your cholesterol levels back in range.

Currently following this protocol to hopefully head the same way- note also that some Red Yeast Extract doesn't contain everything you need "Red yeast rice contains chemicals that are similar to prescription statin medications. One of these, called monacolin K, has the same makeup as the drug lovastatin (Mevacor). Doctors prescribe statins to lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol levels and help reduce the risk of heart disease."

There's no question the fish oil works great I only trust Carlson or Solgar

X2. One of the most important supplements in anyone's diet. You need to be getting 900 of both DHA and EPA a day. Benefits are close to miraculous

I gotta look into those! Thanks

I use the Carlson, also. Supposedly no mercury. Gotta keep them in the refrigerator.

pharmabruh's picture

Sounds like some really good stuff

giardap's picture

But PHARMABRUH!...

Did you get a breakdown on LDL particle size?
Did the doctor check for inflammation markers... Anything going on there?

my doctor wanted to put me on statins
So was this based on the LDL reading?

pharmabruh's picture

She wanted to put me on statins because my

Total cholesterol/HDL ratio had me at 5.8 and it should be below 5.0

After my protocol my, total cholesterol/HDL ratio is currently 3.4 which is a big improvement. The ratio should be around 3.5 ideally.

pharmabruh's picture

Btw, I didn't get ldl partical size testing. I want to eventually to have more data on my cholesterol and what have you.

And as far as inflammatory markers go, I had them check out early October last year for a surgery I had. According to my doctor, they were in range, EKG reading was also "great" According to my doctors. Btw, this was last year and my cholesterol levels were out of whack then.

giardap's picture

Ok man, so there is a bit of a problem with that, possibly....

So, he/she is right to be concerned, as the ratios of either total chol or triG's, to LDL can be used to show risk for CVD and such. BUT... the ketogenic diet actually increases large LDL particle sizes thereby elevating the number.

Had you gotten a particle size check done, you would have confirmed the issue or confirmed larger (safe) particle sizes and no need to work on cholestorol.

In the future, if a doc is to prescribe statins without doing that check, it is eventually going to be considered malpractice.

kodiakGRRL's picture

The docs I have been to ALL prescribe statins if your cholesterol is too high ... regardless .... not that I took them ..

pharmabruh's picture

I've heard that from a lot of people with high cholesterol. Lol these docs aren't loyal. Lol.

But if you have low testosterone, god forbid you mentions testosterone replacement therapy

giardap's picture

Yeah, it's widespread malpractice and It's the same with blood pressure medicines.

The scary thing is that, I reckon, if you were to canvass these doctors all as to whether they know of the latest research that says such practices are pretty much wrong/useless and possibly/probably endangering life, they would say they are but still prescribe anyway and perpetuate the status quo

Greg's picture

The patient is to be blamed as well. For some stupid reason we think we shouldn't question our doctor.

My doc went straight for the statins. I asked what I could do instead to lower my cholesterol naturally. His attitude and expression was, "Seriously?" No one ever asks. And when instructed to change their diet and to exercise more; no one ever does. So they give up like mods trying to get people to write good reviews. It's hopeless, so they just prescribe the meds out of hand.

waterhead235's picture

The sheeple of the US are so stupid they don't know to question their doctors. They are too busy pumping their heads full of some stupid ass television show, or spending the majority of their lives on Facebook to give 2 shits about their health.

"Fuck it, the doc says take these pills and I can continue to be a lazy fuck and sit on my ass".

pharmabruh's picture

I completely agree with that. Some doctors get all defensive when you do questions them! Lol at least that's been my experience. It's like they hate to be challenge. Lol I can't wait till I show my doctor the results, that'll shut her up for a bit! Lol +1

CustyDog's picture

I feel lucky! My doc is always hesitant to prescribe anything and tells me to change my ways. He did scoffed when I told him, that I wanted to check for low T. The symptoms where there. He also told me, that he did not want to put me on Test. However, he went ahead and ordered a blood sample for test levels. They came back at 164. He did do a shit job on treating me for it. But you can find all the research that you need.

pharmabruh's picture

It's a she. And trust me, she looked happy and eager to write a scrip for statins. I told her, "wait a minute. I'm gonna make a couple of changes and get retested to see if i can improve them on my own. Sounds good?" Lol she was like "Okay, I'll retest you in 3 months"

42 days into my current program and everything looks good to me.

Regarding Large particle LDL testing, I really would like to get that soon! Hopely if I have some extra cash next time I get blood work, I'll make sure to add that to the test. Lol the more you learn the more you earn :-)

giardap's picture

Mad beyotch
Well done to you though, always good to question these things!

pharmabruh's picture

Thanks man! True that!

Manshit's picture

Good info!Another thing that can help is using rice bran oil for a lot of you cooking. It has higher beta sisterol levels than olive oil and a much higher smoke point. It also has around five times the gamma orozanol as olive oil.

Manshit's picture

olive oils has a low smoke point, once you reach that smoke point you start adulterating the oil and making transfats.Rice bran oil also has a much higher content of the beta sisterol and gama orozanol (sic)and thats what makes the magic happen. They act as a statin does like the red yeast rice.
i also use mct as well but never safflower or rapseed even though the are touted as heart healthy, both can cause the autoimmune system to act up in some people. The rapseed aka canola contains a high level of conjugated lenolenic acid which has shown to be a carcogin.

CustyDog's picture

Also, when you reach the smoke point, it starts to produce carcinogens!

Manshit's picture

exactly,so much better to use an oil with a higher smoke point, with the same or better statin profile.

pharmabruh's picture

I must say, this is very interesting stuff! I'll definitely have to look more into! Thanks for sharing man!

kodiakGRRL's picture

consider using MCTs to cook with olive oil not good for cooking and I wouldnt touch safflower oil

Manshit's picture

You are a very smart GRRL!!!!!

kodiakGRRL's picture

I ll have to dig up my info on it but I generally stick with MCTs I have yet to find anything bad written on it ..

Swole's picture

Yup this is how it was when I went though collage too. Food that contains cholesterol like egg yolks don't have an impact on chlosterol levels. It's more of the processed food that do.

I remember reading this article. Maybe after my cycle, I'll use all the same supplement that I used here but not limit the red meat, eat whole eggs but still keep simple and processed sugars out. I would like to see how it compares to my current limition on my diet as far as red meat goes, whole eggs, animal fat and products

But like I stated, I personally chanced my diet to possible enhance the supplement protocol I ran to lower my cholesterol

pharmabruh's picture

I complete agree with you on processed foods. I think they are extremely unhealthy for you. Processed sugars especially, they been shown to increase your OLD cholesterol.

I would be surprised they do work hand in hand to keep you sick and keep doctors in their payroll to fill a scrip

7gothic's picture

Anyone running gear should keep an eye on cholesterol... but another thing to watch (and just as dangerous) is hemoglobin/hematocrit .... thickening of the blood is often caused by the use of steroids and is a huge risk for a clot, stroke or heart attack.

pharmabruh's picture

I completely agree with you goth! In my old blood work I used to have pretty elevated RBC haemoglobin/hematocrit and while on gear it would be night even.

Did some research and learn to donate blood as often as possible. Doing double red blood donation or power red as some people call it help.

Still at times my hematocrit would be elevated. I heard that I was doing something wrong the night before donate. I was not drinking ant water 10-12 hours before my blood was drawn. My doctor actually point out that when fasting for blood work all I gotta fast is food. As far as water she recommend I drink plenty of water prior to bloodwork.

I did that with my most recent test and you can see how much my rbc and hemoglobin/hematocrit has improved.

so definite donate blood when on or off cycle. Plus always drink plenty of water and stat hydrated all day long.

Thanks for pointing that out gothic!

+1

DragonDog's picture

I just read a false high hematocrit level can happen when dehydrated. If you're on TRT that can mean discontinuation of test until hematocrit goes below 54%. Hydrate, hydrate, drown in water. Just no water on the brain.

7gothic's picture

Mine was so high they wouldnt accept my blood lol..... So I was about ready to draw my own when it finally started to drop... I was in the 20's. Could have stroked out. I watch it close now.

pharmabruh's picture

True That! The last time I did a cycle hemoglobin was at 17.5 and the lady at the red cross told me that any higher and they couldn't take it. I got lucky that I went in when I did. And like you now I keep a close eye on it too. And also donate as often as I can

7gothic's picture

You can talk about hair loss, acne, aggression, etc.... but hematocrit is one side effect that will get my attention. I like being big, but I like living better lol

pharmabruh's picture

Being big < being alive

True That! After learning what I've learn, I advice people on gear to donate blood as often as possible.

Nothing worst than side effect that can kill you. Lol
