+ 2 Anyone wanna tell me what bf% I look like?
ad
So I don't have calipers to measure myself yet but could anyone maybe help me try to guess my body fat percentage?
I'm still really unhappy with my love handles but I feel like losing nearly twenty pounds has helped a lot.

Oh, ok I understand now. That's an expensive ask for sure lol
His name is jockstrap. He likes penis. Go ahead and throw up a pic for the guy/guys?!!
+1
It's not lol that's my hand. I was 100% wearing pants bro lol
I used to stress about body fat and then I realized "weight moves weight" meaning the extra size I had gave me the ability to lift heavier. And I built more muscle mass. If I would have cut 1st my muscle mass building progression would have been slower.
25%+
Don’t put a time table on it. Just eat right, train hard and eventually your body composition will change. Don’t drink alcohol either. Hit volume training, interval sprinting and some core. You should consider alternate high intensity days with days where you train for mass and strength. Good luck
The way I see this and from other posts you have put up mate, is you need to stop obsessing over bodyfat levels and get into the gym and hit some proper weight sessions. Focus on some basic target numbers and do the basic free weight exercises, none of this easy machine crap. You need to be focusing on getting stronger and with that muscle will come & fat will go. Go in and train for 1.5 hours. What bodyfat percentage you are right now isn't even relevant. Go in and hit barbell flat/incline bench as heavy as you can for 6 to 8 reps. dumbbell bench, Barbell military presses and dumbbell presses, raises, Deadlifts, barbell rows, dumbbell rows. For example, what are you current lifts in Flat bench, Barbell rows, Deadlifts and Squats? For example, if I came and met you at the gym could you show me a 225 x 10rep bench or 315 x 8 Deadlift? Those are the basic things you need to be aiming for as a natty before worrying about cutting.
Y’all must be much stronger across the pond lol…a 225x10 bench or 315x8 squat or deadlift would put you in the top 1% of commercial gym goers over here in the states. Unless you’re at a powerlifting specific gym or something. But standard big box gyms nope no way you’re seeing those numbers very often
Nahh..not soo fast my friend. Not the case at my gym lol....but yea it's a power lifting-bodybuilding gym.
Speciality gym or a generic big box gym? 225x10 bench puts you in the 300s for a max. That is generally a rare feat in commercial gyms
Yep I agree about generic gyms no doubt. My gym is a set up of old school powerlifting and bodybuilding so alot different. I mean you really won't see a 500-600 bench press in those commercial gyms and rightfully so. Hell you won't even see a 400 pound bench there. Like you said it's more like 250- 300 pounds for most of those guys which isn't bad because they may not be into heavy lifting. And yea 300 maybe pushing upper limit
315 is the big norm in my gym. 3 plates on each side. Haven’t seen anyone go higher, but I do go at 5am, so most people are lifting solo and not about asking for a spot. I randomly spot people I see struggling, and then walk away so they know I’m not in this shit for three sets, Bro, I have a job to get to, LOL
Yea that's probably the big norm at commercial gyms I would think. Lol I remember when I visited a basic commercial gym, some guy benched 325 and you would of thought he hit 600 pounds lol. The dude was talking trash to everyone.
LMAO I'm happy to help out on that set but don't ask me again!!
Sounds like the great debate !!!!!
Powerlifter vs bodybuilder vs broccoli head
debate? Think so?.. Ya know I don't even notice those broccoli heads. But they everywhere. They taken over everywhere
No way buddy - I can't believe that! I do mean lb's not kg's lol
From my experiences over in US gyms, Americans are much stronger than the British
Not only are they not hitting those numbers, the typical commercial gym goer is gonna be trampolining the weight off their sternum to hit like 225x5 at most. No eccentric control at all. And doing some bs quarter squat shitty ROM squats. Don’t even see deadlifts that often. At least not in the LA Fitness, Lifetime Fitness, or Planet Fitness.
I agree with the typical 225 x5 reference at commercial gyms. And Planet Fitness is the absolute last place you'll see someone deadlifting. I remember when I went there for a visit, I accidentally dropped the 70 pound dumbbells and immediately looked at that damn big ass wall alarm. 70 pounds are their heaviest dbs. Fortunately that alarm didn't go off but I did get a few looks. I think that alarm is called the lunk meter or something like that. Just a gym I'm not use to. Maybe when older but not now lol.
No way, Bro! They can keep that piece of shit gym. That gym is designed for people that join and never show up. That’s how they make their money.
It's sad. But if your trying to do anything in planet fitness they make you feel weird, awkward, or try to run you off. That place was a joke. I had to grind out 6 months recently there. I feel like alot of it has to do with this equality shit going on in the world where men have really stopped being masculine and embraced feminism more. This life is a competition. I'm trying to come into your area and eat your food and fuck your women and cast out the youngins and replenish with my bloodline.
Hell yeah! Viking mentality! That’s what makes real men.
Read my comment above. That gym is a trip. I can't do it!!
Isn’t it ironic planet fitness preaches a “judgement free zone” while simultaneously having a “lunk alarm” to shame those grunting lifting heavy weights? Gotta love it.
I built a ~650 sq ft gym in my basement well before Covid back when you could get gym equipment relatively cheap. Maybe 40 grand all in and I have my own little mini golds gym. But I don’t skip lifts for holidays or anything. So the investment was worth it for me. No waiting for shit just go downstairs and grind away. And now my 4yo daughter comes down with me and cranks out pull ups on some gymnastics rings I set up for her. She will occasionally look at me after I finish a hard set and hit me with the double front bicep and grunt haha
I built a very nice gym in my basement a week into Covid before people realized this shit was going to last awhile. I picked up a lot of great equipment on Facebook marketplace. Worked it until the masks were gone. I wasn’t about to workout with a mask on cause my old ass would probably pass out, LOL. Nice to know my basement gym is there for days I can make it to the gym for some reason or other
Sounds cool mate - tell us some of the things you have in there!
I started my lifting journey in the Olympic lifting realm. When I built my gym I was still heavily into that, so I have the necessities to do all the variations of pulls/lifts from all different heights, jerks, etc. Then lat pull machine, seated row, leg extension, leg curl, back extension, belt squat, seated calf, GHD, various types of bars, loadable dumbbells, treadmill, bike, rowing machine, rack with pull up bar, setup to do seal rows. I probably missed something.
Oh and you’ll love this…it’s all in kgs. Eleiko bars. 300kgs worth of bumper plates.
Sounds awesome mate! You have a belt squat machine? I've wanted a seal row bench for a long time, came close to buying one at a decent price too and I hesitated for too long and someone else bought it
Then again I would of needed the cambered bar too lol
Yea the squat max Md. Direct loading underneath you instead of the shear stress of the load pulling you forward like the lever arm types. I use it for high volume/low axial fatigue leg work. I’ll do all my barbell stuff then hop on there until I’m walking out of the gym like a baby deer. Supposed to have a better carry over to barbell squats too due to the loading.
LMAO With your knees caving in - at least you can go and sit on the sofa then and not have to negotiate some gym stairs!
Do you have a Reverse Hyper?
No but that’s mostly because I wouldn’t see myself using one much. Have a speciality bench for doing Nordic hamstring curls though. Amazing exercise for knee stability that I got into doing after my ACL rehab.
Hey have you ever seen anyone selling these new style commercial gym benches where the rack pivots towards yourself so that you are pressing it straight out of the rack directly over your chest rather than reaching backwards and unlocking your shoulders so to speak? I had a look about a while back but found nothing. Not sure if they have a specific name like 'Self lift off bench'
Every powerlifting specific commercial gym I’ve gone to when traveling for work has had those. Then the arms pivot back once you unrack the weight, right? I love benching on those. Can make you pucker real hard when it pivots out the first time and you’re not expecting it because you’ve never seen a bench like it before.
Like this?
https://atlantisstrength.com/gym-equipment/p337
Yep that's exactly the thing bud!! Notice how they don't give a price lol, hopefully in time they will develop one that has safety rails too either side.
Never used one before but keep seeing them in videos, especially Larry's lol I wonder what ever happened to that guy that had that massive pec tear who was inclining with him in Dubai a few years back?
More like 135x10
KonstantViktory21.5%
I'd need full body pics from front and back to fully assess but yeah I'd say no less than 20%. Pretty normal.
I would say about 25-27%. You should get one of these scales
https://www.amazon.com/Etekcity-Bathroom-Weighing-Bluetooth-Electronic/d...
Are any of these actually remotely accurate? I've heard people recommend some but at the same time i keep hearing about how bio impedance is a really inaccurate way to measure your bf%.
Never found a good one yet. Thought It would be a nice way to track my progress during a prep. Those things are so fucked up when measuring BF% that it is not even funny. Off by 10% BF or more the whole time. At the end when I was at 4% BF I used it for shits and giggles and was 17% BF. The leaner I got the more BF it said I had.
Caliper is the only cheap reliable easy method I have found.
Oh man, It says I'm always between 14% and 17% body fat, and so hard to get under that even when I m clearly looking better. I mean I can gain 2% body fat in two days, and lost it again in one day of very light eating. Here I am thinking the thing is accurate. SMH
I get that so long as you're using the same piece of equipment it can be a useful tool. Which is all i use mine for other than keeping track of my weight.
I was gonna say 25% aswell
20-25% range.
Keep hitting those weights hard. You can actually build muscle while losing fat when in those upper ranges.
Oh I am brother lol. Making sure that I lift the same weight and same amount of reps as when I wasn't cutting. I'm mostly just focusing on losing weight and minimal muscle loss. But when I flex everything looks bigger due to less fat being there lol.
I'm going to lose this weight and never be careless with my diet ever again. It's crazy how fat I got without realizing it. I just thought my only problem was the love handles but I have lost most of my stomach so far
Id say you've cut enough. Now build it. Hit it fucking hard. Load the iron. If you really push yourself you will snap into shape man. 33y/o go fucking heavy. Heavy fucking weight. Day in and day out. Fuck rest days unless your literally hurt. Your body will respond to it I promise you
I won't just gain fat and convert everything to estrogen? I am ready mentally for it I'm just wanting to make sure to get the most out of it and not waste.
If I get enough people saying this I'll finish out the last few lbs till I'm 200 and just go for it. I was thinking 190 would be better though
There's a bunch of goofy ass opinions running around this forum of guys that will tell you wacky ass shit because it's easy and not that hard of fucking work. To build your base it's going to take everything and more. The real grind starts now. Watch who you listen to here. IMO it's only done one way. Eat your food and lift that heavy ass - make you dizzy and lightheaded weight!
I'm sure there is brother lol. Most of my advice I've been following comes from makwa and I feel he definitely knows what he's talking about
Yeah he's a good one. This guy @DeeMan definitely knows too and others. I'm pulling for you man. Let's do it together bro! I'm trying just like you are.. I really want this shit too
