+ 2 Fruit….is it really that bad ? Carbs…are they really that bad pt.2
ad
Alright Eroids fam. I’m slight hijacking @Montreal ‘s post regarding carbohydrates and their effect of fat/muscle gain. My conclusion to everything is moderation or balance while slightly altering the ratios dependent on goals. We all know the importance of eating quality nutrient dense foods not only to stimulate muscle growth but also being conscious of what is beneficial or harmful.
I pose a question to the community. What I’m about to ask isn’t for the body builder but rather the average athlete. Is there any true benefit to eating fruit for muscle building/body building? Obviously I know the immune benefits to eating fruit but quite honestly, I kind of use fruit as a cheat food. I only eat it at night or after lunch as a treat never in the AM but when I’m on a cut, I just cut out fruit all together. I don’t believe fruit has any true benefits for muscle building and should only be used as a snack any never for a cut. Let me know if I’m way off base here.

You’re overthinking it. I eat fruit all of the time. Peanut butter and apples.pine apply cantaloupe. I still have a six pack at 50. I still have muscle at 50
Well, put it this way Bill, fruit might be my favorite food in life. I will never stop eating it because it’s the one thing in life I truly enjoy, I just wanted to hear how all
Of you approach eating it and it seems everyone is in agreement it’s essential and a true Nectar of life.
If I'm on a cut, which I constantly am, I do no carbs at all and let the androgens and lifting pack the muscle on. Keeps my hematocrit in better control too.
That’s good to know. I didn’t realize sugars effect hematocrit levels.
Have you tried those cotton candy grapes? They taste like cotton candy
Yes I’ve tried. They’re a bit too sweet for me because I like vine grapes a little bit sour. Odd I know but if you haven’t tried them try champagne grapes. Lord, they’re delicious.
Fruits contain bioflavonoids and various micro nutrients like apigenin, fisetin & spermidine that have a huge positive impact on organ health, as well as regulate detox from high food intake and manage cellular damage from the lifestyle. High metabolism means high oxidation so if you’re consuming twice the calories, then you’re oxidizing twice as much which is what drives inflammation (not the good kind). Pre & probiotics for gut & brain health and fiber is crucial if you’re going to be consuming twice as many calories as the average dude. Digestive health is the literal foundation of all you’re made of. If you cannot extract nutrients properly or remove waste appropriately, that pretty much a wrap.
Lastly. Fruit is a live food, and as such has inherent vitality.
This is fasted from this morning post cardio. I eat what’s called “IIFYM”…Since the body breaks everything down to three basic things - glucose, fatty acids, and amino acids, I believe that the body doesn’t differentiate if those carbs, fats, or proteins (to be broken down to those 3 basic components) come from whole grain organic or from McDs. I eat everything from candy bars to fast food to lean ground turkey with plain rice (yes I actually crave that sometimes because I’m weird). Only thing I don’t do is drink alcohol, coffee, juice, or soda. Not for “health” reasons just don’t have a taste for any of them. I’m 210 in that picture and I eat ~190-200g protein a day. I don’t look at macros as %s, because based on TDEE and calorie surplus/restriction scenarios those %s can vary drastically. So call it 200g of protein, somewhere between 70-100g fat, rest is carbs. That can be anywhere from 200g (last stretch of getting to ~6% bf) or 1000g carbs (deep in to a bulk).
Micronutrients can be backfilled with vitamin supplements.
TLDR: live your life, exercise regularly (lifting AND cardio), and enjoy the deliciousness of modern processed foods.
Beast! (I’m out of upvotes, catch you later)
Below I linked an article referencing wild blueberries and increased fat loss. It is an article referencing the study. Not the actual study. I remember when the study came out years ago talking about how wild blueberries are high in a compound that increased fat oxidation. I eat over 2 pounds of fruit a day. And I actually eat more on a cut. 500 grams of that is wild blueberries. I have hypoglycemia, so I have always had a sweet tooth. Fruit has never hindered my fat loss. If anything, it helps because I'm not eating the extra 2000cals of candy that I would love to eat haha. The extra fiber also helps with increase the food volume while keeping calories down.

Yo, there are new high quality studies showing that both real maple syrup & real raw honey burn visceral fat despite being pure sugar. We don’t understand nearly as much as we think we do in terms of body function. It is much more complex than 3 macros and overall calorie consumption
i will recap on what iFiT just said. this is a good post because alot of people have the mentality that they are training to be pros but in reality alpt of us arent pros and arent even really like true bodybuilders. alot of us are just normal people that just really like working out and taking care of our bodies and looking nice. and alot of us stress ourselves out and make ourselves suffer cuz they dont want to have any sugar, fat, carbs and sodium in our diets. when in reality, we are goong overboard with trying to keep a strict diet. now dont get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with keeping a strict diet. and theres the exception if you were overweight and now in shape and have to keep a strict diet to stay slim or have health issues, thats perfectly understandable. but for a lot of us, as long as you keep a balenced diet and dont completely live off sugar and salt. you can enjoy yourself with some flavorful food everyday and its not really gonna make any huge difference in how you look(only in your mind it will). and please people, stop worrying about having everything sugar free, those synthetic sugars substitutes are so fucking bad, your killing yourselves over some extra calories. the only people that should be using those are diabetics
Exactly this. Everyone here should be enjoying themselves, not putting yourself through torture. For the record, pineapples and grapes are my favorite lol
Just look up papain and bromelain and that alone answers why we should eat it considering big complex meals we intake
Do you ever go up the Apples and Pears?
Is that some cockney talk or the actual fruit? lol. I eat them too, but I don’t enjoy them as much as the juicier fruit. We try to always have fresh fruit here at home, if something is out of season we’ll get canned. My daughter really likes strawberries and kiwi, I can say I do too. The only one I could pass up, don’t hate it, just don’t love it, are peaches.
LMFAO You are getting wise bro - it's slang for 'stairs'. My parents use to say it to me on a night at bed time, as in 'is it time to go up the apples and pears/stairs? LOL
I fucking LOVE kiwis lol. They need to GMO those mfers to be the size of coconuts. Gets annoying having to peel 6-7 of them to satisfy my kiwi urges.
Lmfao! That’s a genius idea buddy
i tend to think that apples(or alpt of fruits) are not a bad thing to have pre workout(obviously not alone) but its a natural sugar water cuz people also failt to realize using these high stim pre workouts is bad cuz any stim just constricts blood vessels. i dont even really spend the money on pre workouts anymore, i will mostly use a small dose of cialis in the morning and then before the workout i use organic beet root powder.
Grapes are a fucking weakness of mine.
I’ll fill up my mouth with them and just start chewing lol
I believe everyone would benefit from adding pineapple to atleast there post-workout meal to help with digestion
And adding acouple frozen blueberries to the cream of rice meal & whey drip to help with texture
Yeah man, pineapple is a uniquely wonderful little fruit. Bromine and other unique compounds make this super good for your brain, digestive and heart.
I’m not a pro athlete or ever a competitive bodybuilder. I’ve always eaten what I want, when I want and how much I want and I think it’s worked out for me over the years. Unless your livelihood depends on it, it’s one less thing to think and worry about. At least that’s the way I look at it.
Agree on a complex diet. Moderate on most fronts. Fructose from fruit shows on science that prestage would be harmful. But who really gets sub 5% on here and those who do already have the diet fully mapped. Processed sugars and processed foods in general cause all of us issue.
Reality is you might get cut stage ready on one diet while i cannot. Roids are roids and we can both grow on similar cycle. But food imo is that great divide. My old trainer took back to back pro titles and precontest hit over 3lbs of oats a day. Dude was shredded.
Damn, 3lbs is a lot but honestly it’s hard to digest protein and since ive been incorporating more carbs and lower protein into my diet, via oats and good grains, my digestive system has been feeling much better. The next forum topic will be what brand of oats does everyone use lol.
A couple of stage guys here said when getting ready for a show the excess protein slowed their fat burn. Kinda points back to the old school carbs being protein sparing. Diet or science or individual reaction? Combo? Please do open up that box of pandora. Foods are always the hardest.
i didnt even wanna mention this in my comment above but, tons of people are overdosing on protein everyday. protein is hard for the body to break down. and our bodies cant really handle anymore than 1g per 1lb of body weight and only like 20-40g per meal every few hours. theres alot of people that are trying to get 2g per every 1lb of body weight. all your doing is stressing yourbody out even more than you are already by working out and taking steroids. people are in a rush to get big fast and dont realize your body was mever meant to get huge and work as hard as your pushing jt with anabolics. you might look good on the outside but your insides are crying for help. alot will never notice until its too late cuz sometimes your bloodwork stays healthy but your organs and heart are not.
I try to maintain 200g protein and agree as we see the old bodybuilders on dialysis from massive protein intakes. I follow one pro with that exact issue. Protein breaks down into ammonia and if were not properly flushing our system its causing more damage. Stresses to kidneys of course. I was running towards 400g in the past and end of workout reeked of ammonia. Sweaty shirt reeks of househole cleaner. Moved to 300 on cycle and felt/smelled lots better.
people dont understand how much we stress ojr kidneys by eating protein and working out hard and taking handfuls of supplements daily, the kidneys filter everything we put in our bodies(whether toxic or not). and the old saying goes, too much kf anything is bad and that includes protein and vitamins/supps. and alot of us dont drink enough water daily, but i fully understand its annoying to be pissing every 10 mins especially if you are at work but people feel invincible when they take roids. your 100% correct
