+ 5 GENETICS are an important piece to the puzzle.
To all the newbies and guys that ignore genetics, I'll make this quick as I've seen various discussions on gear dosages today. I've always said that Genetics will always be a key factor, not high dosages. Now does hard work and dedication help? Yes.
This is a pic of Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman with with mother who was over 70 years old in pic. May she rest in peace. She is my focus not Ronnie.
His mother never competed yet had a daughter with this same type of muscular physique, not to even mention Ronnie. This picture doesn't do the mom justice as you would have to have seen her up close in person like I was fortunate to see her up close. I've never seen an older woman look like that seriously and I've said that a few times on here. Hope this gets some folks thinking.
Genetics Genetics....
This post is not to discourage anyone at all. I encourage everyone to be the best physically that you can be. What you're blessed with someone else may not have and vice versa. Train well and smart my friends.

Former Mr.Olympia Dorian Yates said,
"I can recognize people that have potential just by looking at them, the structures and lengths of the muscle bellies and the proportions and everything tied together. You can have a guy with something very impressive but some genetic weaknesses on his physique, which if there after a few years of training generally that weakness is always going to be there."
Fuck genetics, it's all about ab and calf implants and synthol lolol
This is true lol
1000% lol
So to sum up this thread. Most of us got screwed in the physique department by our parents
Thanks mom & dad
Don't be so negative lolol! Mom and Dad aren't stopping you from busting your ass in the gym!!! Now get off that damn couch, put down those cup cakes and move some IRON!
Hey Still remember cup cakes & wine has awlays been my lunch
Hello @DeeMan ,
Of course genetic are a important role but ...
Some people have bad genetic (like me) and with lot determination we can still get results.
Everyone are different, you should never compare yourself to someone else but challenge yourself.
I think nowday with some peptides / polypeptides the genetic can change (i think for exemple with the famous somatomedin-c).
It's not because we have bad genetics doesn't mean we should give up, we will have more work but we will still obtain results ;-)
Have a blessed Friday my friend !
Sincerely.

Good point @lundgren It's been awhile my man. Hope you're getting better with your situation that you mentioned awhile back.
So this post can be a bit confusing to some which I can understand. This post is not to rub great genetics in the face of others at all, not the intention. Anyone, regardless of genetics should work their asses off in the gym to achieve a better physique. I've seen guys that claimed to have had bad genetics totally transform physically in front of my eyes. We all are blessed with something and we just have to figure out what that something is. What I see alot of times is some guys tend to think that high reckless gear dosages are a replacement for hard work, diet and they try to obtain the same features of some professional bodybuilder who may have great genetics by copying their diet, workout routine and gear dosages. What some fail to understand is we all are different and what your strength is may be my weakness and vice versa. In other words, it goes both ways. Whatever strength that we may have we simply have to take pride in it and maximize it. The focus should always be on that and nothing more. But yes I agree with you...GENETICS are very important! Always have been and always will be. At the end of the day we have to know our bodies, I've personally mastered that myself. It makes things alot easier!
You know what @DeeMan ?
I think there is a fairly significant difference in mentality, nowday it's like
"Wait i see what bodypro take, what cycle and if i use the same protocol i'm become for sure like him"
Some people buy / use aas / peptides like candy.
Some people with strict budget spend all money in product, have a poor diet, and if the results are not here, nop i take more dosage.
I see around me the side effect like the mental problems that the products can cause which destroy couples' family lives and friendly relationships (it can even destroy the professional situation).
We live in a time where we want to put the icing on the cake without having built the cake.
It's the new area " Tren hard Test yourself Eat clen & Anavar give up "
There is perhaps also a story of education ;-)
Good point
Lol @ " Tren hard Test yourself Eat clen & Anavar give up"....hey they mistake that for Train hard, test yourself, eat clean and never give up
Yes sir!! There are couple of he's competitors that say in he's first Olympia appearances he was natty ffs!!
I've heard that before and he was way smaller. I don't know. Do you believe that's true? Just asking.
I appreciate all the opinions, however I honestly wasn't even thinking of race when I made this post. My exact thoughts were the ones above at very top, but much appreciated.
Not sure, maybe he did but less than others... Or maybe test alone? but flex and levrone spoke about that, he was insanely smaller though in the beginning!
Yep I agree. Now that I think about it I remember him saying that he asked one of those guys what was the secret and they started laughing at him so I think there is some truth to that. He probably was using a lower dose of gear. Looked and sounds like that.
Genetics definitely make a big difference in size. Steroids can definitely help you grow, but some people’s bodies just process food and exercise a lot better than others. Add gear, and they can become monstrous in size, where someone else running the same exact training/diet/gear protocol may not even compare. Almost as if human beings have different breeds, but no one has ever really categorized humans in that manner.
For example, take my cats for instance. They eat exactly the same amount of food every day. Same amount of exercise, yet my Maine Coon is a beast, and my other cat just stays small and fit.
+1 very well said bro. Swole cat!
Everything said below is great conversation and I think we can all agree that genetics play a huge role in making it to the Olympia stage BUT that doesn’t replace hard work and dedication. I’m sure there’s plenty of guys who had insane genetics that never even knew it because they never got off the couch. And there probably guys that are top level(probably not on the Olympia stage) that didn’t have great genetics but worked their ass off. I think way too many guys blame genetics for their shit physiques and say everyone else looks better because they take more drugs when really they just work harder. DONT USE GENETICS AS AN EXCUSE. If you got great genetics, then great! And if you don’t, then just work harder!!
Right on and IF you have great genetics you still gotta work hard regardless or else you'll limit yourself. Like I mentioned it's all a puzzle. Piece by piece. Everyone should work hard regardless of genetics
That's a great summary of it all. To your point though, Flex Wheeler was recognized by 99% of 90"s bodybuilders as having the best genetics ever. Ok cool but guess how many Mr. Olympias did he win...ZERO! Genetics only got him so far. He was simply out worked by other top guys according to everyone
@JakeKO come get some of this! You're an outspoken guy. I'd like to hear your opinion whether you agree or not.
That ole cat of yours definitely has some good genetics. Damn lion I meant!
Sorry, Bro, I’ve been a little consumed in my work this week. Actually still catching up right now. Another big presentation tomorrow that has to be ready for a big meeting tomorrow. I’ll be on a little later tonight.
Mob meeting with the Godfather huh? He needs your expiration list that's all lol?
I get that completely. I’ve naturally got broad shoulders, I’m 6’2” and was thin growing up. My (half) brother always said “damn if you work out you’ll fill in really well”. I started working out at 15-16 and my legs grew so fast I had stretch marks. I was in great shape in high school and by the time I went to college I was turning into a monster, or as many called me a “beast”. I used juice responsibly and even did a research paper on it. I had friends who were taking a lot more than I did but they just couldn’t fill out the same way. My muscles were all very evenly balanced (except maybe my back, just a little more exercising blew it up so I didn’t train it as much as the rest) and I looked like a bodybuilder. With friends trying twice as hard with twice as much gear there was no doubt that it blessed genetically! I’m in my 40’s now and have taken a few years off but I’m planning on getting back in the saddle again. One thing I noticed is that I definitely don’t have the same energy, drive, libido etc that I did while I was on a cycle. Prob is I did them for so long my body now needs the extra test to feel my “normal”
Yeah those that deny aren't being realistic. Genetics..
But PLEASE for the ones of us born with shit genetics keep trying and never give up healthy is just as cool as jacked. But healthy & jacked would be the ultimate goal
No One should ever give up..that would be missing the point of this whole post my friend wanted. High, reckless dosages of gear cannot replace great genetics, that's the point. But Never give up, never give up!.
And great genetics is simply a natural blessing. And like you said earlier..we use whatever we have to the best of our ability. That's all I ask of folks.
@Drexyl This is the question I have to ask you. I have an answer. So a co-worker and myself were chatting about this same subject yesterday.
So look..Arnold Schwarzenegger and Franco Columbo were life long friends and training partners. They ate the same meals, worked out together doing the exact same workout, took the same anabolics at the same amounts...if all were the same then why according to most and Mr. Olympia standards did Arnold look better physically and why was Franco stronger physically? Why?
I would say Arnold was more marketable. Tall handsome Eastern European fellow as opposed to a meatball. Not taking ANYTHING away from Franco, guy would get shredded and was strong as an ox, but could he pull off the lead character in Conan? The terminator? Even True Lies? And from what I’ve read Franco had no problem stepping on people’s toes and letting everyone know how he felt. Physique wise? Aside from being Rusty height, there’s plenty of pics of him where his condition blows Arnold away.
Lol yeah Franco had an Alexander complex. He was a successful lil guy though, he became a Chiropractor and movie producer in Italy. But yeah Franco looked good but he didn't look better than Arnold when both were in top condition. Now all you said above about Arnold is correct but the main difference is and was...GENETICS!
Damn it..I meant a Napoleon Complex. Both were reportedly short though.
My eyes saw Alexander, my brain registered Napoleon. Lol, little mean Frenchman.
Little mean man sounds familiar!
Father and son, genetics.
My favorite ole school bodybuilder of all time...."The Myth"
For all the doubters looking at this post, this TOTALLY SHUTS YOU DOWN!
I mean, in the words of Joe Biden, “C’mon man.” This guy got ripped off.
Check that video below out on YouTube Drexyl. It's basically a summary of this topic.
Just watched it, good lord he was a beast. Some of the clips of him next to other competitors were just ridiculous. Imagine what he’d do with modern day knowledge?
Two words...THE MYTH!
Clearly he was way ahead of his time and those guys talking about him in that video clip made that very clear. When we talk about legends he's in that mix. Drexyl there is absolutely NOTHING like the ole school and I'll always stand on that! Today's bodybuilding is a circus
I would of loved to be in that Ole school era. Unbelievable!
Yeah with these pics you pretty much shutdown anyone who downplays genetics as being important. Lol at this point they would be in denial.
So about "The Myth" he had 2 things going against him...racism in 60,70s and favoritism. Joe Weider loved his boy Arnold. But most bodybuilding historians would say this guy had the best genetics of all time.
Watch youtube video called The Most Genetically Gifted Bodybuilder- Mountains of Muscles. After you watch, tell me if you don't get the chills lol.
I know this is kinda touchy subject but I’ve seen tons of young black kids/ teenagers that are shredded, not big but just like 6% bf and don’t work out at all and just eat whatever. They don’t over eat and they aren’t couch potatoes but are regular kids. You see it all the time and they are always black kids. And just naturally athletic too. If they where to workout and train serious they’d have crazy physiques. I think those are the guys that grow into Ronnie’s and Phil heaths. It’s clearly genetics. I’ve seen a couple white kids like that too but it seems to be way more common in black kids. I’m super white lol Irish freckles and everything and I’m the opposite of these guys. It’s like they’re made of meat and I’m made of potato lol. That’s the only way I ca think to describe it. We could have the same amount of muscle and bf but they’d look way more shredded. It’s like they have no fat between the skin and muscle and all my fat is right under the skin and I have zero visible veins too. So I think the genetics of your appearance is huge also not just your ability to build muscle but also the muscle appearance
craiglangleyWill if you think about African American history it makes perfect since. It's horrible but bc they were seen as a profitable product, made to do work, they were selectively breed. Slave owners would take the biggest, strongest male and female slaves and put them together to "breed". This happened over the course of decades. They essentially were trying to build a superior working race.
No other race has ever had this done. The weaklings simply were not allowed to reproduce.
With whites any weak little, man has always been allowed to pass on those genetics.
+1 Well I appetite your honesty. Race wasn't even thought of by me when I decided to post this. However you make a valid point. Lol I simply wanted to point out how reckless dosages of gear doesn't triumph natural genetics. Well said though. Not sure if other societies specifically bred other races for strength and working ability as much as Americans did. I know Hitler wanted the ultimate soldier. And I agree in our country eye color, royalty etc wasn't the purpose for selectively breeding unlike other countries or societies
Lots of other societies have selectively bred their men. Greeks, feudal Japan, the Mongols, the Germans & many more. I know it’s not the overall point of this thread, but eugenics and selective breeding isn’t relegated to only American slaves.
Thumbs up, it’s a huge point in this thread.
Man this morning when I saw your avatar of Darth Knight I spat my coffee out while laughing. Something about that pic!
