+ 10 EBC Mandatory poses - What we are looking for

ad

Your posing is going to make or break you when trying to show off your physique so you really need to know the mandatories and how to execute them properly to show off your hard work. The actual poses may be unfamiliar to a lot of you so I put this little synopsis together so that all of you are doing the poses correctly and don't get disqualified for doing improper poses. The poses are standardized for a reason so that we can evaluate the total physique properly. You can't get cutesy on the bodybuilding stage during the mandatory rounds so don't think you can get cutesy here either thinking you can get away with it. Do the poses how they are intended and you will be just fine. I don't want to see you twisting your body half way around during your rear double biceps thinking you can take away the width of your waist. It won't fly here.

Posing properly is probably one of the hardest things there is in bodybuilding. So Practice it.

These are the 8 mandatory poses in bodybuilding that you will also need to do.

keep in mind we are also requiring a relaxed front and relaxed back in addition to the 8 mandatory poses you see in bodybuilding plus another pic of you with a dated newspaper. So don't forgot those.

Here are some vidios of those poses being done.

This is a good summary of how to set up the individual poses.

Last but not least just google the individual poses if you are still unclear on what they should look like. There are lots of tips and tricks to maximize the impact of these poses but I will leave that up to you to dig up. Also keep mind during your photoshoot that we need to see your entire body during each of these poses. Don't be cutting off those calves in your photo during your rear lat spread.

ENTIRE BODY MUST BE PRESENT IN EACH PHOTO

Makwa's picture

Another little tip for your photos.

When doing your side chest and triceps, you want to get a little twist to the camera to help show off more of your body, ie your chest. Doesn't have to be a big twist but just a little so we can get a hint of what your chest looks like in those shots instead of just your arm.

Makwa's picture

Note: I want everyone to at least make some attempt at actually flexing during your poses.

It is pretty easy to tell who is just standing there during the pose and not flexing vs flexing. You should be flexing just as hard during your beginning as your ending photos. I know you are trying to look flat and small during your beginning photos but don't try and pull a fast one over on us. It probably won't go over well. Take these beginning photos just as seriously and put the effort into them that I know you will be with your ending shots.

Also, please try to hit the poses correctly. I see the most problem so far with the front lat spread. You are actually supposed to flare the lats during this pose, so let us see them. Not just stand with your hands on your hips.

Def gonna study some of these . I'm only kinda good at doing the woman's physique poses. Sorry if I missed it what have women worn in past competitions for their pics i? Standard bikini ok? Bra, underware etc?

Makwa's picture

Whatever you are comfortable wearing. Bikini would be fine.

robb's picture

Making it so the top 10 all receive a prize is a great idea. Especially considering the amount that's at stake which still surprises me, it may even rise some more.

venooom's picture

ok, maybe there is already a post about it, but I couldn't find it (I have a flu right now and I'm not really persistent, could that be my apology :S) - what about posing suit - I suppose BB trunks are okay, but what about anything else?

Makwa's picture

You don't want to be wearing board shorts obviously. Pick appropriate attire so you are not covering up any of your physique that we are trying to judge. If it is covered up and we can't see it you are going to get docked for that. I would recommend BB trunks or classic physique trunks or something similar on those lines.

Greg's picture

Anything as long as the fig leaf is big enough to cover the figs.

haapinessgains's picture

Damn. Well I guess I'm out.... lol

Makwa's picture

Most definitely!

johnmarshall12's picture

This is all exciting! Will be amazing to view all contestants!

IrishMack's picture

So this ebc is basically an amateur/pro bodybuilder contest? So much for average joe. Good luck to all who enter!

Makwa's picture

The judging criteria has been set up so that it isn't just a straight BB contest. That wouldn't be fair to the majority of people on this site since I know of a few people on this site who probably win it hands down if that was the case. This is set up so the average joe does have a legit chance at taking top place. Couple tweaks yet in the scoring criteria but we should be getting it out soon so you should see how that is made possible.

Ozninjaguy's picture

Awesome! So if there is a category for hypothroidal, CHF, low Test, high Estrogen geriatrics with BPH - I'm definitely in! :-) I'm even training for the bicep pose...

Baller87's picture

mm say it again. people kill me

Ozninjaguy's picture

Hey mate - all good here, hope you are doing well. My post was just a bit of a dig at the whole concept. As IrishMack said - average Joe wont get a look in, as it's basically a pro-am/pro BB contest. But still, it will be interesting to see the changes between competitors.

Where I live the macho male with the 'big body' is still in vogue, so even though I'm carrying too much fat, I still get complements...funny how life is. Have a great weekend, and take care.

(PS - I know I don't qualify coz I wasn't holding a copy of USA Today - well, jeez, that dumbbell was heavy...it was at least 5lbs)

IrishMack's picture

Still, posing as a requirement extremely limits the pool of winners. I'm just saying the average Joe stands a very small chance. We watched the last ebc have average joes like crazy competing. Average Joes did not win, 2 pro's did. Winning came in 3rd because he knew how to pose and lets face it he has some sexy quads no homo. And with the pool being at that level, we are only going to see pro's winning. It's common sense. Having a bodybuilder judge an amateur contest ripens it with having a pro bodybuilder win.

Take that prize and split it and have another ebc for the gym rat because lets face it; the vast majority of guys here are that.

WINNING's picture

;)

IrishMack's picture

Hello quadzilla hehe.

Carlos Danger's picture

Yet the person with the most top 5 places was Gfit. He knew how to cut like nobody’s business. He also was smart enough to get fat beforehand and cut the fat almost completely out.

So my apologies for disagreeing but your thinking is flawed in my opinion.

IrishMack's picture

We will see how flawed at the end of this. I remembwr who won last time they were all pros/amateur beside winning. There was much controversy as well. I'm not entering so I'm just making sure it stays level but my vote would be useless.

Makwa's picture

Believe me alot of effort is being spent to make this a competition for the average joe. This isn't being scored like a NPC event where obviously the pros and others experienced competing in those events would be set up to win this. This is being catered to the average joe who most of the users on eroids are. Judge this like an NPC event and they probably have a slim chance. With our own unique Eroids EBC judging criteria now the average joe does not have to be intimidated and discouraged from entering. This is going to be anybody's ball game. Pro/amateur/average joe all have a legit chance.

IrishMack's picture

Carlos gave ne The details without spilling too much. It looks it could be anyones ballgame which is a good thing

Carlos Danger's picture

Winning didn’t even compete the last EBC. He competed in the EBC Fall/Winter 2013/2014. But yes I get your point.

Typically I wouldn’t continue back and forth but you’re a respected member and yes your opinion does count. It counts to me anyhow!

Since you’re in doubt/question of how serious this is for me/us, I’ll explain a couple of specific reasons Makwa’s was asked to join the EBC. He was my very first choice to bring on board to revamp the scoring system and to oversee the judges. The old scoring system Tread created was not a weighted system. The categories were all equal parts to the overall score. Each one was worth 5 points blanket value. The tweaks Mak has made was he made it weighted with each category counting for a specific percentage of the overall score. The highest percentage category is “overall change” ( hense the statement we keep making that this is not a true strict BB comp), the 2nd catergory with the highest percentage is “Definition” ( staying true to the goal of Cutter) that’s going to account for over 60% of the total score. It’s not complete as Mak stated because the guy has been spending hours and hours dialing it in. So my point is yes Average Joes actually have a place here and technically it is geared more for them than a Pro and that would make this the Average Joe competition you brought up.
Regarding past controversy, please name a Bb competition where there is not Controversy?? The Olympia always gets it right don’t you agree?!? Phil sure didn’t think so. He went on social media and YouTube crying to the world how he thought he was robbed. Shit every year the Olympia has been awarding pregnant men with their stomachs so swollen that they can’t pose for 15 seconds without their stomachs spilling over their trunks. You can go back 20yrs at the Olympia and somebody got robbed. It’s not as easy as you think. It’s a lot of work and reliance on other individuals who all have different views of what should be rewarded.
As an organizer you leave the judging up to the judges. All judges were picked becuase of their reputation around here and their commitment to Eroids.
In reality there’s not a single one BB comp anywhere that is 100% without controversy. But if in your opinion you think Italian and 99 Transam didn’t deserve 1–2 in the last EBC then I’m sorry I got to call bullshit. They deserved it hands down no question about it. Those two dudes shouldn’t have been penalized for being the two best who competed.

Brother I assure you we are not just out here typing shit on these pages without spending hours and hours behind the scene trying to make this the very best EBC ever thrown. Every past issue was singled out when reviewing this with Admin and Mak. Mak is part of the solution to make the EBC better.

Shit man we are even making it so the top 10 get prizes. So yeah average joes will get love. Part of the new overall scoring system was to make it specifically for them. I’m not sure what else I can do to reiterate that this competition is for average Joes and Pros (if that’s what you want to call them).
That was a detailed response out of respect for you bro. I hope that satisfies your concerns/doubts/questions.

For anyone else, you won’t get a response until we are finished. Let us work please. This shit isn’t easy. If we have to put out fires all the time we won’t get the shit done that needs to get done before this Competiton launches. The rules, scoring criteria and purse breakdown is all scheduled to be posted publicly. Just be patient please.
Thanks

You can pm me to not give out too many details you know that. And the PM stays between us or I lose my respect. With their being a top 10 then you are correct average joe has a chance of at least finishing. But 99 yes Italian no, Italian was and is a pro competitor. Maks introduction to judging is a good thing. He can use his experience from competing to know what to look for BUT it should end there. At least he can be able to spot who is a real competitor from the average. There is a lot of coin on the line so it needs to stay fair. I would not want to be in yours and Maks shoes.

IrishMack's picture

see for yourself his transformation. Even his hamstrings were tight, once again no homo.

This is definitely cool to see everyone so excited about this! It’s the first one I’ve experienced since being a member here so I’m excited to see how everyone performs. Unfortunately I’m not where I’d like to be right now to cut down but it’ll be cool seeing everyone else get down
