+ 3 What does a 10/10 REALLY mean???

ad

When you personally review and rate a source a 10/10, what does that mean to you?

I personally think there is a huge problem with the rating system on here. When you see 90+% of the reviews on here are 10/10, it doesn't really make sense. Like, what does it mean? Does that just mean that the source is legit and the gear works as it's supposed to? Or does it mean it's literally the best gear they've taken in their entire life....absolute perfection? We are all just handing out 10s like it's no big deal and it takes away from what a 10 is supposed to mean, at least the way I see it.

I was always under the impression when you are giving something a 1-10 rating based on quality, it should operate on a bell curve, right? A 5 should be average, and a 9 or 10 should represent the top 1%. I mean, that's how we rate women. Not everyone is a 10. The VAST majority are between a 4 and 6. Shouldn't that be how we rate the quality of the gear? Instead, I feel like on this site a 9 or 10 simply represents gear that works, and anything that's either under dosed or bunk gets a 1 or 2. It completely takes away from what a 1-10 rating system is intended to accomplish. It's VERY hard to compare sources when the ratings are all between 9-10. Let's face it, most gear is average. So how are we supposed to distinguish average gear (which almost always gets a 10 anyways) from great gear (What a 9-10 should truly represent) when virtually ALL gear has a 9.2+?

Why do we do it? Everyone does it. I've done it, many of the higher ups on here have given out mostly 10s, along with everyone else. I feel like it could be for a couple reasons. First off, most would get offended if they were to hear that they are a 5/10 because society is all about this be nice to everyone and inflate their ratings so you don't offend them type of mentality. We seem to think a 5 is horrible when based on the way the 1-10 scale was designed, it is in fact average and nothing to complain about. We don't want to potentially "offend" a source by giving them a 5 rating (which should be average on a 1-10 scale) because it is seen as bad. We want to stay on a source's good side so to speak. I also feel that there is an underlying fear that if you go around giving a bunch of 4-7 ratings on all your reviews even if they were honest, then you might get banned. I'm not saying that would happen, but I bet it's a thought that some people might have. There is also the problem of many sources on here offering discounts or free gear for "honest reviews." Doesn't that just incentivize us to write all these 10/10 reviews? I mean, if someone were to write an honest, poor review of a source, they probably don't want the free gear or discount anyways so there is nothing to lose from the source's perspective. It's just more positive ratings to inflate their score.

How do fix it? I don't know if there is a really great answer for this, since I know the perfect score ratings will continue. Though I feel like what makes more sense is something along the lines of a 1-5 rating system where each actually represents something specific, such as:

1 - Completely fake gear or scammed entirely
2 - Gear works but is likely under dosed or poorly made with lots of sides. Very low quality gear
3 - Gear works like it's supposed to. Good gains. Your average gear
4 - High quality. Works very well. Smooth, minimal sides, very potent stuff.
5 - Perfect or near perfect gear. The best gear you've taken in your life. These should be rare.

So why does this happen? Should it be changed? What does a 10 really mean? I'm very curious to hear your thoughts and suggestions. I also understand I might get some hate for this because I have done this myself, but I will approach things differently from now on.

I like the new source rating system that asks questions more specific than just selecting 1 - 10. It add a bit of nuance. Also, I think that when people are entered in promotional runs they may feel obligated or even indebted to the source for floating them a couple hundred bucks of gear so they feel they should repay the sources 'kindness' with the highest of reviews (while staying in a positive relationship with the source for future promos). It does make it challenging when the reviews all read and rate so similarly

UncleYoked's picture

technically sources can flag for review when someone jumps on their promo, I always say I'm going to do it but still never have. I'm a poor participant.

I just posted a review, noticed that you guys implemented that idea discussed bellow and I find that briliant! Only problem I have, is that my "stars" are not hidden for the source, so its doesn't actually change anything as they can still text people, why they only rated them 3 stars instead of five possible... This part should be hidden in my opinion, let them just read the comments, its pretty fair for everyone.

UncleYoked's picture

It should be fairly self explanatory why they were rated that way by the star system. didn't give extras 4 stars, didn't arrive in time 2 stars, etc. I don't think stars should be hidden from us, it lets us know where we need to improve. If a source messages asking, you can tell them or ignore, if a source messages with coercion or anger, that's something that should be brought to the mods/admins. The time of douchebag threatening sources should be over by now.

Gym and Bikes_bro's picture

ye, ye, u're right uncle, it should be like that...

BFG's picture

stars" are not hidden for the source,

A source could always log out and see how you rated, nothing to gain by hiding your rating.

It's funny... if you look at an employee survey, with an NPS scale... you would find fuck all people voting 10s. There is a warped psychology behind it. But here you do see 10s left and right! Couldda been made in a bath tub but it's a 10!

For the most part gear is either good or bad. There isn't much so called so-so gear anymore. So it either sits on one end of the scale or the other. Properly dosed, pins smooth and no pip isn't a 5 out of 10 for me. It is a ten. You can't get any better than properly dosed without any pip. Pip is going to knock it down the scale, and if I have to push it so hard my thumb goes numb to get out of the plunger is going to knock it down the scale. Shipping and customer service can be the real big variables. That is usually what separates the sources for me. Lot of them have excellent quality oils and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference from one or the other if they weren't labeled, so alot of it for me really boils down to the customer service. Do your research and there really is no reason not to be buying from a 10/10 source. I do my research ahead of time so I expect to be buying from 10/10 source and the reviews I make usually reflect that because I didn't go into blindly. Always go through the SI of the source also as part of your review process. That is often times a sign of the current state of the source. Source may be a 10/10 for shipping and service in reviews but the SI will show if that is currently the case if people are complaining about TA or communication.

What I often see is sources throwing in freebies and people are so giddy about that so they just rate everything 10's regardless. Alot of first time buyers are just so happy they actually got something even if it took them two weeks domestic they just rate all 10's without even using the product. You have to read in-between the lines in the reviews and you can see pretty quickly if a source is acutally a great source compared to a so-so source.

press1's picture

Very true about the first time buyers part, the excitement purely over getting steroids delivered to your front door and not getting scammed is a huge thing. You can take cheap crappy gear in the early days and still think its great purely because the results it gives are much better compared to what you have been use to as a natural.

i love when you compare women to gear but i've never heard a vial whine.

Owes a Review × 1
Gym and Bikes_bro's picture

Yes this is a true problem.... So MODs, this one is for you, how about to hide the reviewers completely for sources? I mean let them know that we've reviewed their stuff, approach, range, services and others, but hide our markings...? This is a bit of a moral obligation for most of eRoiders - people receive free stuff and feels obligued to give 10s because it was free and they are worried that the sources will contact them to change their assesment or they won't give them discounts or freebies again, right? Reviews can remain visible for other people and can be linked to a specific order ID, so we know its real, but account name can be hidden so everyone can vote and review accroding to his consciousness and conscience without being worried about source reaction...

Another scenario, I regularly buy a lot of stuff and pay for them obviously, but I still give 10s if everything is "fine (5)" because I fell anything under it will handicap my good source against others, who simply earn their reputation and high score giving freeebies to people....

Hide usernames for sources but show for everyone else?
Anyone can view the website as a visitor without an account.
Hide usernames for everyone?
Would you trust a review where the reviewer is anonymous - has no reputation?

Maybe an option to opt-out from showing your username for everyone, would that "unscare" reviewers? thoughts?

JakeKO's picture

He “Lifts things up, and puts them DOwn!” LOL

UncleYoked's picture

I don't see the benefit to that, I guess it keeps the pocket reviews down but if you've worked a deal with a customer or source for a review, then you can just email all that info to them. There's always going to be a quid pro quo on this site, rules or not.

A more accurate review format would be to take most of the human part out of it and make it factual.

Did you order arrive on time
A. Yes, it arrived sooner than expected (5pt)
B. It arrived within the time window (4pts)
C. It arrived late (2pts)
D. It didn't arrive (-10pt no further questions necessary for gear)

Did your gear provide the expected results
A. Results were as expected
B. Results were less than expected
C. I did not have results
D. The gear was tested and was overdosed
E. The gear was tested and was fake

Just an example, there's room for improvement but with a little simple math this would be a system that couldn't go fail. You get X amount of questions for each category of the review page and there's a hidden rating average when it's done and at the end, there's an area where you write your comments.

It would be a very clear and concise way to have reviews I think

Also, I would add a picture attachment in to the review
Gear pics
Progress pics

With the review the user gains 1x karma, with the gear pic 1x karma, progress pic 1x karma.

JakeKO's picture

Definitely a great idea with the questions, but should also have an “Please explain” section that can also gain or lose karma for. Just questions would be more of a survey than a review. Also, Users should be visible,, so they can be held accountable for their actions. Definitely not fair to the sources if anyone could just write bullshit about them and not be held accountable. I saw that happening last week with a good source, and luckily the mods caught them and deleted their account

Makwa's picture

Would need to expand upon the expected results or it just turns into the gear was FYRE review. Have to many of those already. How many pounds did you gain, how much fat did you lose, how much did your strength increase, bloodwork results etc. Detail the results.

Toproll's picture

I like this idea with the questions and answers. Does it work as expected or not...with a list of answers to choose from. As a buyer, most of the concern i have when looking for a new source is whether or not the gear works and is exactly as labeled. If the gear is not that great or comes with more sides than it should, the comments will reflect that. Yes there are differences in quality between sources but for most of us, the difference in quality of the gear is VERY hard to tell, especially since there are so many factors besides gear that contribute to gains as well. I've probably tried 10-12 different sources over the years and there has been only one instance where i was like "woah this is the beat gear ive ever tried." I think we just wanna know if it works and if the source is reliable

In a promo × 1
BFG's picture

Not a bad idea at all, this might work actually - if instead of stars we'd have these types of questions.
You're already able to attach pics with reviews, but they dont actually give any extra karma or review weight.

UncleYoked's picture

Rarely do you get anything without incentives. People want rewards and cookies with milk, I'll slide in to them DMs

vengar's picture

Maybe in a rare instance where a reputable member contacts a mod before reviewing and validates the issue. Too much potential for abuse otherwise.

Makwa's picture

Anonymous reviews -- no thanks.

Greg's picture

Not anonymous, just how you ranked would be hidden.
You'd need to infer from what was written in the review if it was good or bad.
Only the cumulative ranking for the source would be known, not that you gave them 4 stars, or that I gave them 6 or BFG gave them 2

Gym and Bikes_bro's picture

I just posted a review, noticed that you guys implemented that idea, I find that briliant! Only problem I have, is that my "stars" are not hidden for the source, so its doesn't actually change anything as they can still text people, why they only rated them 3 stars instead of five possible... Yes, that's exactly what I thought, I just probably failed to express myself fully... Thanks Greg.

Not a bad idea

There are papers written on the subject, people voting either 1 or 10 is a problem on all rating platforms in every field.

We had a 5 star system when rating was first introduced. I changed it to 10 star thinking people would vote more reasonably if they had more options. I was wrong, turns out it doesn't matter if you have 5 or 10 stars to choose from. People either rate good or bad.
Today's average vote across all sources in the last 6 months is 9.74/10 which would imply impeccable service, unbeatable prices and unmatched quality for 97.4% of reviewers - absolutely batshit insane if you think about it.
Star rating systems are all fucked because people would rather receive a 10% off on their next order than vote realistically.
