360 for 8 reps. Wasn't interested in trying a 1RM, too old for that sh**, not worth the risk.

I did 501 @220 raw

Most I've ever pushed was 5 plates per side (495). That was over 2 decades ago in the penitentiary. Nowadays, I don't use a bar for much of anything really. I'm all dumbbells these days. I do push the 150lb dumbbells on the incline for 5 reps, but that's as far as I'll go. I'm 50 yo now. Even that is far too much for my age. I no longer flat bench either. I do a 20 rep warm-up with the 75s and work up to the 125s on a 30 degree angle on the incline.
I concentrate on the stretch more these days. Although, I do end my chest workouts with heavy weighted dips. 20 reps with a 50lb dumbbell, working up to the 125 pounder in increments of 25lbs. Then a ton of reps with the rope press down as a finisher for the triceps. That bar is for the young guys. If I can't control it isolaterally, I got no place touching it. (Also, haven't used a spotter in over a decade) It's all about control with me.

I have happily managed to bench 225 for 30 or more reps very consistently, and I couldnt be any happier.

Right now I am working with 135 for the time being, and maybe continuing some heavier work on decline in the 295 or more range.

285 for a triple. That was almost 10years ago and I was only taking BCAAs and snorting C4 lmao. I’m on my way back up and I’m 100% sure I will hit 315 by next year.

Right on brotha! It has been my goal for 2 plus years to bench 3 plates and this month I put it twice now on different chest days. I know it was a great feeling and accomplishment for me . I hope you share this experience sooner than later. You got this, big dog!!!!!

Only ever gone to 3 plates aside for reps. Haven't touched the Barbell Bench for years I have seen way to many pec tares is scares me nowadays. I'm 34 this month im no spring chicken! Gone are the days of whacking a plate on either side of the bench doing 1 set of 20 as a warm up then loading up the bar haha! Strictly dumbells, plate loaded machines and smiths for me nowadays!

190kg/418 lb but that was good lot of years ago when I was doing much heavier cycles and doing lots of flat bench when I was younger it was one the things I really loved to push my boundaries with. Nowadays I do much more incline work for chest and wouldn’t really go as low as 1rep when I’m testing my strength I go down to maybe 3 rep now.

I'll exclude myself from this exercise poll. Gotta be careful with those shoulders while lifting heavy weight. So far I've been lucky but usually it doesn't play out that way for a lot of guys. Rotator cuff tears.... peck tears, and elbow issues are just a few things that happen. If you're not competing then it isn't worth it but maxing out every now and then shouldn't be an issue if properly warmed up.
Also there's a difference between touch and go and a one second pause at chest. But either way I see impressive numbers being lifted.

thahulk2014's picture

Fuck it I hit it. Couldn’t leave it at 1.

DeeMan's picture

I bet u did hit it and couldn't leave it at 1.....so you got outta there by 3am! Lol

Wow I’m surprised I made it in the middle of the pact. 365 for 1 then a partial bicep tear kept me from ever flat benching again. My max on incline was 325 done 2 years ago.

Most injuries that occur in gyms are caused from flat benching. I’d say heavy squatting is 2nd.

op, remove my selfie pls

Damn, Mr. Holloway sir, you just outed your name too.

Drexyl's picture

It’s the headband that does it for me lol

Sithx66's picture

Idk if you know this but headbands add 10lbs to all lifts. You should definitely try it.

315 x 6 controlled reps. Never go for a 1 rep max especially on bench due to bad shoulders. Risk vs reward just isn't there.

can always use the calculator, i've found to be extremely accurate on bench press

serious strength

DeeMan's picture

.5 pound on each side to get over that 500 pound barrier. 1 pound over is all it takes. Nice lift at 218 bodyweight.

Triggerman83's picture

this really show me the importance of the micro / change plates. lowest I have is 2.5lb. shopping 1lb and sub now. thanks!

In a promo × 1
DeeMan's picture

O yeah for sure. Doesn't sound like much but it all adds up. Used micro plates at 295, 395 and 495 pounds on bench. Took forever to get over that little hump but those plates helped a bit

press1's picture

I have all the micro plates lol Got 0.5kg, 0.25kg and 0.125kg discs. I've never bothered with the smallest ones though, 0.25's are good for when you want to peak up in 0.5kg increases.

Triggerman83's picture

fuckers. are pricey! lol used local dosent seem optional either from quick searches. still browsing now

You can probably buy them from Strength Shop over here and get them shipped to the US, depends on how much you really want them. In normal Olympic sets here the minimum you can increase by is 1.25kg per side (2.5kg overall) so I guess they are definitely worth it if you are strength orientated - I know before I get them trying to jump 2.5kg each time is near on impossible. 0.5 and 1kg is much easier. Makes much more of a difference being able to add on 1kg to a 3 Rep Max than a Single too - because effectively you are lifting that extra Kilo 3 times rather than just the once. Those days of grappling for an extra 0.5kg on a single are long behind me now though Lol Getting Old sucks Ass!!

Toproll's picture

Lol it was only 501 because i did it on kilo plates and 227.5 kilos works out to 501 lbs
