Anyone used Alkaline Water during Training?

ad

Happy Saturday Motherfuckerrrss!!!

It's a Clear Sunny Day over in Old Blighty - Not sure about the US today?

I know some Guy's are lucky enough not to get this, but many of us suffer from Acid Reflux when using Oral Steroids especially the harsher ones like Anadrol and DBol etc. It can be a real BITCH during training especially when you are laid down on a bench or bent over and often causes you to have to stop and reset. When mine begins once the time goes over 90 minutes I begin using Antacid tablets but the problem I find with them is that they can dry your mouth out badly cause saliva literally to disappear LOL I believe its all the Calcium in them and other drying powders.

Been doing some research into Alkaline drinks to help online and the best seems to always come out as being Alkaline Water that you can buy at the supermarket. It has a PH of 9 meaning its very Alkaline, supposedly it neutralizes stomach acid as soon as you swallow the stuff - In particual the enzyme called Pepsin that causes all of the throat and stomach lining burning sensation and irritation. So you can stay hydrated and lose the acid during training in theory. Others mentioned are Ginger Tea, Almond Milk and Coconut water but not too sure if I wanna drink those when lifting lol

Does anyone here use any of these things and can testify they work?

There is the option of Apple Cider vinegar too mixed with water, but I have yet to try this stuff and believe it is initially acidic before turning into an alkaline during digestion.

I pop an omeprazole every morning with my BP meds. I can run really high tren, crazy high orals, etc... no more Acid Reflux. Been a couple yrs now no issues just FYI. Also had gall bladder removed few yrs back, which is why I started a PPI. After gall bladder removal I started Pantaprozol which is even better btw... Then eventually tapered that down to 1 omprazole ED. Actually helps me digest my food better, keeps my G.I. working flawlessy, no more slowed gastric emptying, etc... Just my experience though. IMO it's appeared it's pretty safe to take omeprazole long term. We're all taking way worse shit every day than an omperazole, you know...

There are definitely situations where omeprazole can be taken long term, but it’s usually done under a doctor’s supervision. My GI doctor told me I could switch from pantoprazole to omeprazole if the cost of prescription meds became an issue. Since my insurance covers the full cost, I’ve stayed on pantoprazole.
I have GERD and Barrett’s esophagus, so I’ll likely be on a PPI for the rest of my life. Pantoprazole has honestly been life-changing. Before starting it, I was dealing with acid reflux flare-ups two to three times a day. I kept antacids everywhere—on my desk at work, in my car, on my nightstand—and even carried Tums in my pocket just to make sure I always had them.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I’ve never noticed any adverse effects using omeprazole for an extended period of time either. Eases my mind a bit after finding out I’ve been going past the “recommended” usage length.

Interesting mate - I see having your Gall bladder removed increases Acid reflux too as the bile is constantly dripped into the intestines rather than stored. What was the reason you had to have it removed buddy out of interest? Honestly man I just cannot imagine running Tren and Orals and getting ZERO Acid reflux!!! Must be amazing LOL

One day out of the blue just felt horrible, quickly turned into a sharp stabbing pain in the stomach area. Tried everything to tough it out but after 10-12 hrs couldn't take it anymore. Hit the ER, couple xrays or an MRI or something later and they told me it was a gall stone, wasn't moving. Standard procedure in the states is they just remove the Gallbladder, which I thought was pretty fucked up. Cranked up the IV pain meds to a 10 until they could get me into surgery that next morning. Laparoscopic surgery(robot), minimally invasive. After that I was fine again. Then came the adjustment of getting used to how I now digested food slightly different not having a gall bladder. Many peeps have to add stuff like Ox Bile or Betaine HCl to make up for the lack of enough acid in the stomach afterwards, but for me it ended up being the opposite. First year was some trial and error... Fast forward a couple yrs and now I still pop an omeprazol every day and I feel like I digest my food better than ever tbh. Thank God. I was really worried it would affect my gains.

I take omeprazole every day too I have GERD, my GI doctor told me to make sure you watch you vit c and especially calcium, daily PPI meds can make your body unable to extract calcium out of the food you eat and cause you to be deficient. I take calcium supps too now for that reason and 500mg vit c daily.

I feel like we're good to go being on gear year around. I've taken enough GH these last few years that my bones outta be made of adamantium by now, lol. I know GH significantly influences calcium metabolism, generally promoting bone turnover and increasing calcium retention, which improves bone density. Testosterone promotes bone density and health by encouraging calcium deposition in the bone. Deca is still used to treat osteoporosis. Plus anabolic steroids as a class can enhance bone density by stimulating bone formation and increasing total body calcium. A little extra never hurts though to be safe. I'd say we're good to go as far as any negatives from the omeprazole. When I bump my GH dose up significantly I'll take 1,000mg Vit C with every meal(6 meals) so that's 5-6k mg's Vit C ED and it helps prevent any bloat or edema from the bump up in GH... Good stuff

Mate there is absolutely NO DOUBT that using steroids increases Bone density and makes it stronger - especially big testosterone. Past several years I have had extensive tooth surgery consisting of having implants put into the jaw bone and also general porcelain crowns where the original tooth structure is still good enough underneath to hold them. We did all the implant screws initially in the upper and lower jaw arches and pal, she had a right job each time drilling the holes into the bone that the titanium screws then screw into LOL

Had to drill 2 different size holes for each one and she said I have the strongest jaw bone she's ever known of anyone - I've been asked multiple times if there is 'anything' I take that could be causing this to happen LMFAO!!! I just act dumb and say no LMAO Its so bad that on one side of the lower arch the bone is so tough and dense that there is no blood circulation in it anymore and when the screws were put in - my jaw ejected them back out about a week later as with there being no blood flow it does not allow the area to heal and accomadate anything. The Gear has also made all my masseter muscle in my cheek and jaw that you eat with grow big and stick out the side of my head which I also get asked how the hell its happened hahaha Its hilarious.

Fuck ya. That Superman Jawline Is Real. Pretty sweet side effect if you ask me. It's always fun when your Dr. says "well... I've never seen this before", lol. That Marvel SuperHero Moment.

I’ve tried just about every over-the-counter remedy for acid reflux—Tums, Pepto-Bismol, milk of magnesia, omeprazole, even daily shots of apple cider vinegar and baking soda. They all provided moderate, short-term relief, but none truly controlled it long term. Omeprazole worked the best, but since it’s typically taken in 14-day courses, the effects would gradually wear off after stopping.
It wasn’t until my doctor prescribed pantoprazole that I finally experienced consistent, long-term relief. Now, I only have a flare-up about once a month, usually after eating something very acidic, and I can manage it with a small amount of baking soda water. This is a huge improvement compared to before, when I had daily heartburn and had to keep a large bottle of antacids by my bed because, without fail, I’d get that burning sensation in my throat every night when I laid down.

Ya Pantaprozol is the META for G.I. issues... After gall bladder removal I took it for 6+ months or more and then eventually I was able to get the same effect from popping an omeprazole every morning.

OscarWildwood's picture

Oh shit - are you only supposed to use omeprazole 14 days? I get it OTC at Walmart and use it long term if I’m on tren (past life, haven’t used in years) or more recently Reta. And it works wonders for me.

I also use Famotidine 20mg for a more fast acting solution. Pop 1 if I eat anything spicy for dinner just to make sure I don’t wake up with issues in the middle of the night also.

Slim0983's picture

If you’re taking it over the counter, it’s recommended to use it for no more than 14 days. Stopping after longer use can lead to acid rebound, where your stomach produces more acid than before. Long-term use should be monitored by a doctor, as reduced stomach acid can interfere with the absorption of certain vitamins and minerals. My PCP has me doing a comprehensive vitamin and mineral panel every three months to make sure I’m not becoming deficient.

OscarWildwood's picture

Well damn, thanks for the info. I feel like an idiot now. I usually come off cold turkey after being on 2-3 months straight and haven’t had any rebound acid effects. Maybe I taper off this go-round just to be safe.

press1's picture

If you do get the rebound stomach acid thats higher than normal, then it usually lasts 2 weeks apparently. I think its just one of those things they list as a possible side effect just in case to cover themselves - though not everyone will get it. Its like a certain Rosacea cream that constricts blood vessels in the face that makes your face appear normal and white again, but when it wears off 6 or so hours later some people get rebound redness where it is even worse lol I never did though but they say it just in case you are the small percentage that does.

press1's picture

I've been wondering this also mate for some time - Would a PPI work if you took it just on training days say 4 hours before or do they need to be taken continually to see any effect. I guess what I am asking is can you take 1 similar to an Antacid but several hours before lifting and then return to normal acid production the next day?

press1's picture

Mate this reminds me of my trenbolone days - almost every night I'd wake up after about 4 hours with a puddle of stomach acid sat in my gullet, almost gagging from it until I either burped it up or sat up LOL Do you still have the same appetite on PPI's because I figured that the stomach acid is part of feeling hungry - if thats gone then you must feel quite different?

OscarWildwood's picture

lol tren would do the exact same to me! That and wake up in a cold puddle of my own sweat.

Honestly I’d take a daily omeprazole and maybe pop a Famotidine a bit before you lift and see if that helps. @Slim0983’s comment above about only 14 days on omeprazole has me wondering though. I was under the impression it’s OK to use long term.

Slim0983's picture

My appetite hasn’t been affected at all. The only issue I’ve noticed is that when I eat large portions, I feel bloated—like the food is just sitting in my stomach and not digesting properly. When I stick to normal portion sizes, I don’t have that problem. That’s been the only negative effect, and for me, the heartburn relief far outweighs it.

Ello ya bloody wanker. .. I got that from @Milfpounder In the USA where I am at it is a nice sunny 80 degree Fahrenheit, I never tried it for this purpose but I have drank alkaline water and really I dont notice any difference.

Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do to relieve heartburn except proton pump inhibitors. I always take an isotonic drink with me to the gym. I mix 500 mg of it with plain water and add magnesium, potassium, a soluble multivitamin, and a couple of spoons of sugar. I try not to take anything that triggers heartburn. Antacids interfere with the absorption of many vitamins and nutrients.

press1's picture

For sure buddy, they aren't healthy for you. They may even limit the amount of protein you ingest from your shake afterwards due to cutting down stomach acid. I never take them normally - just when lifting if needed. I've never used PPI's kinda for the same reason in that they can be particularly bad for the kidneys like Ibuprofen.

Skinnyboy63's picture

Thanks press Im in the same boat bud my acid reflux gets so bad I get sick feeling and nauseous I do prefer the liquid antacids over the tablets

In a promo × 2
press1's picture

Yeah buddy - I split the Rennie up into half segments and take half at a time as and when needed, but once I get to 2 tablets worth then those things in themselves make you feel sickly LOL Full on Dry mouth especially when you don't want to take in more liquid. I bought some Alkaline water and Bicarbonate of Soda so I'm sure they will make a difference.

RobertB80's picture

Always wash my balls with alkaline water before training. Like to keep PH neutral when I can

Nah Bro - the women love some nice Hairy & Cheesy Balls where I live, don't try to destroy what nature gave ya!!!

Guess it’s like the chips over your way then mate. They’ve come accustomed to tha cheesy tang. Come down Saf and you’ll need to wash those bad boys bud

Have you tried a little baking soda in warm water. It usually gets all my reflux gone immediately. It doesn’t seem to help for the future but works in the moment

4oz = 110 millilitres of water (not much)

TeaBody's picture

I also use baking soda w/ water for acid reflux, it works almost immediately. However, I’ve never used it pre-workout, makes sense when you think about it.

press1's picture

Does it keep away the Acid for a while mate?

TeaBody's picture

It works for me for the rest of the day. With that said, I’ve might of used it 2-3 times in a week before but never multiple weeks in a row. I don’t know if there are negative side effects of that much consumption. So in your case of using daily, due to daily oral consumption, more research on the topic is appropriate.

press1's picture

All I am really meaning buddy is can you take it mid workout and then not need to use it again for the rest of the workout, does it last 2 to 3 hours in duration?

I've just actually tried some and it feels like drinking toothpaste LMAO The feeling on your tongue and the burps afterwards feels like you are burping toothpaste!!

Hungryhead420's picture

It doesn’t keep it away with ne but it kills it immediately and turns it into a burp. There’s a link about it in this thread

Baking soda ingested is also literally a performance enhancer used by athletes. Pretty sure they have done studies. Increase endurance

press1's picture

Yeah it keeps away lactic acid build up in the muscle meaning it doesn't lock up so quick - better when doing high reps but I also believe the antacid tabs work to a degree too as I never get lactic acid build up in my quads when doing deads when I have used them during a session.

press1's picture

I never have actually mate - does it work for a while after you drink it say like 20 minutes and does it not dry your mouth out like Antacids do?

Do you do half a teaspoon in a glass or similar?

Hungryhead420's picture

I use a tsp or a little less in a small glass(like a whiskey glass) and enough water to dissolve it. Once dissolved shoot it like a shot and you’ll burp up your reflux soon after. Let me know how it goes and watch blood pressure because it’s super salty
