+ 4 Red Rice Yeast

ad

So i have used the search bar and cant find anything current on this topic. Lots of good stuff but pre 2013. My total Cholesterol is 137 HDL 30 Triglycerides 88 LDL 138. Not bad enough for doctor to prescribe meds but enough for her to recommend RRY and/or fish oil. Reading past posts it appears that anything worth it in the RRY was going to be removed by the FDA. Anyone have any current experience with Red Rice Yeast and is it strong enough to lower your cholesterol? If so, how effective has it been? Whats your current dosing? Im thinking of using the combo of fish oil and the RRY. No way in hell im going to tell my doctor that its just the AAS causing my readings (been over this topic here and im not coming clean with her for many reasons). I need to lower it for health reasons and to get her off my back. I have changed my diet in the past year and she is happy with better readings because of it.

I took red yeast rice and cholest-off which is plant phytosterols. My level was 196 on my last cycle of test/deca/var, but I can’t say how much it helped. This cycle I’m taking a product that has both. 1200 mg red yeast rice and 850 mg plant phytosterols with 1 mg micro algae. They recommend that twice a day. I always pound high concentration DHA EPA fish oil and my triglycerides level stays really good. One way to up the DHA further is to use calamari oil, most fish oils don’t have the best ratio. I’m not sure if I can post brand names in the open forum.

What dose do you take and has it effectively brought down your levels to normal? I want to make a decision and start on something almost immediately so i want to hear if these suggestions have personally worked on "you". If i google there are 100s of things but i take you guy's experience over say an amazon ad.

Red rice yeast USED to be great, now almost 90% of it you buy in the store has had the amount of good ingredients reduced so you would have to take almost 1500mg a day. If you do a search about it you will see Big pharma got involved with the manufacturing and started to reduce the levels. This was a few years ago. I watched stores that used to stock it stop doing it.

What do you think about the potential link to rhabdomyolysis? That’s about the only negative I could find. I used it before and got good results but the rhabdo threat was always in the back of my mind... i think there was only one documented case of it happening though.

Not sure about that, I stopped taking this shit after I started having bad shits directly after the whole cut back of the actual ingredients.

Ive heard from a few people who get bad muscle pains while on it due to what your talking about but they take COQ10 to stop it.

Coq10 is supposed to stop statin induced weakening of the muscle wall? That’s news to me. I thought coq10 was basically for mitochondrial health in the heart.

"Although statins are well tolerated by most people, they can cause muscle and joint aches. Statins have been found to reduce the amount of naturally occurring coenzyme Q10 in the body.
Because coenzyme Q10 plays a role in muscle cell energy production, some researchers have proposed that taking a coenzyme Q10 supplement might reduce the risk of muscle-related side effects.
Scientific studies to determine the effectiveness of coenzyme Q10 in reducing statin-related muscle pain have had mixed results." -MAYO CLINIC
Ive been reading customer reviews where RRY is sold and maybe 1 out of 5 complain of excruciating muscle pain and there is no confusing with workout soreness. This pain is the worse but take coenzyme and no more symtoms.

Well damn, I actually already take 300 mgs of ubiquinol as part of my preworkout and for health so that’s really good to know. Much appreciated bro

It sounds kind of weird saying but if you come across a bunch of reviews that claim muscle pain from a specific brand that may be the one to choose. Since drug manufacturers are limiting the amount of the active ingredient monocolin (not sure I’m spelling that right) because it is the statin they sell, claims of muscle pain probably show that brand has a high concentration of the statin in there. From what I’ve read the extracts aren’t regulated well and a standard statin dose is 10mg with supplements found to have little to no active ingredient to more than a starting statin dose. That’s why I’d go with one that gives people muscle pain because shitty quality control probably led to more of the active ingredient opposed to getting something bunk.

Thinking the same thing and have som COQ10 on hand. I may never get the symptoms but sounds like they are excruciating. Its worth a try rather than drowning in fish oil. Because lets face it, as long as im doing AAS my doctor is going to keep pointing out my cholesterol.

I forget who said it but someone pointed out a study that found an apple a day has comparable results to a statin. I haven’t gotten a lipid panel while trying it but it may be worth a shot. Another tool in the toolbox

Yeah thats exactly what ive been reading about the FDA taking out trace amounts of Monacolin K. Is my doctor up to date? Or gets a kickback from Walmart?

Pcushion uses this. Maybe he will chime in.

Haha im sure she know lol. But she never asked. Could be my guilt but after every annual visit "Is there any thing else you have going on?". Im thinking she is asking because she wants me say "yes im buying steroids illegally on line and using self prescribed doses" but it may be a standard question. They must know for a fact what AAS does to your cholesterol levels but she doesnt press me. I do the oatmeal for breakfast and stopped snacking on the boiled eggs so it think that helped from last years readings.

I’ve actually had good results eating one cup of blueberries a quarter cup of walnuts and one Avacado a day.
I lowered mine better in this regiment than I did on fish oil.
Never tried the rry.

I have never tried red rice yeast but my levels are excellent and i follow the same regiment as Sam. Cup of blueberries in the morning and an avocado split up during the day. I’m not big on the walnut prefer a handful of almonds though. IMHO your diet is more effective at lowering levels then supplements. Just my .02. I have seen RRY at stores however it just does not seem worth the money

I guess the red rice yeast is similar to statin meds or at least what i was reading it isnt anymore. So is it snake oil?. But sounds like your little method would help as im not in the danger zone just high enough for the doctor to bill me for more visits lol. AND I LOVE BLUEBERRIES. No homo
