ad

I love salmon.

18 pieces salmon nigiri. Smother it in wasabi with a little dab of soy sauce.

1,080 calories
72 g protein
117 g carbs
36 g fat

Delicious. Nutritious.
And SO easy on the stomach. Digests quickly
I just wish it didn’t cost me $40.

Check this salmon recipe for you. I bulk make it and freeze leftovers for the future. Warms up well after being frozen.

Baked salmon, Kamala olives, feta, grape tomatoes, sweet onions, sun dried tomatoes, feta cheese, lemon juice, and avocado oil. What ever seasons you prefer, I use garlic powder, salt, pepper, paprika, oregano, and za’tar. Bake for 20-25 mins then mix it with whatever pasta you choose. I use protein pasta. It’s a big win.

Since I’m cutting I make a side dish without the feta. The feta gives it a creamy goodness but it’s still great without it.

I buy the ones that are yellow/orange from tip to tail. So damn sweet it’s like candy. The bromelain aiding digestion is just the cherry on top

I train in the am so i have a scoop of whey and a scoop of casein in a blender shake. And I eat a bowl of fruity pebbles with skim milk.

Dont use any shady taboo products so no need for "intra workout". I usually slam a protein shake after training then not long after will be steamed chick, broccoli, white rice w a little soy. Super clean and easy to digest even when bulking.
Ideally right after that meal, a little nap anywhere from 20 mins to an hour or two.

What do you eat when you splurge on a nice meal,

In a promo × 1
JohnnyHardGuy's picture

If I go out and really spend money. Its either on seafood or an exceptional steak.
Also have great local butchers that have something dry aged & dinosaur.
I eat steamed chic, broc, white rice often because I digest it very easily & If you can believe it, I really enjoy it. I try to really enjoy all my meals. I do velvet the cHic first so it does make it more enjoyable.
Fortunately, I learned to cook as a youngster & it has been a life saving skill. Especially when young & totally broke.

I've really been working on changing my taste buds so I've been on 100% natural foods. Beef rice and some 0 sugar soy sauce has been my main staple and honestly I've been loving it.

Ground beef and mashed sweet potato with ginger is a good one too. Mix it together and smash. But does that count as sugar?

Looks delicious, brother.

I actually prefer salmon as my last meal of the day.

Mine is pretty boring though…

Whey isolate, cream of rice (or oats), honey, and dates. Or simply rice with a lean protein like white fish or chicken.

I keep fats out of the pre and post-workout window as much as possible.

@Pandateston I just recently got on the dates cut up in my cream of rice. So good!! Especially on a high day, being able to crush a few dates and get a ton of carbs is so nice.

@Pandateston
I’ve been using dates pre workout , MAN no bloating just pure energy for me

Pandateston's picture

Yeah bro.

Big fan of dates pre and/or post-workout. Fast carbs, easy digestion, and great energy without feeling stuffed.

I hate feeling stuffed or burping between sets.

Novalentinehere's picture

You must be sub 10% if you’re that tight with your fats.

In a promo × 1
Pandateston's picture

Not yet, brother…

My approach is pretty old-school. I keep fats fairly low, usually around 10-12% of total macros, mostly coming naturally from food sources. Protein stays around 1.1-1.4g/lb (2.5-3.0g/kg), and the rest comes from carbs, adjusted depending on the phase.

I also try not to pair high carbs with high fats in the same meal whenever possible. Carbs drive insulin up, and insulin’s job is to shuttle nutrients into cells. Great for glycogen replenishment and muscle protein synthesis, but if you’re also eating a lot of fat at the same time, that’s a pretty efficient environment for storing dietary fat as well.

For me, high-fat meals around training don’t make much sense. They slow digestion, can make me feel lethargic, and take away room from carbs that I’d rather use for performance and recovery.

Refeeds or cheat meals are different. Every week or two I’ll enjoy a burger, sushi AYCE, or whatever sounds good. But 90% of the time I stick to the basics because that’s what works best for me.

Novalentinehere's picture

Fair enough, brother. I get the performance angle.

For me, 36g of fat in a 1,000+ calorie meal isn’t exactly “high fat,” especially when it’s coming with 72g protein and 117g carbs. I’m bulking, not stepping on stage.

I actually like that salmon nigiri sits light despite the fat content, and after smashing legs I can put away 18 pieces without feeling like I swallowed a brick.

Different goals, I guess. If I ever get sub-10% again, maybe I’ll start obsessing over keeping fats 20 feet away from my cream of rice. Lol

100%, brother.

No right or wrong. If you’re progressing, recovering well, and enjoying the process, you’re doing it right.

Different goals, different strategies. That’s bodybuilding.

Preach! Fats have little to not place pre and post. I try to be 5-10g fats in those meals max.

I’m old school too. 1-1.2g per pound, .35 x body weight for fats (.35 X 200lbs for instance 70g) then rest carbs. Wanna lose weight drop carbs. Wanna gain weight? Up carbs

In a promo × 1
SeeOhShow's picture

Old school but still 100% effective. I’ll finish my day today at ~500g carbs, 60g fats, 335g protein. Digestion is so much better with low fats. Pumps are insane too. Pop a berberine pill and digestive enzyme pill with my two biggest meals that have 130-150g of carbs in them

-Infidel-'s picture

Do you have a hard time putting all that food down? I have to supplment shakes in between meals for protein, and Im no where near 335 protein

In a promo × 3
SeeOhShow's picture

Nah running EQ I’m hungry as fuck all the time lol. I do drink one shake though that has 60g of protein. I get up 4:30am and lift/do my cardio before the girls get up and I make them breakfast. So I have a protein shake with chocolate fairlife, powdered PB, protein powder, ~100g of banana. Blend it up the night before, grab it from the fridge, do my shots, take my pills, go downstairs and hit the gym hard. Then from then on I’m eating regular food rest of the day. Chicken, rice, eggs, skyr, fruit, picanha (with the fat cap trimmed off), ground beef, sweet potatoes, and a ninja creami ice cream made with Fairlife, fat free cottage cheese, and sugar free pudding mix.

The protein adds up fast with all those. I eat pretty much the same things every day. It’s boring but I thrive off routine and i have my grocery haul down to a science so everything lasts exactly a week and I don’t throw anything out.

Wife and daughter get custom meals breakfast/lunch/dinner though. They don’t prescribe to my lifestyle nor am I going to force it upon them

-Infidel-'s picture

Be careful with chocolate fairlife… I read a report that it had high amounts of some type of contaminants , arsenic maybe. The other flavors all passed with flying colors… something about the chocolate.

With that said, I’m not sure if that was the powered protein or the after-mixed bottled protein shakes.

EQ does the same for me.. I need to cut down more bf before i think about using EQ, or I’ll end up eating cheeseburgers

SeeOhShow's picture

Thankfully I get tested regularly for heavy metals for my job and nothing has come up. But it’s the regular milk not the Core power protein drinks. Byrne dairy makes an ultra filtered milk too just like Fairlife that’s a little cheaper. I think Costco has their own version now too but I haven’t seen it at my store

But speaking of arsenic. They found unacceptable levels in Nerds candy. I bring that up because those heavy metals, such as lead and arsenic, are mostly an issue for kids/developing younger people.

-Infidel-'s picture

Yea... no candy, or soda, or any of that nonsense in my household. I cant imagine a dad allowing his son or daughter to eat candy on the regular... I get hallloween or going to a movie or whatever, but nerds are straight up sugar balls, not even sugar, high fructose corn syrup balls
